Why so much hatred towards this name?

"Hercule" is the French name for Hercules. Appropriately enough, it was the French dub which was the first to use the name to refer to Mister Satan.Ramoro-san wrote:Personally, I hate the aforementioned* name because, above all else, it's just a stupid-sounding name, plain and simple. Who thought of that anyways? ("Hey, let's just take the s off of Hercules and that can be our new name for Mr. Satan!" ... "Okay, sure...")

Except it's more like reverse-censoring: the correction of censorship.Michie wrote:not really. This name filter is just as dump as funimation's cencoring.

Except that word filters never take context into account, hence:Ramoro-san wrote: Except it's more like reverse-censoring: the correction of censorship.

Have to say have encountered similar situations over some characters' names not involving DB. See, once while playing Alpha Anthology with anime club members, no one gave a rat's butt that I kept saying, "Ry-yoo" over and over. But as soon as I said, "Suh-koor-uh" they got on me big time about it. I explained why, but they said my excuses were lame and unexecusable.

I find the word filter rather irritating (I've lost count of how many times I've seen that above scenario), but to its credit it is rather easy to circumvent.Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote:Except that word filters never take context into account, hence:Ramoro-san wrote: Except it's more like reverse-censoring: the correction of censorship.

He doesn't have much else to do. Much like the God of Neptune...it's kind of barren out here.Dr. Casey wrote:I can't help but smile whenever I read one of Ghost of Vegeta's posts. It just seems really silly for the ghost of Vegeta to be hanging around discussing word filters and whatnot.

I think what he meant is H3rcule fits his personality. It sounds like the name of a loud mouth fighter.Herms wrote:How is "Hercule" a more fitting name? Hercules and Mister Satan don't have much of anything in common.
I wonder why some people are saying Mr.Savage is a dumb name. I think it fits his personality as well.
Also I have to agree with those calling word filters stupid. I have yet to see one on any forum that did not make the admin look like a five year old.
That's because you're at a Street Fighter club, they clearly have no life (Ry-yoo is the correct pronunciation, it's Rai-yoo that's wrong).Super Sonic wrote:Have to say have encountered similar situations over some characters' names not involving DB. Well, there's the great and mighty Saiyan empire (boasting a grand total of four subjects) to attend to...!NeptuneKai wrote:He doesn't have much else to do.Dr. Casey wrote:I can't help but smile whenever I read one of Ghost of Vegeta's posts. But seriously - I really don't give a crap about names for the most part. Yeah, "Hercule" is a rather dumb name and they definitely could have done better. When it comes to name spellings, though, I try not to make a big deal out of it. Hell, I'm rather inconsistent with them myself - sometimes I spell Freeza's name as "Frieza" (mostly out of habit) and not really give a damn about it (I actually noticed a member here not too long ago who actually went out of his way to spell it that way, which to me seemed kind of pointless).
There's a difference, though, between an alternate spelling (or misspelling, if you prefer to look at it like that) and a completely different name. Though I suspect someone would have made a fuss if the name were changed to "Mr. Savage" too. Can't please all of the people all of the time.

"Let's just put an extra ka on carrot!"
"Let's just use the word cell/pilaf/piccolo/etc. with no alterations at all!"
Whatever your feelings on its reason for existing, Hercule is not any stupider than all the rest of Dragonball's name puns.

I know his name is pronounced "Ree-yoo". I just can't refer to him by it, since I've been pronouncing his name "Ry-Yoo" since I was 10. Have no prob with anyone else with that name, but the main guy from SF I can't. I'm kinda weird that way.Rory wrote:That's because you're at a Street Fighter club, they clearly have no life (Ry-yoo is the correct pronunciation, it's Rai-yoo that's wrong).Super Sonic wrote:Have to say have encountered similar situations over some characters' names not involving DB.
