Thank you for sharing a bit of the story with me. I can see how it was an exciting moment.

Shenglong has also granted a very important wish for me, giving me the chance to know a special DB friend since 2020.
every single phone call, I would always make sure to say "if you ever think about getting Dragon Ball, PLEASE give it to me. I'll make sure it gets the treatment it deserves." I think I said it about four times total.
Ah, being constant, sometimes it is all it takes!

Greetings from Mexico.

I got it yesterday. Came in sealed, which was nice and surprising. I managed to read an handful of chapters and I'm liking it so far.

@jrdemr I'm curious about how you handled "Son kun". Were there any other alternatives on the table or was "Son son" the consensus? I don't know how Devir handles it in other manga. It's one of those weird instances in a translation to portuguese, because it's not like "chan" where it can be somewhat easily adapted to Portuguese with a diminutive.

I decided on it by myself. No one at Devir seemed to take issue with it, so it went through.

There's no real big story behind the decision. I just liked it, so I went with it  We sometimes use these kinds of cute nicknames for people we like in Portugal, like "Lulu" for "Luísa" or "Dudu" for "Eduardo", so, since we couldn't keep "Son-kun", "Son-Son" sounded the more "Portuguese" way to go about it to me. I actually originally had something to the effect of " 'Son-kun' in the original Japanese" as a TL, just to acknowledge the original term, but I later thought it was kind of unnecessary, so I removed it.

It's apparently selling out! People are having trouble snagging a copy for themselves and stores that got a shipment of 25 copies have been selling all of them out in a matter of hours!

Congrats! That's good to know.

By the way, do you know if these releases are going to be monthly?

I'm not privy to that sort of information, but apparently, a representative for Devir said on Instagram that it's going to be quarterly, i.e., every three months.

Considering these are 3-in-1 volumes, that equates to one volume per month. Not too bad...

That's unfortunate. I thought we would have the entire series in a little over a year, but that's going to take almost 4 years...

Oh well, beggars can't be choosers.

It is with unbridled joy that I hereby announce that I have been selected as the official Portuguese translator for manga publishing house Devir's new project: the one, the only DRAGON BALL :D :D :D

Translated from the original Japanese, a first for any Portuguese edition, and with the utmost attention to even the smallest details, this will be a release that I can be really proud of!
I just had an idea, why don't you contact piece of magic entertainment to make portugese subs for the battle of gods screening coming in portugal on the first of march?

I got my volume as a gift from my wife.
I read it with/to her to practice my Portuguese.
She watched the show as a kid and she saw super hero with me at the cinema.
She's seen me play some of xenoverse and jump force and casually watched daima with me.
She's gradually gonna have seen the whole series haha

Looking forward to volume 2

Hows the initial buzz and sales?

I'm currently reading through it, starting the 22nd Budokai. Also, Zénpai was interviewed on the Kanzenshuu podcast a few months ago and talked at length about the translation

This is the edition for the people that want the faithful translation we deserved from the start.

If anyone's looking for pérolas, then they better stick to our terrible dub. My mission statement is to be as faithful to the original as possible while still making the text easily readable in natural Portuguese.
