About the kids being influenced by all this. I think we wouldn't have to worry about this if parents would just teach their kids the difference between a comic/cartoon and real life.

(Please forgive me if this sounds boastful, I really don't mean it to be)
My parents raised me and taught me the difference between right and wrong, and that what I saw on T.V. or read in books was not real life. And I have read many manga that have a lot of violence/other things in them(Gantz, anyone?) and I have never taken anything from comics/T.V. more than what they are - just fictious material and nothing else.

Unfortunately, this is easier said than done for most people. :?

I dunno. I was a pretty messed up kid in a bad situation back in the day. I saw nipples on TV at least a few times. I still turned out rather normal in terms of sexuality. Sure, I don't have an ultra-conservative view of it, but if you're looking for just missionary in the dark with no movement or sound with the same person for the next 30 years before becoming disgusted with yourself and your significant other and never becoming intimate ever again, I'm not gonna try and tell you to do otherwise.

Why does VIZ color Bulma's eyes (and hair) red whenever their is an intense panel?

Is it not that way in the Kanzenban?

I'm not sure, if it is than it totally makes sense. I wasn't saying it was bad or wrong, I was just asking if there was any reason behind it.

It is indeed like that in the kanzenban as well.

I see. The way you worded it, I thought you meant that VIZ colored it differently than in the Japanese releases.

Ok I got both today, I got to say, these are way better than tankoubon IMO. They are bigger and thicker. They are annoying to read while lying down. Your arms will get tired, but reading it on your lap is no problem. It has all the chapter title pages and color. Not everything, but it's better than nothing. Also the cover look really nice and the shape of the book.

When u open the book, U even see a image of the dragon that looks like the dragon on the Daizenshuu's. And the edits, you won't even notice while reading/enjoying the manga.

Well that's all for now, ask me everything you want.

VIZ didn't do any of the coloring. These color chapters appear as they did back in Weekly Shonen Jump as far back as 1984.

From the Kanzenban:

I don't think VIZ edits violence too much/at all.

But that's not what I wanted to ask.

I was at my local "Books-a-million" yesterday, and decided to pick up the VIZBIG's for a quick peek. I noticed something. Why would VIZ edit out Bulma's bare chest, yet keep young Goku's little piece of manhood? I'm guessing its probably because Goku isn't drawn too realisticaly.
I always thought that was rather sexist. I think they could have just easily erased Bulma's nipples instead of censoring the breasts altogether.

Nipple-less breasts? O.o How exactly did they censor them?

How 'bout the Z one, how much is that edited?

There's nothing really to censor in the early volumes of Z.

They covered Bulma's boobs completely with soap.

And when I mean sexist I just think if they are censoring Bulma's boobs, Goku should be neutered like Gohan is in DBZ.

Some things are like that. Remember the Toonami broadcast had no issues of showing little Goku and Krillin's naked butts but had issues with showing Ran Fan in lingerie. Hell, remember YYH had no problems showing a Yusuke-possessed girl kick a guy in the family jewels three times, but wouldn't show Yusuke punching a "female" demon in the chest.

The only overt censorship I've seen in the DBZ manga is changing Mr. Satan's name and calling his Japanese name a name that he was formerly referred to as, a scene where 17 shot an old man in the face was changed into him being killed by a punch or something, and in certain situations guns are turned into "blasters" ala GI Joe or Batman Beyond.

The only other really big changes were Vegeto becoming Vegerot and Majin becoming D'jinn, but those aren't the result of censorship. Those are the result of VIZ trying to be clever.

Other than that, Dragonball Z is virtually unchanged aside from being translated to English.

How is the transition from SJ volumes to Viz Big with Z? I skipped on DB because, besides Mr. Popo's lips, I got their first edition run of their SJ versions, which were uncensored: Nudity and all. How does Z hold up by comparison?

As far as I can tell, the SJ volumes of DBZ and the VIZBIG volume of DBZ that's out right now is practically unchanged.

I don't think there's anything wrong with calling Boo a Djinn. It's akin to calling Piccolo "The Great Demon King Piccolo" instead of "Piccolo Daimaô."

It's not really the same thing, if they called him "Genie" Boo or whatever, you'd have a point, but Viz translating a Japanese name into a language other than English is just them being smart asses.
