It wasn't focused on at all, not only because it wasn't Toriyama's thing, but because it wasn't Goku's thing. There's nothing to suggest that he fell "in love", we see that Goku cares for Chi-Chi in his own way, but it's clear throughout the series that Goku isn't capable of the romantic kind of love you're talking about.

We also don't see a romance between Bardock and Selypa, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen!, she's Goku's mother!!

We never saw Selypa clinging to Bardock or making any other kind of romantic advance, ultimately resulting in a kid. Goku had to have returned the feelings eventually. Just because he's got other priorities doesn't mean he's stupid, or some kind of emotionless training-robot.

I agree, but not to the extent that Chi-Chi cares for him, he's just not wired that way. I have the same problem with this movie as I do with the FUNimation dub, they're trying to shoehorn some romance in despite it being out of character, the relationship between Goku and Chi-Chi would have been cultivated over years, it wasn't a case of chemistry or love at first sight, it was Chi-Chi's persistence.

LOL guys.

There's no point in arguing over the changes. If you do that you would be going on all night (wait you already do that).
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

Yeah, that line was pretty corny and out of place, no matter how "cute" it was.

Well, at least we partially agree. Like I've said, we know for the majority of the film, Goku IS completely clueless to Chi-Chi's feelings, and she likely does have to work at it to get it requited. Odds are that kiss is towards the finale of the movie, whenever Goku finally "gets it" and decides to return the favor. It'd only be really badly out of place if they were macking from the get-go.

 Sucks. It looks like your ordinary martial arts fantasy with the usual CGI and wire-fu action. There's nothing  'ish about the teaser at all. The little action we saw is nothing extraordinary, as it should be. I'll remain optimistic, for now, until I see the official trailer. But, my hopes for this movie has decreased tremendously.

Agreed.

If it plays out somewhat like that I'll be a little happier.

I thought Chatwin said in an interview that was basically how it was going to happen. And, offscreen or no, does anyone really think that Goku never kissed Chi Chi?
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

I seriously just want to know, I hadn't heard that was definitely how it'd be. If it's really so one-sided, it wouldn't be so bad.

I think it was either him or Chung that said that in an interview.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

Is that an actual FUNi dub quote? Cause I totally don’t remember that one. Ugh, fucking gag me with a spoon.

I think I might've brought up this point before in one of the other live action movie threads, but I don’t get how some folks can get so up in arms about this movie being unfaithful to its source material when considering that the dub and the overall FUNimation marketing has been thoroughly ass raping this franchise stateside for WAAAAAAAAY longer. This movie feels almost inconsequential to me at this point.

I’m not saying that someone can’t be a dub fan and also still hate this movie… I’m just saying that it makes people who are dub fans complaining about the movie being an unfaithful adaptation seem fairly hypocritical considering some of the unbelievable bullshit that some of the same people will bend over backwards to defend in the dub.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I think you're all underestimating the romantic involvement of Goku and Chichi. I mean, there's definitely a lot of family love there, I see it especially during the Saiyan saga, and there is a lot in there that connects them as compatible people.

Goku's a lovable, airheaded jungle boy. Okay. But he also is one of the most loving and caring characters, although a bit oblivious and selfish. Still, in times of peace, when he doesn't have fighting to distract him...

...he obviously got it on with Chichi AT LEAST twice. So he obviously wasn't just more or less raped once and that was that. He apparently liked intimacy and sex enough to give it another go. =p

Chatwin still only had his oblivious face in the trailer. I didn't feel too much/any "dragonball-ness" from this trailer. Though Piccolo looks pretty cool.

Only FUNimation are allowed to fuck Dragonball up.

Seriously though, I completely agree, many fans seem to consider the FUNimation dub exempt from critisicm, simply because it's the "official English version" and the majority of them have no interest in checking out the original because of some sort of demented loyalty.

Not to mention the sad reality that the bulk of the fanbase has very little knowledge of Dragonball pre "Z" era, which makes their protests even more ridiculous.

Has this been talked about already? Where did the video go? Did anyone save it/is there another source?
