I don't know where to put this, but I need help.
Back when the 25th or whatever anniversary of Dragon Ball happened, remember the different manga authors drew Dragon Ball characters in their own style? Well, I'd like to see these again but can't find them. Please help?

I loves these drawings. It just makes me proud to be a fan of the series when I see what a huge impact it had on so many other artists.
Masashi Kishimoto and Eichira Oda's sketches are my personal favorites.

Those all also originally came with a page-long commentary by each author on their memories of the series (or at least they do in DragonBall: Landmark). Has anyone ever translated those?

I'm not really sure. The "Children of DragonBall" pictures themselves were originally printed as inserts for the first printings of the kanzenban, so I assume that the little artist commentary essay things were printed with them. My only uncertainty comes from the fact that while the pictures are brought up quite often, I've never seen anyone mention the artist commentary, so maybe they were only printed in DragonBall Landmark.Kingdom Heartless wrote:I would really like to see those.

I don't have Landmark with me, but I remember that in Oda's essay he talked about his reaction to Kuririn's death, and wondering where the story would go from there. He says that he now knows not even Toriyama himself knew at the time. In Tite Kubo's one, he talks about the impression the villians left on him. He recalls when Tao Pai Pai first appeared, and how he and his friends argued about which was stronger, the Kamehameha or the Dodon-pa. He also says that when Trunks appeared was the biggest shock he ever got from reading a manga. I don't remember much apart from that.

This is what I have, as taken from DragonBall Landmark.Herms wrote:I don't have Landmark with me, but I remember that in Oda's essay he talked about his reaction to Kuririn's death, and wondering where the story would go from there. I have them all laying around here somewhere. Maybe we should do something with them (@Herms)? By the way, this is the only one I have translated.Oda Eiichirou-sensei wrote:That unforgettable day one summer, when our lively class was overnight lodging at the minshuku [private home used as an inn], someone was crying out "Krillin has died!!" while running through the corridor. "DragonBall" would see a huge development in that week's Jump. It was much more important to us than any actual news. Everybody would discuss Jump, and every week friends would crowd around to speak about the story. "What will happen next week?" What happens to so-and-so? What really happened?
In the 11 years that DragonBall was serialized, how many times did we say "What will happen"?
There is a saying, "God's groove is understandable," and in this case the author is God of being terrible, which apparently Toriyama-sensei had personally said. "What will happen?" Ah...! It's haphazardly reached its extent.
However, our expectations of Toriyama, err, Goku, were never betrayed although the circumstances were reverse of what we wanted. Boys in the entire country, every week, would raise their voices of great joy over the behavior and skill of Goku and his friends. When Goku goes to an unknown place, together we would think "Where is this?" and as Goku gets angry, together we would cry out "This is unforgivable!!" The weekly serialization was born out of unique Japanese culture, and truly is a shounen comic for the boys.
"DragonBall" is a masterpiece.

Oda Eiichirou-sensei
Born on January 1, 1975, in Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture / His debut production was "WANTED!" (His aim was to become a Manga-ka for JC! He earned praise at Dezuka-Akatsuka for his work on the 11th volume) / In 1997 "ONE PIECE" began its serialization in Weekly Shounen Jump number 34, and is still running to this day.

There, that'll be nine dollars.Kame-sennin is probably the first true “dirty old man” that many people ever saw. Thinking about it now, there was even a deep meaning behind his nickname being “turtle”.
