That lazy bastard? The guy who essentially invented the Super Saiyan power up so he wouldn't have to keep filling in Goku's hair with black? The guy who made his villain designs into charicatures of his editors?
There really isn't anything wrong with taking some liberties. Some things just don't transition well into live action, or would be difficult to take seriously. As nice as it is to appeal to fans, the fact is, they have to appeal to a much wider audience, and the designs need to not be absurd-looking.
And if you don't think people would take Piccolo's design as being a racist attack against Middle Easterners, please refer to the critical response to 300. A movie based on a mid-90s comic, based on a black and white movie, based on a real event, was taken by numerous critics to be a pro-Bush, pro-America, anti-Islamic, anti-Arabic film, most often stating it to be an obvious parallel. Movie critics are idiots with no knowledge of source material, and, frankly, so are most movie-goers.
