Hey, the Japanese live-action Sailor Moon series was...

I know that this isn't the most accurate color choice, but it looks like a live-action green Piccolo would look pretty retarded.

If it was bright and glowy, yes. O_o

I'm not for or against live-cation Piccolo from what we know so far, I do think your image is a bad argument. Not only was that outfit and lighting designed to compliment the yellowish(yellow greenish?) skin tone and black leather outfit.

If he WAS green, then the final product would not look anything like that.

Sailorspazz? That was actually extremely awesome. I love that style of crazy 80's cartoon, and if that had been made we'd be up one 80's cartoon and then the original would be left for someone -other- than Saban or Dic to pick up and bring over, you know, good.

And ssj_rambo, even though you picked highlighter-green he looks better already. The darker he gets the better he looks.

I'll note again that I'm totally in love with his gi. Everything for his look would be better if he was just green.

As Chuquita so elegantly put it; if the Hulk can be green, why can't Piccolo?

The fact this bothers so many people is because there isn't a single good reason that he can't be green, it was just a decision made by an art department who's school of thought when it comes to adapting something, is to completely ignore the original and make their own shit up. I'm not saying this movie is going to be horrible just because of Piccolo's make-up and costume design, I think this movie will be horrible because the wrong people were hired to adapt the franchise.

I don't want something exactly like the original material, I just want something recognizable.

That second picture? Exactly what I want. I'll even give up the antennae if I can have a sexy deep-green Deamon Lord.

(and I know, he's not suppose to be 'beautiful' but I have weird tastes, this has already been established)

I'd actually go for a darker, more marshy green for a live-action Piccolo.

In my eyes Daimaou is a really viciously dark green- it almost burns with the contrast to the eyes when they're red, as happens to Daimaou men at times- the whole visage is fascinating yet deeply frightening in ways that don't quite make sense.

Of course, this is my fandom image not the cannon one or the liveaction one. For this varient I'd be happy whith what's shown in that pic, is what I meant

And the WTF Lock comment, it was because of the cursing and the sniping at the other poster.

Except I DID use a silly face. Two of them in fact.

Now I know how Chrono Trigger must've felt. Oh well, age old lesson re-learned; the internet sucks at most forms of sarcastic humor, so it's best to never even attempt it.

Anyway back on topic, I do think that that pic does help prove (for those who seem to doubt) that Piccolo could've easily had both the antenna and green skin and it would've looked perfectly fine in live action and made him a helluva lot more visibly recognizeable as being the same character from the source material.

I think you're taking it way too seriously. You think Toriyama would be insulted? That lazy bastard? The guy who essentially invented the Super Saiyan power up so he wouldn't have to keep filling in Goku's hair with black? The guy who made his villain designs into charicatures of his editors?

There really isn't anything wrong with taking some liberties. Some things just don't transition well into live action, or would be difficult to take seriously. As nice as it is to appeal to fans, the fact is, they have to appeal to a much wider audience, and the designs need to not be absurd-looking.

And if you don't think people would take Piccolo's design as being a racist attack against Middle Easterners, please refer to the critical response to 300. A movie based on a mid-90s comic, based on a black and white movie, based on a real event, was taken by numerous critics to be a pro-Bush, pro-America, anti-Islamic, anti-Arabic film, most often stating it to be an obvious parallel. Movie critics are idiots with no knowledge of source material, and, frankly, so are most movie-goers.

I thought this was all fucking hilarious, especially since the Persians were not Arabs (and still aren't), and Islam wouldn't arise for a thousand years.

Thats an incredibly disrespectful thing to say about a creator of Toriyama's caliber. Lazy is the last word I would use to describe him. His workload doing Dragonball would have broken most artist. Not to mention all the side projects he did.

You are dreaming if you think he does not care about his art and designs being desecrated. This is the man who refused to allow Dragonball to be released in the United States, til he was guarrenteed it would not be flipped. the reason being he felt it would hurt the art. Now somebody can correct me if I'm wrong. But I'm fairly certain, Dragonball was the first manga released here in its right to left format.

So I have to think seeing his favorite Dragonball character redesigned to be a ninja pus ball would bother him would bother him.

While we're on the topic of how this movie would make Toriyama feel, he's an excerpt from DragonBall Forever where Toriyama talks about the prospect of a live-action movie:
Happy but Embarrassed
The DragonBall Re-Boom
Even now there are many fans, and various books and games are being made...I guess financially I'm pretty happy (laughs). There's even talk that it'll be made into a movie. Ye~ah...if I'm happy then I'm happy, but I don't really like to see my own work so much. Unless it's really astounding, I won't feel like meddling with the script or content...I don't have any particular requests concerning the cast. I like movies, but my own work is no good for them, and most of all I'm embarrassed. I think that every now and then, but then I think “Man, that's pretty cold-hearted for the author to think that”. Even during serialization I think I had those cold-hearted feelings, the sense that I was drawing because it was my job. When the games have been made as well, I haven't really touched them.
