The story on "Veku", the skrawny failed Gogeta, as told in Daizenshuu 6:
The tubby Veku, a failed Fusion, appeared in “The Rebirth of Fusion!!~”. Actually, at the storyboard stage there was another, scrawny Veku. They were going to fail at Fusion numerous times, but this would have made the story tedious, so it was cut.

You know, I just realized that that particular form wasn't used in the movie... Thanks for the enlightenment!

I thinks it's really cool how much taller than Goku (and especially Vegeta) that version of Gogeta was supposed to be.

Image

Since Goku is what, 5' 10", I'd say this form of Gogeta would have been about 8 feet tall!

According to the Daizenshuu, Goku is 5'7 (real short, I know), so Anorexic Gogeta probably isn't that tall. ;)

Oh, thanks. I knew it was 5 foot something. So here's probably somewhere around 7 and a half feet tall... which is pretty tall for the Dragon World.

So there's an update on this now over at Kanzentai. Maybe there should be a new thread for this?

I should have updated the site with all this last night when we were talking about it. I completely spaced it off, and then it hit me when I got home from school. Although last night, Amazon Japan hadn't updated the cover art yet, so we only had the tiny images from Toei's site. Oh well, at least Mike got to update Daizenshuu EX with it before I got around to it. ;)

Wow, by the time it took me to exit out of Kanzentai, go pee, come back to the computer and come, here Hujio posted the update. I'm glad the blog update was noted, only I would have made a point of the cool *rare* design of failed, skinny (tall) Gogeta being there as well.

By the way Herms, in the Daizenshuu 6 "story" on scrawny Veku, does it include an image? If not, does anyone know of any place other than the jump blog that this character design was released?

PS: Hujio, did you get my last e-mail?

The "Library of Adventure" at the end of Daizenshuu 6 has images of just about every character that appeared in a movie. This section has some character design images for Gogeta, along with his two failed fusions (fat and skinny). And yes, I did get your e-mail.

Like Hujio said, Daizenshuu 6 does include an image of him, but the story behind him is actually located somewhere else, in the "Memorial" section for DBZ movies 12 and 13. They have these "Memorial" pages for each year DB movies were made, giving trivia on each movie that was released that year.

5'7! That's ridiculous. I don't care what the Daizenshuu say. If Goku is only 5'7 than everyone else is 3.5' tall. I'd say Goku is really about 6'2 in the "real world".

Whine! Whine! Whine! Whine!
Gohan: At least he doesn't have his sword out anymore.
Kuririn: Yeah, and your dad put his finger away too.

Omg, I would've loved to watch them try it multiple times. XD

*Wonders if it would've been Vegeta who messed up twice*.

Well, if the Daizenshuu says so, I'm alright with 5'7 Goku.
On hiatus.

It does annoy me that it doesn't say when he's 5'7. Not as a kid, presumably. At the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai? Does he never get taller after that?

I find it very hard to think of him at only being that short. Because then you have to think of Vegeta as something like 5'4 or something, and that just seems weird to me.

And Bulma was surprised at how tall he was as an 18 year old, but I suppose it's just because of how he wasn't very tall at 15.

Add that to the fact that I imagine standing 7 inches over my animated hero, and I don't like that one bit.

But I've never noticed... does he grow after the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai? I mean, when you see him standing next to characters in Cell saga, in the height difference different to what it was at the 23rd Tenkaichi? I guess it's not something you'd really notice, unless it was something drastic.

Kuririn and Chaozu do seem to get shorter in comparision to other characters.

And since Trunks is shorter than Goku, he'd be around 5'5. And since Vegeta is quite a bit shorter than Trunks...

He's technically in proportion with Chuquita's drawings of him. :P
