What is this guys correct name? Originally we got work of "Table". Then romanized "Tarbaru"...Then most recently (And in the Toei Subs) "Tarble". Which is correct?

It's written as ターブル taaburu, which can be read as Tarble, however Table preserves the pun.

Well, the word "vegetable" is written "bejitaburu" with katakana, and an extended a is often used to represent the english "er" or "ar" (or, in made-up names like this, transliterated as such). "Tarble" works well, and definitly gets the point across. Spelling it "Table" makes it look like it's pronounced "teiburu". Sure, it's the way it's written in the word it's a pun on, but Tarble's name isn't pronounced like the "table" part of "vegetable" any more than Vegeta's name is pronounced like the "vegeta" part.

Honestly, the spelling "Vegita" gets the entire "it's almost like the word it's a pun on, but not quite" concept much better across, but that ship sailed a long time ago.

There's a bit of a debate going on regarding that....obviously, 'taaburu' is meant to be the second half of the 'vegetable' pun. Just like with Vegeta's name, it has an extended vowel that is not present in the romanization of the original English word. On the site for the special and in the subtitles, they add an 'r' into the name, probably because an extended 'a' sound is often used in Japanese in place of an 'r' sound. Personally, I don't think it's correct to spell it that way, since there is no 'r' in 'vegetable', so I like to use 'Table' because it preserves the pun (though at first glance, it looks like a different sort of pun since it's spelled the same as the piece of furniture). So the "official" English spelling (as put forth by the Japanese company) is 'Tarble', but not everyone agrees that it's correct.

"Tarble" works fine for me. As an English speaker, when I read "table" I think of furniture, not the second half of "vegetable." If adding the slight 'R' sound helps pin the pronunciation and keep it closer to the actual theme, then it's all good as far as I'm concerned.

There's no 'a' in 'Freezer' either. I don't really see what you're getting at.

Nor is there a 'TZ" in "radish." :D

Since "Tarble" is considered acceptable, arguably the most official, and since it's pronounced "Tarbo/Tarbuh" in the anime, I'm sticking with Tarble. :)

Not everyone agrees that it's correct? It might not be to everybody's liking, but that's another problem...

Anyone else keep mixing up 'Tarble' with 'tarball' packages (*.tar.bz2)?

I prefer Table, just to preserve the pun.

I'm writing Tarble, since that's how it is pronounced in the new special.

I use Tabaru, because "Table" (though preserving the pun) makes me think of furniture and "Tarble" doesn't preserve the pun.

But how does Tabaru preserve the pun then?
And is Tabaru the way his name is pronounced?

My personal preference is 'Table.' I think the 'r' sounds weird when pronounced in English.

First I called him Table due the pun, but seeing it spelled as Tarble on the official site and in the subtitles I started calling him that and that's what I'm going with now.
