DragonBall Anime Illustration Collection: The Golden Warrior

Post by Hujio » Fri Apr 02, 2010 4:32 pm

I know that there was already a thread discussing these recent books, but it got a little off-topic... stupid Uranai book. Anyway, I just posted this over on Kanzentai, but I figured I'd share it with all you fine folks at Daizenshuu EX as well. We finally have some information about the new illustration book from this months issue of V-Jump:
DragonBall Anime Illustration Collection: The Golden Warrior

The path of Son Goku's adventures and battles!!

From his boyhood up to Super Saiyan 4, Goku's growth is followed through over 100 illustrations! Featuring numerous illustrations, such as those drawn for the TV series or the movie books, you can see Goku's whole history!!

Contents include: movie posters/drawings made for magazines like Weekly Jump, V-Jump, etc., interviews with the different generations of character designers with illustration explanations, etc.; it's a deluxe archive edition!!
100+ illustrations! Goku! Interviews! A deluxe archive edition! I don't know about you, but I'm super excited about this new illustration book! But more importantly, what does everyone else think?

I'm also excited, espicially for these interviews.

More work for you, though. :p

Something tells me I'd be a bit more excited if it didn't center around Goku, but still, interviews. :D Those are always nice to read.

I'm hoping that if this is a success, they'll do some more, probably focused on other major characters. I mean, there are tons of images out there they could use. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Ugh. I'm in a minority about this, but I really could care less about interviews. I just want art!

Can't wait for the Tenshinhan edition!

But seriously, this seems like it will be awesome. Will there be "never before seen" new illustrations? Even if there aren't, still should be a pretty cool book

I'm looking forward to the movie posters, they were printed far to small in the Daizenshuu, hopefully that won't be the case here.

Since it's mainly an artbook, I think Viz will localize it as part of their "Art of SJ" line.

By "character designers" they mean the anime, right?

Yeah, presumably. Toriyama did do some character designs for the anime, but if he was among the people being interviewed they'd probably mention him specifically.

*preorders*

I can't wait, do we know what size this will be though? I'd love (as unlikely as it is) a Daizenshuu-size book.

Will it just be composed of the design sheets used for the anime and movies or will there actually be some new art in it?

I'm curious about what's in it, but it's definitely not my must have.

I'm also disappointed that it focuses so much on Goku. Count me as another vote for further volumes on the supporting cast.

(How many other shows/franchises are like DB/Z? I personally can't think of another where the supporting cast gets as much if not more love from fandom than the main character)

Just thought I'd throw up the books cover, for those of you that didn't already see it on Kanzentai.

I think it's simple, but nice. I guess there's not much else to say about it.

They could have put more emphasis on the "golden," like, a gold background. And maybe a handful of SSJ Goku shots, instead of a huge, zoomed in one.

It's a little too simple.

It looks kinda awkward. :/ And it seems like it's been done using Flash.
Well, we mustn't judge a book by its cover as they say... so let's see what's inside first.
Not that I'll be buying it anyways. :P
