'Anime only' is an archaic phraseology when it comes to Dragon Ball. It's best to use, at the most general, 'Dragon Ball Z only'. Otherwise only runs the risk of confusing those who might look to Dragon Ball Kai for this information.Kid Buu wrote:I would take note on the battles that are filler. For example

Also, I would put DBZ Movie 3 instead of just Movie 3 so it doesn't sound to vague. People might think your talking about DB Movie 3.

Re: The Dragon Ball Wiki
Hmm, I'm not sure I agree. "Dragon Ball Z only" might imply to those who don't know better that it happened in Dragon Ball Z as opposed to DB or DBGT. Regardless of Kai, Yamucha vs. Reacoom is still anime only.

Re: The Dragon Ball Wiki
I understand where you're coming from, but I'm not entirely willing to concede that 'anime only' is the best choice (of course, now I'm implying you are saying such, which I mean not to). If we discard the idea of simply being 'general', tossing in '(Dragon Ball Z #9X-9X)' would work as a clean signal to the reader that said event is exclusive to that telling. Then again, that sets us up for having to cite similar things for everything else...which I guess is kind of the point anyhow?Gaffer Tape wrote:Hmm, I'm not sure I agree. How about "Dude VS Brah (filler)"? I think that's a way to go, as there still are instances of filler in Kai.

Would asterisk work? For example,
Yamcha vs Recoome*
*This battle only occurred in the anime adaption of Dragon Ball Z, it would later be omitted for the Dragon Ball Kai adaption.
^Something along the lines of that maybe?

Re: The Dragon Ball Wiki
But not every instance is retained. Gohan returns to fight final form Freeza in both Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Kai, but not Dragon Ball the comic. The Ginyû Special Force fight Yamcha's team on Planet Kaiô in Dragon Ball Z but not Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball Kai.B wrote:How about "Dude VS Brah (filler)"? I believe there are Wikis that use a drop-down function from asterisks that bring in small notes of information, but I don't know if it can be done on Wikia.

Actually, you could probably use a citation (typically a little blue number at the end of the sentence). Once clicked it will immediately take on to the bottom of the page and list the full citation (like, "45. Dragon Ball Z episode #XX[-XX]").Kid Buu wrote:Would asterisk work? For example,

Re: The Dragon Ball Wiki
I disagree. If used properly, "anime only" refers to anything that's unique to the anime and wasn't in the manga. If it really matters which anime something did or didn't appear in, then it probably requires a lot more detail than a simple parenthetical phrase anyway.JulieYBM wrote:'Anime only' is an archaic phraseology when it comes to Dragon Ball. Though I prefer the slightly different term "anime original" that appears in a lot of Japanese sources.

The timing was just too fortuitous to pass up. A puzzled user just now posted a thread in the Questions section about Daiz, a member of Tullece's gang from Movie 3, about some bizarre info he read on, you guessed it, the DB Wikia:
"Note he is a saiyan who tail got cut off long time ago it's seeing in the credits."
Wow. The actual line itself makes it all the more hideous:
This is our number one, authoritative source for Dragon Ball information, people. This is our source.

I'm sorry. I know that came across as snarky, and it certainly was. Sometimes it's just hard not to be what with what we see there on a constant basis. Believe me, I do admire that you're trying to clean things up, and I continue to wish you the best of luck.

Currently I'm making a huge overhaul to the Saiyan article http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Saiyan
You'll notice I've removed false info and added new, cited information. I still have more to go as well.

Great. See, that's what I was talking about before --- making sure that the information in the articles is accurate. This should be the number one priority at DB wikia.SSJGoku93 wrote: Currently I'm making a huge overhaul to the Saiyan article http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Saiyan

I don't feel like going through the whole article right now, so I'll just comment on the name origin section.SSJGoku93 wrote:Currently I'm making a huge overhaul to the Saiyan article http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Saiyan

This explanation isn't wrong, but it's rather garbled and unnecessarily confusing. First, "Japanese anagram of...Japanese for vegetable" is redundant. I'm not too clear on what exactly is meant by a "Japanese anagram" and don't see how that adds anything not established by saying that it is an anagram of the Japanese word for vegetable. The name is a Japanese anagram of yasai (野菜), which is Japanese for vegetable, followed by the suffix jin (人 or じん) which is a Japanese suffix for person. This essentially means that "Saiya-jin" and "Saiyan" stand for "vegetable person". (For comparison, American (citizen) is translated as Amerika-jin). Essentially, "Saiyan" is a more direct English translation of the word.
More importantly, saying that Saiyan essentially stands for "vegetable person" is like saying that Videl "stands for" devil. Saiyan is a pun on the Japanese word for vegetable, and an anagram of it, but it is not the word itself. A more accurate statement would be to explain that "Saiyan" is basically a Japanese equivalent to "Tablevegeians", or something along those lines.
Man, that's quite a sentence. "All names of Saiyan ancestry [...] are named using puns on various vegetables" First, how can a name have ancestry? Do names reproduce? Second, the names are named after vegetables? So a Saiyan's name has its own name? Talk about metaphysical. OK, so I'd assume the person meant something along the lines of "The names of all people of Saiyan ancestry are puns on vegetables", though even this isn't correct, since people like Trunks or Goten don't have vegetable-based puns. All names of Saiyan ancestry that appear in the series and related movies are named using puns on various vegetables. As a side note: a common racial slur towards Saiyans by Frieza and most of his family and empire is "monkey" or "ape".
What the heck does that comment about racial slurs have to do with the rest of the paragraph? It's not related to the origin of the name "Saiyan", so it should either be deleted or moved to another part of the article.

Re: The Dragon Ball Wiki
Behh, not to be rude toward you SSJGoku93, but most members on these boards really don't take the Dragon Ball Wiki very seriously. The main problem is that most of the editors there seem to only be tuned into and accept Dragon Ball if it's in the Funi Dub, and the Funi dub has fucked the original info up so much that no Funi-based English editor is taken seriously. There are other sources for Dragon Ball in English, and manga is one of them. Also this website as well as Kanzentai are both great sources for original Dragon Ball information.
So as others have said, I think that the Dragon Ball Wiki should more be a source for FUNI's version of Dragon Ball and not the original series from Japan.
