Nice use of "Yumcha" for Yamcha (I don't know if you spelled it that way on accident, but that's hilarious), bad use of "Tién" for Tenshinhan. We don't ever see how Yamcha gets his scar, he just shows up at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai with them. So I think we're to assume he got them while training during that time skip. Tenshinhan gets his scar across his chest from Tao Pai Pai during their match at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai.
I Spelt it wrong By accident, but still fits well for comedic value (Its like close to 1 am here so my brain isnt functioning fully!)Hujio wrote:Nice use of "Yumcha" for Yamcha (I don't know if you spelled it that way on accident, but that's hilarious), bad use of "Tién" for Tenshinhan. Thank you for your reply! At least I know when Tién got his scars now thanks to you! I appreciate your Response!=)

Well it's Kind of simple. Basicaly Some people watch the show in Japanese and others In English. Some prefer dubs, some perfer subs. But In the end, no matter what way you enjoy Dragonball, it's your own personal choice to call the characters/places/abilitys by the Japanese or the English. I Don't like it when people get all Elitest and Protest "You're saying it wrong! That's not how it's said in Japanese, you know nothing blah blah blah, I'm so much more leet then you because I use Japanese Spelling, i'm a better fan!". I'm not saying it wrong, I'm saying it according to the version of Dragonball I enjoyed, which in my case was english. If people want to use the Japanese Names, thats alright, but to try and auto fix the way I spell it, I find a little Obnoxious. It's really about Preference I guess, and I don't like the idea of others forcing their own preference upon me. =)
Sorry if that was kind of long winded =D, but you get my point ^_^

Well, Viz's English translation of the manga calls him "Tenshinhan", so it's not like "Tien" is the default English/American spelling.
Anyway, if you want to get around the name filter without resorting to accent marks (how do you put those on, anyway?), just insert closed html tags into the name in question. For instance, write Ti<i></i>en, only with [ ] instead of < >. That way, the html tags will be invisible in your post, making it look like you've simply written the name.

I get your point, and I wasn't trying to be elitist (a word that gets used too often these days) or anything, I was just curious. It is sometimes interesting to see how people will justify things, and I assumed I'd get a short response, but I got more of a rant instead. So I'm assuming people have given you crap about this before on other forums, since this is only your fifth post, I doubt you'd have gotten crap on these forums already.
Anyway, I'm not getting elitist about this, just simply explaining where the name came from and why Mike auto-filters it. If you still want to use Tien, that's fine by me because most people will know who you're talking about anyway. So please don't get too defensive, because I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes here.
"Tien" is FUNimation's dub name for the character Tenshinhan. In the Japanese version of the series and the manga, Chaozu often refers to Tenshinhan as Ten, which is somewhat of a nickname. So to be creative, FUNimation simply added an 'i' to this nickname to create the name "Tien". But then they took a step further and added an 'i' to Tenshinhan, changing his name to "Tien Shinhan". So really, it's not so much a dub name, as simply misspelling a name. Basically, the only difference between the way you spell it and the way I spell it is the letter 'i'. I believe that is why Mike auto-filters this on the forums, because it's basically a pointless change. If you can write Tien, you can write Ten.

Oh no! I'm sorry! I didnt mean to give you the impression that I thought you were being Elitest! I have just dealt with that crap before, was just explaining! ^_^Hujio wrote:I get your point, and I wasn't trying to be elitist (a word that gets used too often these days) or anything, I was just curious. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

The fight's already on YouTube.Kunzait_83 wrote:Mind you these simple still images do the scene absolutely no justice whatsoever as both it and the fight as a whole counts as one of Ten’s hands down most badass moments in the whole series… but it’s better than nothing for now.

The scarring takes places at the end. Part two is linked to in the side menu.

I have a few of the dragonball dvd's, i have series 1, 2, 3 and i think 4? and then it skips forward and I have the end of the series with Piccolo and goku fighting, and chi chi's wedding and all that.Kunzait_83 wrote:If you’re a Yamucha/Tenshinhan fan Trixen, I would highly recommend you check out original Dragon Ball any way that you can, as that series is where the VAST majority of both characters’ best moments occur, particularly Tenshinhan.
