I hate this, I strongly believe it's an evil way of thinking.
Well, it seems like a more defendable approach for
Street Fighter than for
Dragon Ball, anyway...
But yeah, when I read the writer's views about that movie... Basically, he's arguing that the
Street Fighter plot should be "taken seriously", but to me, it just sounds like he's desperate to show fans that he's "totally like them": he "gets it"... when he really doesn't.
The plot was silly from day one, and made no excuses about that. I think the first attempt at telling an
actual story was in the
Street Fighter Zero series... and it's hard to take it
that seriously.

It's definitely a far better candidate than
Dragon Ball ever was.
For one thing, it's pretty much grounded in our reality.
You need money for the SFX? Hollywood has money.
Hollywood would never work with an Asian cast? Good thing an Asian cast isn't needed, then.
I believe you could make a pretty good live-action
Cowboy Bebop movie.
...
But I'm also pretty sure they'll fuck this one up anyway, as usual... Keanu Reeves? Really? Plus, if it's Fox we're talking about... What were the last decent flicks they produced, again?
