It seems like everything FUNimation does, some people like, while others don't like. It's almost impossible to please everyone. To do that they would need about 5 audio tracks and 3 different alternate angles, and whatever.
Also, were the eyecatchers cut visually or just on the audio? And at the end of them, beginning, etc?

To be honest, the only thing I really dislike about the GT Season set (aside from Hercule being used, for at least part of the set) is the lack of alternate angles.
When I watch a series in Japanese, I'd like what I'm watching to be exactly what it was in Japan (only add in subtitles). Sure, the episode title screens aren't huge parts of the episodes, and the Funi GT logo still basically looks like the original but it does bug me.
Other than that, I look at the season sets as a way to get every episode from start to finish in an affordable way. Even with its mistakes.

I also feel that the Japanese version should be watched like it was originally. It just feels weird watching something in Japanese and all the credits are in English and the English production credits and everything are listed, even though they didn't do anything, minus subtitles. Alternate angles are a great way to get the original version how it originally was, but American Anime companies only care about America and what the Americans did. They could care less if people want to see the Japanese credits, but they want them to know what they, themselves, did to the series.SereneCrimson wrote:To be honest, the only thing I really dislike about the GT Season set (aside from Hercule being used, for at least part of the set) is the lack of alternate angles.

It comes out this Tuesday, the *counts* 9th.
Hmm, I'll have to look into that.

Anyway, definitely an odd move on their part.

If you watch them in Japanese, they're funny.

They've got some cool narration, and in one case, footage that was not used anywhere but in that preview, there were movie promos and ticket give-aways in two or three of them... and I think that's about it.tarrin4ever wrote:Could someone remind me exactly what's so good about having the "next episode" segment at the end of the episode?

Technically speaking, that pronunciation (Sah-tahn) would be more correct than the other (Seyt-n) because that’s how his name is actually pronounced in the Japanese version. Of course, it’s taken directly from the Japanese loanword for “Satan” (サタン), but that’s irrelevant because if they wanted to reflect the English pronunciation in the kana they could’ve.NeptuneKai wrote:I've always said they should have just pronounced his name as Mr. "Sat-un" in the dub, that way the real name could go on air and people could stop bitching. Sure the pronunciation would be messed up but at least I never would have to hear the name "Hercule".

No, you're thinking of the name "Lucifer" there. "Satan" appears in the Book of Job.MajinVejitaXV wrote:A character who was born of a bad transliteration of Isiah 14:12 from the Hebrew to Latin and wasn't even in the Bible in the first place? :PBig Momma wrote:Besides, I like to view it as a little representation the real Satan:

So I finally got off my ass and made that mix for "You Are Not Alone" like I said I would.
This one...isn't that great because the arranged version's music couldn't be drowned out by Hitori Ja Nai's music without drowning out the singer. Never the less, hope you guys enjoy.

While I understand where you're coming from, I don't think that's quite true. There's really only 3 versions of the show fans want, that I can think of.kusakun004 wrote:It seems like everything FUNimation does, some people like, while others don't like. (1) Original Japanese version: original openings, title cards, eyecatches, endings, next episode previews, English subtitles, and Japanese audio track
(2) Proper English version: everything the same as the Japanese version, only with an English dub audio track
(3) Butchered English version: what FUNi originally did - "lost" episodes, new openings, new logo, new music, etc...
To keep the majority of the fans happy, I think all they'd have to do is release versions (1) and (2) on this set. I guess you could release version (3) instead of (2) to make some of the dub fans happy, but that's a whole other issue in itself.
Now, I've held my tongue on this subject, because I had never planned on buying this set nor have I really looked into any FUNi releases since they announced "DragonBall Z, the way it was meant to be seen!" But what FUNi has done and is doing now to DragonBall GT thoroughly pisses me off to no end. I feel like they just slapped a large number of fans in the face, but they don't care because they know fans will still buy this, as there's no other option available. It's crap like this that makes me detest what FUNi has done to the DragonBall franchise in America.
I will clarify, so that there's no confusion, I have nothing against dub fans. If you pick this set up, I understand why and have no problem with that either. It just still boggles me that after all these years, FUNi seems to not care what they do to a franchise that has done so much for them as a company. Is it so hard to ask for just one proper release?
Sorry to anyone I may have offended during this shortened rant.
