If I say "Saiyan" a la FUNimation (which I refuse to), then I'm saying the word wrong and all the purists (myself included!) have a problem with it.

If I say "Saiya-jin", all the FUNimation loyalists troll me on YouTube with personal comments about my mother.

If I say "Saiyan" correctly, NO CAMP can accept it.

FML.
I'm not a "camp" but I accept it. I say "Saiyan" correctly almost all the time. The only time I say it the dub way is when I'm around people who can't pick up what I mean based on context and the only time I say it the Japanese way is when speaking to Japanese people in Japanese.

I don't see what's so wrong with it. :?

I feel like you just read my mind. I refuse to say "Say-yan" because it's just so wrong, so I usually stick with either Saiya-jin or "Sigh-yan". I do get questioned by FUNimation fans when I use Saiya-jin, because apparently they think I think I'm better than them, or some such thing. I'm not really sure where that comes from, maybe because they're unfamiliar with it? Man, I'm such an elitist.

Anyway, I've been saying "Sigh-yan" a lot more lately, and we're even debating about switching over to using Saiyan on Kanzentai, but my biggest problem with writing it that way is I know most people won't pronounce it correctly. However, I'm not sure why someone would say it's "so horrible to say and even worse to listen to". That just makes me think that you've had the wrong pronunciation pounded into your brain for so long by FUNimation that you consider the proper pronunciation just plain wrong. In the opposite vain, I cringe everytime I hear someone say "Say-yan". Now that's just plain wrong. I just don't understand why someone, like Mike or myself, can't use the proper translation that FUNimation uses, but instead pronounce it correctly. Is there any logic behind saying we can't do that? Does that mean we're in the wrong for doing something correctly?

I would do anything for a new game or Kai to pronounce "Saiyan" correctly...

Now that I think about it, I don't say "Sigh-yan" as much as I say "Sigh-an." I mean, the "y" in "yan" is there and it is pronounced, but it's not stressed all that much when I say it.

I dunno. Maybe I'll post a new video this week on YouTube about "Attack of the Saiyans" and you'll hear what I mean. Maybe I'll get some intersting comments, too.

The Filipino English dub called them "SIGH-YANS", but emphasis on "YAN".

"This is the end of the sigh-YANS!"

What a hilariously bad dub that was.

Wierd, it has never occurred to me to pronounce it that way. I just think "sighin'." FUNimation's mispronunciation("sayin'") doesn't even put emphasis on the Y.

One thing about Cell's personality that we don't really see until later is that he has quite a few things in common with Piccolo Daimao. In particular, they both say that their greatest joy is seeing people's faces twisted in fear.

On his purpose, Cell says in volume 33 that though he was created to kill Goku, this goal holds no particular meaning for him.

The amount of fan service in the anniversary special bugs me. It feels out of place.
The pacing is kinda awful too.

Good podcast. I hope Jeff seeing these bits before doesn't suck the fun out of it too much.

The third TV daizenshuu says that the director of the anniversary special had a thing for Bulma, so that's why there's so much Bulma fanservice in it.

@Hujio: Damn, even the Kanzentai will get funimationized?

I don't think it's right to forbid Saiya-jin, because the funi fans are driven crazy because of that......

It's rudiculous like speaking Latin with english pronounciation

"Saiyan" isn't a Funi thing. It's been used as the romanization of "Saiya-jin" on Japanese merchandise years before Funi started dubbing the show.

In fact, sometimes the Japanese products would write "Saiyan" in JAPANESE.

This Super Saiyan Brolli toy for example.

One of the attacks from "Attack of the Saiyans" is also written like that..."Saiyan Attack", I think.

Not to sound like an asshole, but what's with the irregular podcast schedules we're having in the recent weeks?

The podcast got delays and skipped weeks more than the previous years!

Also, the recent Saiyan Blood.

Also, it's, well, proper English. Same as how I use the proper Norwegian term "Saiyaner" even though no official translation has ever done so - it's not a matter of inventing a new term, but changing the Japanese term to it's equivalent in whatever language you're translating to.

Also, I'll just mention that I've always pronounced "Saiyan" correctly since first seeing the word written. It's obvious that's the way it should be pronounced from the way it's written - even when all I had was those crappy Ocean-dub only DVDs, I pronounced it right, not picking up on the fact that the dub mispronounced it.

One scene comes to mind. The one where he was telling Trunks the purpose of the Cell Games. To him, the goal was to see the terrified looks on people's faces. It's funny because Trunks gives him the terrified look he was going for.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I know that line is from the manga, but it sounded like any lame joke comes from FUNimation's dub.

As for "Saiyan", the Arabic dub pronunce it the correct way, exept they say "Saiyans" for both singluar and plural.
