DBZ Movies 6 & 7 Premier Programs Dissection

Post by SSj_Rambo » Fri Aug 21, 2009 3:08 am

So, I managed to pick up a few of the original film programs, handed out at the original Dragonball movie premiers at the Toei Anime Festivals. I'm not providing page-by-page images, because, well, I just won't. Sorry that not all of the pictures are great, I can take scans of some sections if people want. So here we go:

Just to give you an idea of how big these are, here's one next to some other familiar items. They are HUGE:

Image

Dragonball Z Movie 6 ~ Clash!! 10,000,000,000 Powerful Warriors

Image Image

The first two pages:

Some character bios and plot summary pages:

A nice two-page spread and another random two pages:

Image Image

A cool game, featuring second form Hatchyakku, Woody Woodpecker, the Domo Arigato Roboto and Onyx:

Image

A nice stamp cut-out thing and a neat crossword puzzle (let's see someone do this one!):

Image Image

Some merchandise:

Image Image

Dragonball Z Movie 7 ~ Extreme Battle!! The Three Great Super Saiya-jin

Image Image

Some neat text from the first data page (anyone wanna translate??):

Image

Some pages:

Image Image Image Image

A character guide and a previous movie guide:

Image Image

The memorial stamp for this program and some advertisements:

Image Image

The bio for Jinzoningen 15:

Image

Goku in Planet Yardrat clothing (winter edition):

Image

A "main" character guide:

Image

A scan of this screenshot (in 4:3) and Mike's Dragon Box/FUNi comparison of the same scene:

And a cool really cool chart (I think it's a timeline chart), that I think is awesome:

Well, that's all for now. Feel free to ask any questions you have. Enjoy!!

That bottlecaps/pogs-esqe image where Goku and Gohan are winning against Vegeta and Freeza is very cool. X3

Wow, this is pretty sweet! I had no idea any of these existed.

By the way...
Would you mind scanning this proper? This is the best Dragon Ball Z artwork ever. Ever. :D

(Okay, I may be exaggerating a bit, but this is amazing.)

Agreed. I really like that image. As well as the one with Gokuh, Gohan, Vegeta, and Trunks. http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll24 ... G_1485.jpg

Is it from somewhere else, or is it just in this booklet thing?

It's also from issue #25 1992 of Weekly Jump, probably as a poster or promo image.

What I wish to know is if there's any new relevant information in those scans, or is it just same old stuff?

With the crossword, you have to connect the characters' names together, writting them out in katakana. Here's the answers:

1-down (3 squares): Muuri
2-down (four squares): Vegeta
3-down (5 squares): Son Gohan
4-down (5 squares): Son Goku
5-down (4 squares): Piccolo

1-across (5 squares): Yajirobe
2-across (4 squares): Kuririn
3-across (6 squares): Kame-sennin
4-across (4 squares): Oolong

Unconnected one (3 squares): Coola

Nice. I need to buy one of these off Ebay one of these days.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I'm really curious about that too, but I really can't tell. I really want to know if that timeline chart differs from the one in the Daizenshuu...

Rambo, I'm interested in finding out where you bought this, how much it was, and whether it was new or used?

It's quite different. It only has two timelines. One is where the androids kill everyone, Trunks goes to the past, and Cell kills Trunks and does the same (this is the central timeline). The other, the one that branches off, is the timeline with the events we see from the series. There's no attempt to deal with the issue of there being a future where Trunks is killed by Cell and one where this doesn't happen. In fact, the timeline chart shows Trunks time travelling from his meeting with Goku and co. directly to 3 years later when they are fighting No.19 and No.20, without returning to his own future, but then later on in the timeline for his future it says that Cell kills Trunks. So where did that Trunks come from? Anyway, another difference is that this timeline chart doesn't use the Age year system like the one in Daizenshuu 7, but instead treats the year of Trunks' meeting with Goku and co. as year zero and labels everything else as being a certain number of years before or after that.

I got all four on ebay, from a store located in Japan. Each program was 10$ per program, and shipping was another 10$. I'm pretty sure every copy of these out there has been used (since they were handed out to kids (un-wrapped), as they entered the film screening, right?), but these are in decent condition, all things considered. The front and back covers are a bit worn, probably from being stacked on top of each other, but the inside pages and binding are in great shape. I highly recomend picking these up, if you can.

Thanks Herms for that synopsis/comparison. This timeline chart was made about four years before the one in Daizenshuu 7 came out, so I doubt there was any collaboration in the making of each.

Shipping was another $10 EACH? If not, $50 doesn't sound bad considering how old they are.

Oops, I worded that a little wrong. Shipping for all for was another 10$ totall. So yes, I payed $50 dollars for everything, which is a very good price.

Like I said, it's the winter wear on Yardrat. They have very harsh winters.
