Ramza's VHS copy (which that was taken from) is all I'm aware of. I'm sure someone has a higher-quality version, but they sure haven't shared it in all the years I've been a fan and online.

Would I be able to snag the original file from one of you guys (Hujio or Yourself)? It would be greatly appreciated :D

I know exactly what you're referring to (I have a copy), but do you know any additional information about it. Like, when did it actually air?

The file I have is the file that's on the site, and I don't believe Mike downloaded it himself. I also don't believe Ramza ever uploaded the entire thing, just that 10 minute clip. However, without giving too much away, I did just get a little higher quality clips from someone in my e-mail. Again it isn't the whole thing, but it's not as painful to watch.

Heath, where do I download the 10-minute clip for the "lost" DBZ TV Special? Ramza had it before.

Unfortunately no, I only randomly bumped into it on youtube and had little information about it. Apart from what's obvious from watching it, I don't know more. I'm sorry.

That sounds very interesting, will we be able to feast our eyes on such a thing?

A few people, myself included, engaged kei17 in a debate about it. He...didn't really give anything of substance, to me, to support his claim. Then he didn't post about it again. If you want to trust his views, then Toei made the entire series on 35mm film then downprinted it to 16mm and destroyed the 35mm masters (except a small portion of the Freeza arc), because apparently they dug wasting money. As a matter of fact, he stated all anime was done on 35mm at some point (despite the fact that I couldn't find anything or anyone that shared this view). A different master was then sent to every television station, meaning no two masters would be exactly the same in terms of color fidelity, however his EP VHS recordings that were recorded with unknown equipment/configurations/etc. and stored under unknown conditions for 20 years are his proof that the broadcast looked different and superior compared to the DragonBoxes.

Oh, and he emailed Toei once and they replied in a vague manner about the masters not being in perfect shape. Nevermind that the Japanese culture tends to be self-deprecating and they could have meant damned near anything by that. :P

So...yeah. Keep in mind that in 10 years+ of online fandom, he's the only person to ever have said any of the above. And it's not like we don't have people from all over the world, Japan included.

Well huh.

Good enough for me. I think there's still a bit of blind trust being put in the Dragon Box colors across the fandom, especially given that colors used in promotional material from back in the day don't all line up, but it's not hurting anything and I don't have the industry or technical knowledge to really argue otherwise.

You forgot to mention that Dragon Ball GT was broadcast in stereo, yet the Dragon Boxes have mono audio.

Also, did the episode preview move to after the credits for GT? I have the fansubs for the first four episodes, and I could have sworn they were in the same place as the other two series, but since I don't have them with me, I can't check. Or did the shift happen at some point during the series?

Pretty sure I know where some of my GT raw/fansub VHSes are. I can check tomorrow if no-one else takes a look before then.

It really is a shame about those "lost" special previews for the next series. I guess it would be ridiculous to hold out hope that FUNi would somehow acquire them for their domestic release.

It was uploaded by Peckingduck, right (or Peckingdbz as I think he went by sometimes)? Here is what seems to be his email: pekin@pio.jp I know he has uploaded tons of rare videos recorded straight from broadcasts in Japan, so if he is contactable and willing to help he might have some good stuff.

And is your copy of the Cell Saga Review video one with the red text and "for YouTube ver." text? 'Cause that's all I've got...

That's the one! I totally forgot his nickname. His Youtube account is gone, isn't it? Could he be around Niko Niko Douga?

OK...! So it took me a while, but I dug up some of our GT fansubs :P. I checked out episodes from two far-away points in the series -- Episode 4 and Episode 45.

Episode 4 was neat because it had one of those split next-episode previews. When the second half of the episode ended, it went to a commercial break. It came back to a short next-episode preview for Episode 5, which immediately ran into a short preview for the 10th anniversary movie (showing scenes and saying they were giving away 500 tickets for folks who wrote in). Immediately after this, it segued into "Hitori ja nai" (the [first] closing theme).

Episode 45 was set up the exact same way, but was traditional. When the second half of the episode ended, it went to a commercial break. It came back to the next-episode preview for Episode 46, and immediately segued into "Blue Velvet" (the [third] closing theme).

For what it's worth, I'll mention that the portuguese airings of Dragon Ball GT also have the next episode previews before the endings.
