Kintoun

Post by Kroni_Hunter » Thu Jul 31, 2008 4:52 am

So why does Goku use Kintoun when he gets wished back to fight Nappa and Vegeta? Is Kintoun still faster than Goku? It seems a little unlikely, because Piccolo keeps up with it before their fight with Raditz. (It may not have been going at its maximum speed though) Remember that Goku was fast enough to cross snake way in two days and he still used the stupid cloud afterwards. It could have been to conserve energy, but if that was the case why not save the senzu bean til he flies there?
When do the Z fighters really get faster than Kintoun? (It disappears after the Saiyan Saga until Gohan becomes Saiyaman, at which time Gohan easily outflies it even in his base form)

He used Kintoun to save energy.

Yeah, since his battle power wasn't high enough to have him fly around and search for Raditz or any other enemy at the time, and fight them, without being drained. It makes sense.

Goku flies from the hospital to Capsule Corp. on Kinto-Un at the beginning of the Namek arc (chapter 250-251). Though, once they get to Namek, Kinto-Un is of course not used. But when everyone finally returns to Earth, they're all strong enough that Kinto-Un isn't really needed anymore. Though, the realistic answer is that Toriayama was too lazy and didn't want to draw Kinto-Un anymore.

I think it's partly because they tend to fly in groups, and only Goku and Gohan can ride the Nimbus.

Well by then, everyone has trained a lot. Tenshinhan, Yamcha, and Chaozu all trained with Kaio on his planet. Piccolo did as well, but then merged with Nail on Namek. Krillin and Gohan both got a power-up from Saichourou on Namek. Goku, well he went Super Saiya-jin, so I think he has enough energy to spare by then. Overall, all of the main characters have had massive power-ups by this point in the series. It is true that really only Goku and Gohan can ride on Kinto-Un, but they have no real reason to use it at this point, unless they feel lazy and don't want to fly.

Well that is debatable.

Lunch rides Kintoun in Volume 3, chapter 26 (in her 'good' form, of course.) Also, there was a mermaid girl Goku brought to Kamesennin just before that.

I could have sworn Arale and the Gacchans did as well, and didn't Upa? I can't check right now...

They all did. And Uub does in the kanzenban ending. And then there's the "Girl like unto the death of Buddha" that Goku brings to Kame House before the mermaid.

I was just re-reading through Kanzentai's awesome Bonus Coverage of Daizenshuu 4 and saw the section on the Kinto-Un. It has the Torybot symbol next to it so I don't know if it is a quote from Toryama or just one of the team member, but either way it is supposed to be taken as canon.
Daizenhuu 4 wrote:Since Kinto-Un had a model, I didn't particularly innovate it. If you look at it from an overhead angle, it's convenient to be able to go to your destination all at once. Ultimately, Goku and the others became able to fly, so it stopped appearing.
I don't know if that means that once they knew how to fly they were automatically faster than it or if it means that once they became faster than it they stopped using it.

In the vehicle section, everything with the Tori-bot symbol is Toriyama's own comments. And I'm glad you liked the bonus coverage!

(looking back, I guess I could have come up with a more natural English phrasing than "if you look at it from an overhead angle"...)

Well that is what I meant when I said debatable. It depends on which personality she has at the time.

Ah, right. I did wonder what you meant by that; I guess it should have been obvious :)

Goku was an idiot then. I mean it's like us knowing our friends are in danger 5 miles away.

We could either get in this Ferrari, and speed it over, possibly using more fuel but getting their much quicker. Or get in out Honda Civic and take our time.

I mean his friends were DYING. He sensed chi rapidly decreasing to zero and he still stood in on that damn cloud.

Well, you could take that as evidence that he wasn't faster than Kinto-un yet.

It would've drained him again probably and then he would've been wrecked before the fight even began.

I don't think he would've been that drained. Goku just had a senzu, and should be fully energized. Even Piccolo alludes to being able to keep with the Kintoun with a power level of 322 at that point.

I'm sure a Goku with a power of 5000 would be many times quicker then the Kintoun, since he's about 20x more powerful then Piccolo at that point. But I agree that it would make more sense for Goku to conserve his energy for the actual battle.
