Okay, fine, let's excuse deceptive wordplay. How about doctored screencaps with added grain? Was that "bad advertising?"

They were making their product seem better than it actually was. So...... yeah I guess it was bad advertising.

Err...no. Deception doesn't always mean a 'scam', it simply means propagating misinformation. FUNimation obviously was disseminating incorrect information. We nailed them numerous time as a community on that matter. And every time they had to readjust their story. So, either they were purposefully misleading people (and expecting people not to see the holes in their logic, i.e. - thinking they're stupid), or they themselves were too damned stupid to know any better. I honestly don't believe the latter is a possibility. Not to mention the fact that they doctored footage in their "Rebirth of DragonBall Z" featurette (gee, notice how that disappeared from all the later releases despite being a "Part I"?)
Bear in mind that some people liked the cropping and just wanted to buy the series no matter how it was presented.
It's just the hardcore fans who were pissed that FUNi said that the cropping gained more picture (it did, but a lot was lost in the process however).
What is a 'hardcore' fan? Someone like me who imports the series? Someone like Mike who doesn't do that, but buys every copy of Movie 1 known to man? Someone who bought every single FUNimation single, then the season sets and now the DragonBox releases? 'Hardcore' fan is a bullshit term and masturbatory at best.

The truth of the matter is, people who cared about the artistic integrity of the series, or people who paid full attention to the visuals of the show and knew it wasn't made for the format (and I even mean people who've never seen the show, you can just tell unless you're oblivious), or people who know why widescreen televisions were made to begin with (hint: it wasn't so everything could be stretched or cropped)...those are some (but not all) of the people who cared about the whole cropping mess.

As for the 'gain more picture' bullshit...3 years later and people are still spouting that? Really? Oi...

This is just sad now. Piccolo Daimaoh, you must realize that you're spouting nonsense by now - you're just making yourself look even stupider. Which, apparently, you don't mind. :?

Okay last thing. I acknowledge that FUNimation lied about the cropping and remastering. It was downright bad, I even hated it. We may not ever find out why FUNi did this, but one thing is for sure: They lied about the cropping so they could make money. They treated us like idiots, they thought we were stupid enough to buy the Season Sets, calling it the "definitive release" (and it worked, they sold quite well).

What annoys me about the topic sentence is the implication that American cartoons are for tards, not like gororiousu Japanu animu...u.

We actually had a couple good examples of subtle/complex North American cartoons (and there are loads of other examples). The point here is that FUNi brought over a show with a small amount of subtly and complex themes, and completely whitewashed it, because they think "American toons are for tards".

Whoops, sorry. I meant: "we may never find out why FUNi cropped and "remastered" the series the way they did, but we at least know they lied about it."

You can't "win" a thread. It's not a game of Mario Kart.

But we do know why they lied about it! That was never a mystery. You, yourself have said several times even: they lied to make us buy it. That is why they lied. They didn't lie to us because someone kidnapped their families, they didn't lie because their plane was hijacked, they are not Harrison Ford - they lied because they thought we were stupid enough to believe them.

I have a question about the "lies". Can someone list the marketing lines and how they were lies. And I mean actually lies, not "This is the greatest product of ever and nothing else has ever or will ever be better then this in all of the multiverse" type of lies.

The couple of things that I see people talking about is:

The cropping. But did we recieve more than we lost?

The remastering. Did they actually do a remastering process?

The way it was meant to be seen. This falls in line with "Greatest under the Heavens".

Also, you don't have to think someone's an idiot to lie to them. I lie to smart people all the time.

We broke down and covered quite a few in our recent feature prior to the Dragon Box releases.

You're not understanding me correctly.

That's not what you "said". That may be what you meant but you said something else. It's really important to say what you mean - otherwise you look like a complete moron.

And we're pretty sure we know why they did it too: film damage. Despite FUNi saying they went back to "the original Japanese film masters" they clearly used a later generation film (previous to this release, they used only digifilm). Especially on the first few seasons we can see a lot of damage in the image. It's probably also why the 'remastering' was done, to try and cover up these faults.
