For DB:

Chapter 1: cover and 7 pages full color, 23 partial color
1st page of chapter 2; partial color
Chapter 3: cover and 1 page full color, 13 partial
Chapter 4: cover and 3 page full color, 11 partial
Cover and first 3 pages of chapter 5
Chapter 19: 4 full color, 11 partial (cover in black and white)
Chapter 25: 9 pages and cover in partial color
Chapter 33: 8 pages and cover in partial color

For DBZ:
Chapter 196 (DBZ chapter 2): cover and 2 pages full color, 12 partial
Chapter 205 (DBZ 11): cover and all 14 pages in full color
Chapter 228 (DBZ 34): cover and 3 pages full color, 11 partial

"Partial color" refers to the limited color pallet that most of the color pages use. For instance, in full color pages Piccolo is green like we all know him, but in the partial color pages he's shown as gray. Most Jump manga do the same thing. I read the explanation for why this is some time in the past, but kind of forgot; something about ink budgets or some such thing. It sounds a little lame, but some of my favorite color artwork from DragonBall is in the partially colored pages, since the color substitutions and brighter hues can look really cool at times (red-eyed, white haired SSJ Goku vs. black and gray Freeza being a great example). Though sometimes not (yellow-skinned, red-haired Kaioshin anyone?).

The color chapters were presented in color when they first ran in Jump, where put into gray scale for the tankoubon release, but were restored to color for the kanzenban release. For VIZBIG DB and DBZ volumes 1, only DB chapters 1, 19 and the cover to 33 are in color. For DBZ chapters 196/2 and 205/11 are in color.

Once again, thank you Herms! I was wondering, in your opinion what colored page(s) looks the best?

I think the issue is "what kind of nude" ... as seen here:

Edits other then Bulma's shower scene:

They took out the nips!
Edit: And Puff Puff! (Thanks Bkev)

She has one thing to tell him? ... alright.

Thats pretty much as far as the edits go. Bulma's boobs and those things up there. Surprisingly everything else is there. Bulma's ass, Goku's penis, the word "boobs" and any mention of panties, Pat Pat... its all there. It's not just the edits that kill this release though, some of the color pages that are now printed in black and white look like a bad photo copy. This is probley the worst of it here:

I would say the only good thing about this book is this page right here:

Its a full color page (wich is rare) with an awesome gag. I think Iam done here. :D

Wow. Am I remembering incorrectly, or are at least a few of the non-color title pages retained in color in the titles gallery?

Though I don't think I'll be collecting the rest of these, I think I may just pick DB Vol 1 up for the hell of it. I'd like to own it in some form or another, and I'm still liking the way it looks.

DBZ 1 I just can't bring myself to, though. Omitting the color for Goku and Vegeta's fight just killed that one for me.

Tanooki, not only are the nips gone there, Oolong originally mentions getting "puff-puffs". Although, I guess this new dialog ain't so bad. Still bugs me they're deciding to take so much out though :/

I guess disappearing line syndrom doesn't only apply to the season sets anymore Image
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Damn, I checked Oolong's puff-puff fantasy to see if it was edited, but completely missed the fact that they edited out the woman's nipples and removed the actual reference to "puff-puffs". And I didn't even think about checking to see if they still had Bulma giving the finger to Pilaf. Shows how thorough I am.

The Japanese symbol in the VIZBIG logo is the kanji for "large/great" (used to write things like daimao and oozaru). So that's appropriate.

The picture of Kame-sennin on the "Scargo" bike-thingy is from chapter 24's title page. Viz just added the pink.

Bkev... You have just opened a can of worms to wich there is no closing....

So of course since you said Oolongs original line was edited I go and check, and your right. Thats all fine and good but then...

DUN DUN DUN!

Image

In my original un-edited version that I bought years ago, Oolongs line is un-edited but yet the nipples are gone! So... if anyone has (what they thought was the un-edited version) I would like you to check this out for yourself just to see what we come up with.

Still no word on DBZ Vol. 1 arriving at the local Borders yet. :? Looks like they're waiting for that to come in before shipping my requested books out.

It does seem that some stores nearby have it in stock though.

Tanooki, I just checked my "cat" SJ VIZ volume 1, and it retains that edit.

I don't have any of the manga, so I think its not too bad.

Also, before I get anymore, I just might wait on the boxsets to see if they are any different (I would hope they'd be all in color). But I guess we'll have to wait for more information.

I think you mean the "Collector's Edition" volumes in October. From the looks of it, the box sets are just all the older, black-and-white volumes jammed into one package.

Since Tanooki Kuribo brought up the Dr. Slump reference page from chapter 19, I thought I'd give a more literal translation of how that scene goes in the original, since Viz changed it guite a bit. This was probably because at the time most American readers wouldn't be at all familiar with Dr. Slump or know what Shounen Jump was. I'm not trying to bash them or anything, since I think what they came up with is still funny and in keeping with the spirit of the original, but I though I'd make an interesting comparision.

1st panel
Pilaf: H~mm. Doesn't look like they're keeping it in any visible place.

2nd panel
Mai: Perhaps it's in the space between that man's thighs.

3rd panel
Pilaf:..............

4th panel
Pilaf: Shouldn't you know that I hate indecent jokes?

Mai: I'm very sorry.

5th panel
Pilaf:
This is what I'm talking about!! [lt. “this is what I'm saying you shouldn't do!!”]

Mai: Ahh!!

6th panel
Pilaf: Don't you understand that the author wants at least this work to be high-class?! [implying that the author's other works weren't high-class, obviously referring to Dr. Slump]

Mai: I...I didn't mean to...

7th panel
Pilaf: Right now, Shounen Jump has an amazingly large number of copies in print, so it seems a lot of people are reading... So do your best to avoid any deplorable conduct...alright?

Mai: Y-yes!!

Shuu: Ki~in [“ki~in” is the sound Arale makes when she runs, so this is another Dr. Slump reference. Shuu is even holding out his arms like Arale does.]

Didn't know about the nipples. Doesn't matter too much to me though. Still think it's funny as they censor Bulma flipping Pilaf off in a dumb way, but it's still ok for Naruto, Yusuke, and Kuwabara to do the cross-arm equivalent. Maybe because only adults do that and kids aren't as familiar with it.

That is hilarious, you could totally be an image editor for Viz, as long as you don't edit anything out!
