[RUMOR] The show will be 19 episodes long.
If the rumors is true, then a lot of things from the original will get cut for better or worse. I hope it is for better.

I doubt they can remaster the rest (Goku Black and the Tournament of Power) in one single other series.
But if that was the case somehow, I guess it would be named Dragon Ball Super: Zeno since he is the common denominator between the two arcs, with his existence just having been revealed at the end of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus.

Otherwise, if they wouldn't name it after a specific character (we have an upcoming series named Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrols after all), then it could be something like "The Gods' Plans" or something, since both arcs involve being caught in deities plans (whether it's for a serious project or just a massive lethal game) whether mortals like it or not.

Honestly, I'll probably tune into this week to week, unlike Daima. I just wish we'd officially do an English broadcast dub. I have NO idea how we're not already there with this franchise. The fact that we still have lagtime for dubs of the shows int his franchise when Toei let them dub 2 of the films in less time is just fucking asinine.
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

You know that's a very good point and makes a lot of sense.
It's Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, because one might say he's the top dog(..well top CAT), it's his world and we all just live in it, until Zeno shows up and establishes that's no longer the case, this is Zeno's world and even Beerus cowers before him.

God's plan? Drake with the opening and ending themes? :lolno:

I wonder if it'll same-day stream on Disney+/Hulu like they did with Daima.

One week away from the new version, it's time to re-watch the "prototype" version again, which can easily be done with three episodes (meaning about an hour) a day.

And so I started. Got me realizing / remembering a few things:

- Kaio's Japanese voice actor really couldn't handle it anymore at this point, he was talking softly when his character was screaming, probably unable to scream anymore. If the new version reuses recorded lines except for new scenes, then I think they should still use the newest voice actor for Kaio instead of the tired original voice for this specific character. If the new version fully everything, then it's settled anyway.

- I had forgotten or perhaps never noticed how a lot of scenes in the earlier episodes were meant to teach newcomers about who those characters are, their various relationships to each other and their abilities. The tractor scene alone establishes "this main hero can transform to get stronger, can teleport and can fly", another scene will show "this is what the kids can do, they can fly too, they can even fight", a piece of dialogue will specify "well, Videl is my daughter after all" or Trunks is talking about his mom and a scene shows him with Bulma, and then Goten is shown to be the little brother of Gohan who lives with Videl, etc.

I wonder if one of the ways to save time and reduce the episodes count will be to just skip all the daily life scenes and dialogues that were there in those early episodes to explain who's who and what they can do, either doing the introductory "disguised exposition" bits in a new, more compact way for potential newcomers or ditching it altogether by considering "whoever watches this knows who everybody is and what they can do anyway, or it's up to them to catch up with the various other media, so let's go straight to business."

We'll see soon enough now.
Remember guys, one week left to re-watch the original "unrefined" version to refresh your memory for a better sense of what the definitive version chose to change.

It's going to be such a shame if they don't improve on the slice-of-life scenes. Well, not that the fights are going to be great, either.

Oh well, this should be an interesting watch. I hope the Opening animation is really cool! I wonder who's going to direct it?

^ Well, when they reduce 14 episodes to 6 episodes to tell the whole story and want to insist on an epic multi-episode final fight, they'll probably find that the slice-of-life content is the most disposable thing in the lot.

I'm sure the final battle will be 2 to 3 episodes, meaning they have 3-4 episodes to give every info and event that are strictly necessary for the final fight to happen, in turn meaning that the "let's see the characters live their daily lives" scenes will probably be the priority to throw out the window!

But we'll see, it's part of the thrill to discover what they chose to keep, fix or simply eliminate to have the "perfect edition" this time, with more than half of the content being deemed unnecessary and deleted accordingly.
Perhaps they will choose to focus on more slice-of-life stuff than we'd think and keep the final battle for one final episode, but I must say that would surprise me given that the trailers show quite a bit of final fight scenes and "Super Saiyan God VS Beerus" situations still existing in some form.

I would guess that a lot of "Bulma's birthday party slowly starting and everyone arriving one by one" will be removed and it will be a bit more like the movie: everyone is already there and the party has already started off camera.

But we'll see, I don't mind being right or wrong in this case, I'm going to enjoy this perfected edition no matter what, it's going to be a real treat!

Very soon Dragon Ball Super Remake will start, let see what changes it will have. Visually the remakes looks better than the original, as for the writing only time will tell.

I will pretend DBS original doesn't exist and not compare it to the remake.

Wouldn't expect too much since the objective is still to heavily rely on the existing base and do the extra work only when it is deemed absolutely necessary. They're not going to rewrite half of the story, they might just modify 5-10% of the writing through extra scenes that they deemed missing in the storytelling or re-imagined scenes sometimes. But I guess 90% of the dialogues will stay exactly the same, which is too much for any huge story modification. If I'm not mistaken, even the trailers are only made of existing lines with not a single line we haven't heard before and not a single line rephrased.

If you consider that the padding is part of the writing, then we know for sure that it's going to be much more compact and much faster, so there's that.

But it's mostly a technical + pace update, with sometimes a few extras thrown in with a few brand new scenes and perhaps only occasionnaly short brand-new events (Goku briefly seen as a Super Saiyan God in his Whis gi, which might be there only for a few seconds as he tries to transform into Super Saiyan Blue).

Writing can be a bit refined in some ways with the eliminated material, the new scenes (which were deemed necessary if they went to the trouble of creating them), but absolutely not reinvent and revolutionize the whole writing on the contrary of the visuals that get a constant overhaul (whether it's just colors/effects, redrawing bad parts of some shots, completely redrawing the shot entirely or inventing brand new shots from scratch).
It's likely gonna be little incidental touch-ups here and there for the writing (especially with brand new scenes bringing new content or some unnecessary moments/lines being deleted), but we'll see!

Trying to be closer to Toriyama's notes is precisely what makes this project such a problem, though. We're getting away from letting the actual animation staff and the freelance writers do their own thing and thus defeating the purpose of actually creating an animated project in the first place. I can only hope that this isn't the case, but given how we don't know if any episodes are being directed by Toei Animation's established talent, I'm concerned that we're going to get a stiff product, rather than a work where the staff can at least slip in their own ideas.

Unfortunately, I think you already know the answer which is “yeah don’t expect anything crazy”

The thing is, just touching up some of the visuals and doing some tightening of the script is probably enough for most people. As bad as Super got, there were still plenty of people who enjoyed it just fine. And I expect to same for this project.

Yeah, I hope it'll be good, but I am very much quite prepared for it to be bad.

I'm expecting something mediocre at worst and something good (compared to the original) at best.

I like to think that Toei isn't so incompetent as to repeat the disaster of 2015, but with these companies, you never know.

I know the animation—save for a few occasional moments—isn't going to be good: that was an inevitability from the moment that they decided to reuse animation from the 2015 series as well as have Yamamuro Tadayoshi supervise the new cuts of animation. My primary concern is with the writing bending over backwards to remove any ideas that the original production staff might have contributed so that Dragon Ball Super: Beerus can be tauted as being super-duper-ultra-mega Toriyama-approved. Trying to rub out the quirks of the people who actually make art is never a good idea.

I'm also not overly looking forward to Super Kai DBS Beerus knowing just how much will have to be struck from the original.

While there were plenty of things I disliked about Super, there were also parts that I loved about it, and I know I have my memories of when it was new and didn't know what was going to happen next and the fun of the community I was a part of at the time... but this whole project so many years after the party's been over feels like a big stop-gap that only exists because they're unable to work on whatever they actually want to do with DB since Toriyama's passed away.

My feelings about this edit are going to be based on what gets kept and what gets cut, but that's obvious and I'm probably not alone on that, even if what each person wants kept and dropped are unique to them.

Toei did a terrible job with Digimon Adventure Reboot. Rushing the digimon to get their ultimate and mega form, only for them not to use it at all. They would rather lose, get captured and let their allies die than digivolve to Ultimate and Mega level at times. The way Joe got captured by Olegmon was just plain pathetic. The enemy was on a boat, while Joe was on a flying ship. The flying ship was flying over the water and didn't think to go to the snow, which the enemy ship can't travel. The enemy managed to land their attack on the flying ship.

Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna the story was about how when the kids grows up, their Digimon partner dies. Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning it was about a wish that made it possible for human and digimon to be partner, only to cancel the wish so no one has digimon anymore and the digimon are gone from the human world.

Sure there are talented people at Toei and it isn't their fault if they don't have control. I am aware we can't blame everyone at Toei.
However it does feel like they thought they didn't need to put the effort, due to them thinking nostalgia was enough for people to accept it.
