I didn't think the Dragonbox showed that it was shinny in the first pics.

Then how it lines up case size with everything else.

Is that Daria box set the Daria TV series from MTV? Silly bootlegs. Thank goodness for the official sets releasing next year!

Oh, that's right, Dragon Ball. *Ahem*

Nice pics. It's good to see how the box looks relative to other DVDs as well as the other bricks.

Just got my set. So glad to see Cha-La in the English version, dubbed or not, is so great to hear Cha-la as the theme song. The quality is great to. The Japanese track sounds clear as well. Great job Funi, you finally pleased my DBZ viewing pleasure.

Has anyone confirmed about the insert songs on the dub yet?

I replied to this a few pages back, but with how this thread is moving, I couldn't blame you :D I only checked episode 20 (where Kaio is telling Goku the Saiya-jin's history) and the insert song used there was removed and replaced with silence.

Okay, was just wondering. Not that I plan on watching the dub.

This will be first time I watch DBZ in Japanese (finally!). I had recently finished Dragonball in Japanese...so what better way to start out but with the dragon box.

Ah, bummer. But it's not like I'll be watching the dub for any parts with insert songs anyway. Besides, apparently they still sound great in the Japanese track!

Got mines today. I like how shiny everything is with epic prologue title smack dabbed on the boxes and book. The Dragon Book is pretty cool. My favorite segment being the History of Dragon Ball Z. Just love the mentions of other series' like Jojo and Dragon Quest. Even honoring the late Osamu Tezuka. Overall the packaging is top notch, even by FUNimation's standards on their other properties, and that's saying a lot. I was a bit....thrown off by the audio. It's been been a while since I've seen the Dragon Ball Z anime (roughly about 2 years since the Season Sets) in Japanese Mono, but from what I can recall, the audio is definitely a notch or two better than from what I remember of FUNimation's prior Dragon Ball releases. All I can say of the picture quality, not being much of technical guy, is that it's just like watching the series back when it aired. Just with better quality that preserves the colors. No saturation and bleeding colors.

I need to watch the rest of it before making any final critique, though admittedly, watching through the Saiyan arc again after just finishing the Kai version feels like a chore. The Kikuchi score helps though and feels like breath of fresh air from the constantly looped Yamamoto scores with no break for silence (I think that's a problem with a lot a modern anime today, but that's another subject). I'm also one of the few that likes the Saiyan arc filler more than the padding out of the canon material itself.

You guys are saying you got your copies in today but did you guys pay extra for shipping or just standard? I'm still at work and would like to see my copy in my mail box by tonight when I go home.

EricM wrote:Saying 96kbps is good enough for mono is an opinion. Not everyone has the same tolerances for compression noise.
I have a very low tolerance for noise, amazingly so. I can tell if a TV is on an AV input channel with no audio coming out from downstairs from the hallway upstairs.

96 to 112 k is the general standard we get on DVD for each 'side' of the Stereo track, 96 for mono doesn't overtly cause compression noise, especially for older (and relatively low quality in comparison) audio, that already has a degree of analog noise to it.

As I recall, looking at a release that everyone agrees had ULTRA HIGH END audio...

The LOTR extended editions had 3 audio tracks (ignoring commentaries of course)...

a 5.1 with 448k audio
a 6.1 with 768k audio
and a 2.0 with 192k audio

All 3 of which are considered rich amazing audio tracks, so let's break that down per track (ignoring the .1 and rounding up to single numbers.)

5.1 gets 90k per channel
6.1 gets 128k per channel
2.0 gets 96k per channel

So the ultra high quality audio track for a modern film that had amazing audio on DVD is 25% more on it's highest quality track.

Lord of the Rings gets 128k... I think we can all survive with DBZ getting 96k.

Although if you can't I'm sorry about that, there is (from what I hear, amazing) 448k audio on the R2s if you are willing to forego subtitles.

Like I said, 96k is good enough, even if it isn't what would have been preferred.

I had free shipping.

I was watching on the PS3. I started an episode then switched to English. I didn't turn the subtitles off. So they still come up. It is kinda neat hearing the English then seeing the subtitles for the Japanese language under it, comparing the two.

I only live 5 hours from RightStuf's shipping warehouse so whenever I order my shipments with free shipping, it takes 2 days. I payed for 2-day air this time around which was basically like cheap over-night delivery.

I had got my confirmation e-mail yesterday morning saying that it was shipped, checked the tracking number on UPS and found that it left Iowa at 3:15 the prior afternoon and had already arrived at the nearby mail hub in 15 hours later at 6 am and was in transit for delivery.

It all came down to how close I live and how much I paid for shipping. Believe me, I wanted this thing BADLY. As I'm sure all of you do as well ^_^

Mine has arrived.

But just waiting for 6PM to get here so I can go home.

Well if they keep this is the same as the season sets, then DBOX2 would be out in Feb.

How early does Rightstuf put products up? Was it 1 month or 2?

There is no schedule for Right Stuf 'putting products up'.

They put the listing up when they get the solicitation/sales info.

That would be a good Daizex contest! .WAV rips of the original R2 set vs. the US Dragonbox. Guess them all, win a prize. :)

But godofchaos is preemptively barred from the festivities. :P

I picked up my set today also.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but in case you're curious, the episode previews are after the credits, as it was on the original Dragon Box.

Aside from the excellent video quality, it's great to finally have a DVD release that uses the original Japanese episode titles on the menus.

I would hope so, since that's where they belong. If they moved those, I'd be a little pissed. :P
