Son Goku's Disease Origin
Where did Son Goku's viral heart disease come from? I heard that he caught it from one of the Yardratians, but I'm not sure. Maybe it was just a regular disease that ordinary people pick up. Is there anything from the Daizenshuu that gives at least a hint as to where it is from?

I think he could've caught it anywhere, but my personal guess would be Earth because I think it'd be easier to come up with a medicine/antidote to a local strain of virus than it would for a space-virus.
Also Trunks may or may not have said something about the medicine existing regularly in his time versus the present. It could've been some new type of disease and Goku was just one of those to get it first?

Yeah you guys are spot on, In the near future they manage to make a cure for this disease in between fighting the androids. I believe Trunks does say a disease not too far from now, I always implied it was a new super-bug that attacks the heart of humans and saiyans. (A bit like VHD in rabbits.)

I always thought/assumed (take your pick) he picked it up on Yardrat.

Nothing is ever said about when or where he picked it up. Though since a vaccine was created for it in the future, other people besides him must have had it. So if he did pick it up on Yardrat, that would mean that he brought the disease to Earth and spread it around.

<Snip>
... (Meaning, what does this chart show?)
Considering that Goku's symptoms showed up later than Trunks predicted, I want to guess from Earth. It's possible that his training with Piccolo and Gohan (wait, Goku training with Piccolo? I just realized how novell that is...) could have slowed it's surfacing... I figure it probably just kept him away from people more often...
... Goku caught it from the driving school!
... Did I win anything?

I don't know why I thought of the Yardrat thing, I think I might've seen it on Wikipedia or read it in some DBZ book a while ago.
But I now think that Goku must've caught the heart disease on Earth, a regular disease like any other. The strongest being in the universe, a Super Saiyan, being killed by a heart disease.

It's supposed to be contagious, so maybe he picked it up on the island where #19 and #20 debuted, or somewhere he visited shortly before leaving for the island.caejones wrote:Considering that Goku's symptoms showed up later than Trunks predicted, I want to guess from Earth. Basically I'm hypothesizing that, in the original timeline, he went somewhere that caused him to pick it up. Since he was busy training in the altered timeline, he didn't visit that place until about three years later.

Which details? He does say in the manga that there's no cure for the disease now but that there is in the future, if that what you mean. If I remember right (and it's been a lo~ong time), in the dub Trunks says that the heart disease is a new disease that will all over the news pretty soon, which isn't in the original.Kirbopher wrote:Did Trunks say all of those details only in the dub, though?
