Heck, Goku values people who ARE shitty people. ...Sometimes just because he wants a rematch, but it's what results in a lot of those shitty people becoming allies. Tien, Piccolo, Vegeta, Androids 17 and 18, Majiin Buu, Beerus, Hit, and even Frieza (temporarily, at least) all were originally enemies who became friends either because of Goku or someone directly connected to him. Some, like Vegeta, were basically pure evil. Goku's simple, childlike nature is just that disarming, and he has a way of rubbing off on people.
If we're being honest, though, 17 & 18 didn't become good people because of Goku. They were originally on their own side. The series makes them change why they do what they were gonna do because of 16 & Cell. 16, even though he was programmed to kill Goku, turned into a more righteous person before Cell killed him & that had an effect on 18. Cell, we all know what happened to affect them. 17, I think roaming the Earth for a decade, then becoming a family man changed his outlook on life similar to 18 doing the same, but much earlier. Hit, he's an assassin, not a villain. Granted, Goku DID have an effect on him, but he wasn't a bad guy before they met. Freeza's still a villain. He's just focused on killing Goku, unless I missed something.

I apologize if this comes across as blunt, but as one of the few openly trans women who post regularly in this community, I want to make something clear to anyone who isn't familiar with trans women and trans people in general: Being trans is
not to be associated with being a 'lifestyle'. 'Lifestyle' has a very negative connotation in regards to queerness in general, going as far back as religious organizations and politicians popularizing the phrase 'gay/homosexual lifestyle'. Especially now as media, legislative and transphobic activists seek to frame being trans as both something 'bad' and a 'choice', we need to make it clear that people are not trans as some sort of thing they 'do' because they're bored or some sort of mental illness. Being trans isn't a choice or 'lifestyle' as much as being any other type of human being is.
On the question of how Goku would have been written had Toriyama included overtly trans characters in Dragon Ball: Toriyama has written transphobic depictions of trans women before. I'm under no illusion that Toriyama would not probably have written Goku to do something transphobic for what Toriyama mistakenly would think is a good gag, unless he was told not to by someone with any degree of sensitivity training.
"Lifestyle" literally means the way in which you choose to live your life, I don't know what to tell you. You're trans, so that is part of your way of life, even though it's obviously not a choice. And I'm not going to take that away from you.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/lifestyle
People life a certain lifestyle no matter of they're trans, cis, gay, straight, etc. I know you're prone to taking shit WAY too seriously & personally (I've seen you in several threads many times do this, so don't deny this), but I didn't mean this in a disparaging way & I think you can tell that. This is just how English works & what the word means. Yes, being trans isn't a choice, that's just how the trans community's brains work, same with being gay, same with being cis, same with being straight. If it
were a choice, no one would be trans & just go on living their lives as they were born because who actually WANTS to go through that shit & make life harder on themselves when life is already hard enough without that struggle? It's just not logical. To also say this, I'm sorry for how that came off because I didn't mean it that way. So, please, let's not escalate this & just continue the conversation at hand so the mods don't have to come in here & say something. I respect the trans community & I want them to have all the rights they should be afforded & to live however they want that makes them happy. That's as much as needs to be said here.
The DB manga is very much a product of its time & culture. Hence why there's not a ton of women in the ensemble cast (hell, it literally took the first Bardock special to introduce female Saiyans, then Super to expand upon that & then some, then also Minus to introduce Goku's
mom, who people were wondering about for years beforehand), people of color are few & far between outside of the tournaments, & other cultural attitudes that haven't exactly aged well. But, we also need to take into account that trans people weren't in the larger societal conversation of politics & society. They've been around, obviously, but the most many people knew about them before the 2010s was that they...existed & under different terms I won't say here because I think most of us here know them & they're now considered slurs. It's definitely for the best that he didn't do it in DB. The original DB anime already had a really bad depiction of a gay guy with turning General Blue, a clear flamboyant gay man, into a pedophile & a sexual predator in the filler stuff they added to the stuff they adapted from the manga. It's just something, I think, is best left alone. This series isn't One Piece (which has some of its own problems with this topic, but is still better at it than DB would've been).

Either that or another character like Bluma or Kuririn would have a strong reaction to a trans character and then be upset at Goku for not getting what the big deal is, with the "joke" being Goku's too dumb to understand why being trans is weird or off-putting or whatever.
NGL, that's kind of how I'd expect TFS to handle that topic if they were to do an "OG DB Abridged." They've done similar jokes in DBZA.
