Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

Yeah, but I think he meant that kuso and kuzo are two different things, which is right.

Rikaichan produced nothing for "kuzo" or "kuzou."

Ah, I think it was 'kono yaro' that I was thinking of. Don't know how I got that mixed up.

Wait...that's what I said in the first place looking back at it.

Uh, so yeah, kuso = feces, shit, crap, sometimes dammit or fuck if you want to get across the point that they're being rude/crude.

That's "kozou", which does not alternatively mean "bastard".

I typed in "kozou" (こぞう) and got "youngster" out of it.

Yeah, it means "youngster", "kiddo", "little kid"... it's what the Urban Dictionary guy was trying to write.

'Kozu" is also similiar to 'kuzu', meaning "garbage", which is used as an insult. It's what Goku calls Freeza right after becoming a Super Saiyan, for instance.

'Kuso' = 'Dammit' (I kinda agree with this one but not really because it can mean 'shit' too since 'kuso' literally means "feces")
Yaro, Temae, Kisama=Bastard (depending on tone. Those words literally mean "you" however depending on the tone it could translate into something like bastard just fine and dandy).

I mean I really don't think there's a word for something like the English fuck but I will say that there is swearing in Dragon Ball. PG level stuff people :P but there's still swearing.
In the 2001 redub of Akira, Tetsuo's "Kuso!" was translated as "Fuck!" and it also appears this way in the JP subtitles. In the original dub I think it was something along the lines of "Guauahhh". :P
Never saw the original dub but given the movie was R-rated, not too surprising. Not too many R-rated movies that aren't period pieces that don't have any f-bombs. Only ones I can think of are the Bebop movie and Matrix 1.

Isn't that the DVD with the Dubtitles that everyone was kinda pissed about? Manga always fuck up with Subtitles...
I know this is kinda (and by that I mean completely) O-T, but...

OK, "Manga". So, you bring out uncut 3-disc 13-episode sets of Naruto in the UK. Fan-dabby-dozy. Shoddy (but acceptable) subtitles with various needless "Britishisms" (Naruto's "This is rubbish!" always leaps to mind)? Fine, I'll live. So, you bring out two sets like this. OK. Next two sets?

Dubtitles.

Screw you, Manga.

Fortunately, they must have heard the collective wailing of fans and decided to get their lazy asses back into actually translating the Japanese dialogue. Fine, I can live with that.

Ah, well, those sets' presentation is always nice...

Just for laughs, I'd love to see more F-Bombs in the Matrix movies. Somewhere around a ton of 'em. Makeit seem like Animelabs wrote the screenplay or something.

To Tanooki:

1. Your art is amazing.
2. I wish I had a Dragon Ball friend like you
3. I found your site: http://www.thetanooki.com/2008/11/25/fr ... o-mario-3/

On topic:
The onlything about the dub that has bothered me were all the mis-translations. Bardock a scientist, Dr. Gero's lttle backstory that had no dialoge in the Japanese version. Stuff like that.

Import Viz's R1 Naruto sets.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, his dub VA can't act, he's nothing short of awful throughout all of Dragonball, he just sounds like a young guy pretending to be an old man, struggling to read the lines from his script.
He's great as Buggy the Clown and Ritsu Sohma. He has a great sense of humor too. At Ouran cast announcement he came out in drag (he plays a drag queen in that show).

Haha, I just remembered I have a VHS of Manga's dub of Street Fighter II V(Street Fighter two vee, not 25 or 3)

I think that was the first time I heard a really extreme curseword in a dub. ("You little s***!")

I really don't prefer cursing in my anime, or even in any media. Mostly in anime, sometimes it can just come off as "YEAH! LETS MAKE THIS EXTREME WITH CURSING!"

But thats only when it's really profuse. I don't mind a few d***'s here and there, but I just hate words like f***, s***, ba****d, and b***h. It may be the way I was raised, but those words just send a bad feeling up my spine.

I especially hate it when people complain about fansubs because "they dumb down cussing" or things like that. A lot of people who don't know much/or any Japanese watch these subs and think that the anime they are watching is for adults or teens because of the swearing they use.

Words like "kuso/kuzo" can easily be crap, darn it, or lesser things like that. I'm not saying there aren't tones where a "d***" is acceptable, its just that a lot of people get kind of overboard.

I dunno, call me a "tone it down Tommy" but I'm just not a big fan of cursing. I think its usually unneccesary. Besides, it's a lot more fun to make up swears! (At least thats what I think)

In the UK Akira was distributed by Manga Entertainment, in fact, it was their first release.

I don't know if they were personally responsible for the subtitles though.
