New Site Section Suggestion: Toriyama Interviews

Post by Big Momma » Sat Aug 15, 2009 2:39 am

There's not much to say, but maybe a little section on the site(or a page in the "Tidbits" or "Features" section) could be dedicated to interviews with Akira Toriyama? I think it'd be an interesting way for fans to see what goes on in the head of one of the worlds greatest manga-ka.

You could include interviews from the Daizenshuu, "Ask me any question" sections, and the little paragraphs that are in the beginning of each volume.(There are others that I forget, but those could be included as well.)

So...thoughts?

I'd like to see a section like that. Feedback from authors about their stories is interesting to me. :3

And it'd be nice to see all of Mr. Toriyama's interviews collected into one place.
On hiatus.

This is actually something I've been working on for Kanzentai. However, I'm also including cast and staff interviews. Basically it's an "Interview Guide" covering all official interviews. I was thinking of including a little section about rumors, covering things like "Didn't Toriyama say in an interview that he wanted to end the series after the Freeza arc?", but I'm not sure yet. It's still a work in progress.

Establishing the rumours from the real ones would probably be the best part, along with just having all the interviews in one place.

Agreed.

Would that include interviews on Japanese-version folk like Toriyama, from works from outside of Japan like the U.S.?

And I think that be quite a big undertaking for Daizenshuu EX, assuming Mike would want to use Julian Translations, which aren't really on the already packed schedule.

What do you mean, things like interviews from Viz's Shonen Jump? I see no reason to exclude those.

This thread reminds me that I ought to translate the Toriyama Q&A from the Boken Special before my vacation ends.

It reminds me that you should translate the tankoubon Q&A and intros which we wanted to do a year and half ago. :)

I've just heard that in some interview or other Toriyama said he originally planned for Piccolo to be taken over by Babidi instead of Vegeta, but his editor decided otherwise.

It's because of things like this that this idea needs to take form!

I was just wondering, if this section is going to be done, can interviews with Toriyama having other mangaka's such as Eiichiro Oda, also be included? One of the One Piece art books "Colour Walk 1" includes a translated interview including Akira Toriyama and Eiichiro Oda, in which they are mostly talking about Dragon Ball rather than One Piece. I wouldn't mind typing it up or scanning it up or something.
Just another Dragon Ball fangirl in the world.

DB & Tiger and Bunny are my main fandoms, along with many other animes.

Of course! I actually already have that on my list and own the book itself. But thanks for the offer.

So, I might as well get the ball rolling on this. I believe I have every Japanese interview tracked down (84 total), but what I really need help with are the interviews from Viz's Shonen Jump. I have no idea about any of these. What I'm looking for are the titles of the interviews, in which volumes they appeared, and if you have the whole interview you can share, that's even better. I'm more concerned right now with tracking them down and getting them put on the list, so having the actually interview isn't a must at the moment. Thanks for any help in advance!

While I've got every issue (eighty-plus) I'm not sure which issue each is in, aside from maybe the first issue (I think that one has an interview. Not too sure).

I have a Shonen Jump with an interview. It's Volume 4, Issue 7 (July 2006).
