Here are the official titles and the originally announced titles for the first four episodes:

Ep. 2 Original wrote:敵は悟空の兄!?最強戦士サイヤ人の秘密
Ep. 2 Actual wrote:敵は悟空の兄!?最強戦士サイヤ人の秘密

Ep. 4 Original wrote:孫悟空が死んじゃった…あの世とこの世のキビしい修行!
Ep. 4 Actual wrote:あの世で走れ孫梧空!100万キロの蛇の道
And translated...
Ep. 1 Original wrote:The Curtain Opens on the Battle! Son Goku Returns
Ep. 1 Actual wrote:The Curtain Opens on the Battle! Son Goku Returns
Ep. 2 Original wrote:The Enemy is Goku's Older Brother!? The Secret of the Saiya-jin, Strongest of Warriors
Ep. 2 Actual wrote:The Enemy is Goku's Older Brother!? The Secret of the Saiya-jin, Strongest of Warriors
Ep. 3 Original wrote:Goku and Piccolo's Strongest Tag-Team! The Fierce Battle Against Raditz
Ep. 3 Actual wrote:A Battle with Their Lives on the Line! Goku and Piccolo's Fierce Suicidal Attack
Ep. 4 Original wrote:Son Goku is Dead... Fierce Training in the Afterlife and Living World!
Ep. 4 Actual wrote:Goku Runs in the Afterlife! The Million Kilometer Snake Road
If it wasn't for the addition of the word "suicide" in the title for episode three, I would see the removal of the word "dead" in episode four as the best example of a Saban-style edit yet.

I wouldn't say "absolute garbage", but they did definitely stand out as sub-par to me.

Y'know...animation was never meant to be watched in still. The quality depends primarily upon whether or not it looks good in motion.

I seriously cannot tell what has and what hasn't been redrawn, so alas...

Yeah, but animation is only as good as the components that it is comprised of. The frames that were redrawn, in more than a few cases, look like a bad flash animation you'd find on Newgrounds.

I watched it in motion, and I think it looks like trash.

So who exactly is Nappa's new seiyuu? I honestly don't care for it much. It sounds...familiar, yet not very Nappa-like. Dunno how to explain it.

And is it me, or do the digital scenes seem to be missing quite a high level of shading that was originally done in Z?

If he doesn't have a hole in his chest, what exactly was so devastating about the blast that it would cost him his life?

Surely the mighty Goku could recover from a burn, no?

So.. does anyone have any pics of those new added frames? The only one I think was new were the lighting effects and such used when Gohan was flying into Raditz.

Even though there's no hole, what if all the internal organs under where it burnt the skin were roasted?

Using my mad kanji looking up skills, I discovered his name is Inada Tetsu. A listing of his other works can be found here (it doesn't list him as being in Kai on ANN, but Wikipedia does). Seems like he done a lot of minor roles, though some bigger ones are in there among all the roles like "man in episode 106 of Sailor Moon" :P

Honestly, I didn't really notice his voice at all during that scene. I was too busy squeeing over Vegeta's corrected colors and hella cute sounding voice....can't remember exactly how he sounded before at this point it the series, but I'm definitely loving it!

I'm posting this here instead of the other Episode 3 thread since this is the official one, but this pertains to a debate that started in there. So if you wana know where I'm coming from, check in there.

I am Getting REALLY REALLY Tired of People calling "Hypocrite" every time someone says they like Kai.
STOP IT!! If you REALLY think that, then you don't know what the real problem with The Saban and FUNi versions are in the first place.

I'll break it down for you:

Saban Edits:
- Reasonable Edits to get the show on TV that were handled well (almost anything involving the Violence)
- Reasonable Edits to get the show on TV that were handled Poorly and look ridiculous (HFIL, "Just you wait till it grows back")
- Nonesensical Script Edits that make absolutely no sense and contribute nothing to getting the show on TV ("Your father was a BRILLIANT SCIENTIST!!")

Actually, All of this is TOTALLY Forgivable (you heard me) So why did it piss everyone off?
Now Pay attention here, this is important.
BECAUSE THEY DID NOT DO AN UNCUT VHS/DVD RELEASE!!

Now, we get to the Solo FUNi days.
What did THEY do?!

- Skipped the Saban episodes due to Rights, and did the rest of the series
- Over saturated the hell out of the video resulting in eye-burning colors (This was forgivable in the grand scheme of things)
- When they finally got around to doing the Saban episodes, they DISCONTINUED THEM BEFORE THEY FINISHED THEM!! You now can't get approximately 30-40 Episodes of Dragon Ball Z in America uncut and in fullscreen. At all.
- Discontinued ALL of their Fullscreen DVDs, so even if you don't care about the missing episodes, you can't get the REST of the fullscreen DVDs without a massive hunt

Then they did the Season Sets...
- Video was straight-cropped, meaning they cropped it the exact same way, straight across the middle of the frame for the ENTIRE SERIES, regardless of the context of the scene in question. This was actually only a SMALL PART of what made these sets suck
- ran the video through an automatic remaster process that removed dust and scratches but also bleached out the picture sometimes and caused lines to disappear during high-motion scenes (this problem went away by about the 4th or 5th boxed set)
- The Ad Campaign pretty much lied to people by calling it "Dragon Ball Z: The way it was MEANT to be seen" and showed Movie Footage to prove their point (the movies WERE meant to be seen in Widescreen, unlike the series)

THAT is Why people hated FUNi and Saban.

Now, what did Toei do?

- Released the ENTIRE SERIES including DB, GT and the Movies on 5 REALLY Nice DVD boxed sets
- The Video was well and truly Remastered, it's all in 4:3 aspect (Except the movies) and the picture quality is superb, no Saturation of the colors.
- They discontinued the boxed sets, but relreleased all of the discs as single volumes, They are still in Print, you can buy them right now in Japan if you like.

And For Kai

- Advertised it as Changed, they flat out said "The Story has been edited to be more Speedy"
- Even went so far as to Rename this edited version and treat it as it's own entitiy
- Rerecorded the Voices with the old cast, and getting an updated musical score. For the First time EVER, Dragon Ball Z in STEREO!! (I SAID Z!! Don't Point out the GT special or the Anniversary Movie to me please)

And this one is VERY important, so I will say it again: They NEVER discontinued the DBZ DVDs. If you don't like Kai, you have the choice to Ignore it. You can buy all 291 Episodes of the Series Entirely unedited, uncropped, and Uncut on DVD in Japan

FUNi has NEVER given us that Luxury, EVER!! There are, and always will be about 40 episodes you just plain CANNOT buy in America unedited and uncropped. You simply can't.

And I'm not saying "OMFG, STOP CRITICISING KAI!!". You can criticize, you can dislike it. Just stop calling us hypocrites for liking it, and Stop acting like by making it, Toei has kicked your dog. Toei has made it EXTREMELY Easy to just ignore Kai and buy the DVDs if you like. They aren't "OMFG EVIL COMPANY MUST DIE!!" They've done an awesome Job with DBZ, and now they've made Kai. you might consider it a a streak in their record if you don't like Kai, but they aren't treating it like Z and you can still get Z if you like, so they've always gone right by Z.

Completely. It is a separate entity. We can take the Kai path, or the Z.

I figure it to be some form of internal injury (a burn, perhaps?) considering that the Makankosappo went all the way through.

Basically this. I'm not saying Makenkosappo works this way, but if you had a lightning bolt past you, it probably wouldn't leave a literal hole. It would mostly just be a bad burn. I don't think the burn in Kai looked bad enough, but it's not like the hole in the manga was a window, either. The force of it seemed to leave an indent in Goku's chest, but even though it passed in from one side and out of the other, it didn't leave a gaping gap.

Then again, the human body closes up when punctured. It could be that the hole was just a lot smaller and more focused than the shape of the attack would lead us to imagine (in the original, this is).

Anyway, yeah...I would have expected more than a minor looking burn on the outside, at least.

In the end, I just call it censorship. Yes, that's bad. Would I have flipped my lid about it back in the day? Absolutely. Will I now? Not really. I'm not about to get that worked up over a TV version of a comic that I enjoy for 24 minutes of my 10,080-minute week. Instead, I'll leave that to the kids who need a reason to rage and take it more seriously than me (now that I've calmed down from Kai hype).

I think that's definitely how I'm feeling. 16-year-old-Mike just starting his website would have flipped his freakin' lid over every single last instance.

Like I said on the podcast, though, I think Wasted Wisher helped ease us into it by saying things ahead of time. We knew some censoring was coming, so that helped soften the blow. Also, well over a decade later, I kinda have more important things to worry about than a new version of a show I like (which does not replace the old version in either memories or physical product) covering up some winkies and getting rid of some pools of blood. Please do not mis-read that as (to quote myself) giving Toei some type of "free pass"; I still think it's ridiculous that these changes need to occur.

Finally saw it. Much like episode two, the pacing seemed great. And Mayumi Tanaka and Ryō Horikawa give neat performances as well. The censoring stood out like a sore thumb to me thanks to it being the rage button here, though.

It feels so awesome to watch this show weekly and still be engrossed in it, something that hasn't been done in probably six years.

I 100% agree with this statement. I've been thinking all weekend, "Why is everyone so up in arms about this and I'm not?" It really isn't anything I'm going to lose sleep over, and reading what you said, that's why. I find that in my older age I don't freak out about too much anymore, and things tend to just slide off my back pretty easy. I guess it helps when you have other things to worry about... and that's not to take anything away from those that are truly upset and outraged. I'm sure they have other important things too.
