I doubt it's that. You can use any colour, really, it's just that green is a lesser used colour. If you have a lot of green in the shot, use a blue-screen.

Then after that you have a purple and white alien who can kill billions of people with his finger, an insect man that likes to sting people with his tail and was created for the sole purpose of "sucking up" two robotic teenagers, and a fat pink bubblegum monster that likes to turn people in to chocolate and EAT them....and that's why Dragon Ball is one of the BEST stories I've ever read. 8)

I'm sorry but those do look kinda lame. I hope they don't look as clunky as a Putty Patrol warrior when they actually move in movie in the movie. :?

Hey, for all we know they might change drastically by the time the movie comes out (let's hope they do)...I'm just saying, with what we have there they definitely do resemble something from one of those cheesy shows. :P

That's exactly the same reason why Michael Bay used more blue on Optimus because red is difficult to work with screens. BUT, that still doesn't explain why they didn't go with green. I can understand them trying to avoid in-your-face green, but what about Leterrier Hulk green?

Okay, here's a better picture of a Fulum. Doesn't look anywhere near as low-budget with full "makeup" and such,

I hate to be negative guys, but there is somthing I gottta get out right now. Who thinks this is going to be the last gasp for any hopes of getting a good DB movie? At least we still have the Akira movie to look forward to and maybe can live through this one. On another note...

I do think I get why Piccolo is light skinned and not green in the movie. I guess being in a jar or rice cooker would make someone pale. You know..no sunlight and no green, being a sickly shade of yellow. Kind of like when a plant doesn't get enough sunlight and the leaves start to fall off? Maybe that explains it, but I can't be seen defending this movie. All I do is criticize it and make nasty commentary on how bad it is! That's not the way I really feel right? ::Sarcasm off::

I like the idea that he's pale because he's old, and when/if he gets the wish to become young again he'll get more green.

Seen them before, when that image first surfaced. And, as I said, the Power Rangers comparison was never applicable.

We've got a green Piccolo and a blue Gi on Goku. And then who knows what other funky colors you could get in a Dragonball movie.

Like I said, the green-screening, if at all a factor, wouldn't have been the only one. Lighting and shading and texturing and so forth come into play as well. It's entirely possible that the alternate greens didn't look good. Or they could have just not wanted to deal with the hassle of green matching at all.

Anyway, in celebration of having PSP7 once more I made my own edit of Piccolo to make him green and make his outfit purple. I know others have done so already but meh, who cares.

I don't really know how "old" they are getting. I don't know how many may have been made before. I was directly replying to one thing. I haven't read every single page of every iteration of these movie threads, because they grow at a ridiculous rate.

As for being "non-applicable," if those things don't look like they could pass for Tokusatsu villains of the week, then you don't watch much tokasatsu. Hell, if you use some imagination and fuse Tottobatto with a Golem (both from ZyuRanger) with a more monsterous face and there you go. It's not really an insult to say that, and if you think otherwise that's cool, but it's hardly non-applicable.

We are talking about the series that spawned this, right?

And these guys?

And let's be honest. The Cell Saga Saiyan battle armor is just a flashy helmet away from being a Super Sentai uniform.

And I wasn't even thinking about this, but Piccolo's live action suit is basically a fresh coat of paint, some chains, a neck guard, and a beetle helmet away from being Kiva.

Don't even have to look for old threads. I counted at least 15 of them while I was backtracking through this one to find the original Piccolo image for my edit, and I skipped 25 pages.

Well, I watched the majority of MMPR and a handful after, I've seen Magiranger, Boukenger, and 17 episodes of Dekaranger (would be more but long FLV files play like shit on this computer unless downloaded and watched in Winamp and I've yet to find a means to download from CrunchyRoll), and I've seen the live action Sailor Moon series which is basicly the same deal.

So I've seen enough Tokusatsu shows to know what they're like. Which is why I say the Power Rangers comparison is a load of bull. They're monstery costumes, that's it. There's nothing inately different about these guys and any other monster character seen in Dragonball, aside from being made out of materials instead of ink.

That's well and good, if you take my comment as an insult. It wasn't. It was a joking comparison. I didn't suggest there was anything "innately different about these guys and any other monster character seen in Dragonball." My response post went further into my general belief that you can liken many things in the Dragon Ball series (original and this film) to the tokusatsu genre (and that Toriyama did this intentionally on at least two occasions). Monsters themselves aren't inherent to tokusatsu, but it is one of the bigger regular genres to feature them week by week in live action, and has been for decades. We didn't really have anything over here like that, with that level of success, until we started buying and adapting tokusatsu footage.

The guy who is labled as Gohan's stunt double was an actor on Star Trek Enterprise too. But I guess if you look hard enough you can find connections with almost anything.
