Seriously the subtitles in the new DBZ special made me sick to my gut and made my head hurt, trying to read them and then finding out that most of them wearn't translated properly ><

I wished Diamo did the subtitles for this special when it premiered online, and does anyone know when Funimation will get to dub this new special and translate it perfectly like they do with their other releaces with Diamo's fantastic subtitles?

I didn't think they were bad at all, personally. I mean, sure, there's probably parts where they fall short or may be inaccurate, but I thought they conveyed what the characters were trying to say well enough, and managed to convey the plot in general in a non-destructive way.

Really, I think we should be thankful that there were any subtitles at all for this release. I honestly didn't expect there to be, especially by Shonen Jump themselves (or someone they hired, anyway).

I'm not totally seasoned when it comes to who normally subs these things, but really, it wasn't that bad.

I agree with Tweaker, for the time being we're lucky to have any subtitles. When Funimation gets it they'll probably redo them, but you never know with them. Either way, I think they're good enough to understand what's being said and no major points are missed.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with that line. Not only was it accurate, it's what was said in the script.

Dogi is a perfectly acceptable word and you should be grateful this even had English subtitles.

As in script, I meant what was said by the VA on film. I heard Dogi~, and not another word like Dogi, that no one would notice if we put another word here, because we can't translate properly.

Wish I did have a script, at this moment.

So in short it was just another way of saying Gi, as in the shirts the Z fighters wear according to my Funimation DVD's subtitles... heh I prefer the translation as Gi instead of Dogi. No wonder I got confused ><

For example, there's a part in the subs in which Chi Chi is calling her husband Goku-sa (there would be an "n" at the end, but she's a hick) and they translate it to Mr. Goku. Would a wife actually call her husband mister? In this case, I prefer Daimao's method of just leaving honorifics intact.

Hmmm, that is weird. Admittedly, I haven't seen the Boo arc subbed, so I had know about that. It seems like more of a description that an honorific.

It's more of a job description/classification ("Wizard/Mage Babidi "). I've also wondered about Daimao's chose there, since I don't see what's untranslatable about madoushi (just for trivia purposes, madoushi is the word used in Final Fantasy for the black and white mages).
