Geekdom101 made a video clarifying that the franchise was already in stark decline and fans were feeling fatigued with Dragon Ball ever since the Boo Saga, so that's not all true.
When I was a kid, I remember most people I knew got pretty turned off of the franchise by the Buu arc. Like, they were still fans, but it wasn't as popular as all the other ones. They straight up never watched GT though. It simply wasn't good. The dub is hands down the worst thing I have ever watched come out from this franchise.
I never understood why people lost interest in the Buu arc. At the time it was the perfect conclusion to DBZ and the franchise as a whole. I know some are disappointed Gohan didn't get to be the main hero by the end, but it was the first time we ever saw Goku/Vegeta working together side by side in canon and the Spirit Bomb was an emotional sendoff to the entire franchise at the time. Majin Buu and all his forms was also a fantastic final villain, and all the characters reached their natural endgame in terms of development.
I can see how people lost interest since the Buu saga had a pattern of debuting a new form or fighter, only for Buu to survive by sometimes magical means, only to challenge the next fighter, who was stronger and
also lose. And sure, we've seen fighters fall before Cell and Frieza and even Nappa and Vegeta, but those losses mostly felt like a power difference instead of a cop out. With Buu we've seen him suddenly regenerate by having miniature Buu's assemble and shouting so hard he caused a dimensional rift. Stuff that came out of nowhere. It felt like the viewer was getting cheated.
We got Majin Vegeta sacrificing himself, the future generation (Goten and Trunks) fusing to create a new super strong warrior called Gotenks, Gohan finally becoming the strongest he has always been after a long period of buildup and even Goku and Vegeta fusing together to become the strongest warrior in history. They all failed in beating Buu. It got tiresome.
By itself, all those ideas were great, but failing in succession made them less than they could have been. Any of those ideas would have been a great ending. Instead, we get stuff like Gohan's power being brought out for many episodes, him beating Buu for 10 minutes, only for Gohan to be basically put out of commission in the next episode.
