Vegeta's hair
What is the deal with it? During the Saiyan arc they recolored it to black, opposed to brown but in most recent episodes his hair is almost light brown, probably even lighter than in DBZ. Are the artists getting lazy or something?
Re: Vegeta's hair
It was probably brown in the original scenes and just more noticeable now that they're using brighter digital coloration.

Re: Vegeta's hair
I guess because they realized that in all of their newly animated footage his hair is brown, as well as in the old animation, so they finally stopped inconsistently recoloring it black, which makes it inconsistent with the new animation (non-traced) and the old footage used.

But isn't consistent with the manga, which they are trying to replicate.

Re: Vegeta's hair
Well...not color wise. Although I'd love to see some of the characters in their original manga colors. (Aw yeah Blue Karin and White Kaio!)Senzu_Bean wrote:But isn't consistent with the manga, which they are trying to replicate.

Re: Vegeta's hair
Yeah, but they aren't redrawing every shot, so there are still shots that use old footage and have him with brown hair, so trying to make his hair black in the reanimated scenes just makes it inconsistent with itself.Senzu_Bean wrote:But isn't consistent with the manga, which they are trying to replicate.

Re: Vegeta's hair
How could the ink and paint people be called lazy for painting it brown? Is the brown paint closer than the black paint? They still would have to paint his hair either way...
Sorry for being an ass. My real answer, I think it's a combination of the evolution of the character design and Toei taking certain liberties with the colors.

Re: Vegeta's hair
I find that Toei is one of the worst when it comes to coloring series as they were intended (manga colors and all). But, Toei has done things worse in the past, so I suppose it can't be helped. Laziness doesn't help things, either.

It's kind of hard to be consistent with colors when the creator himself isn't.

Re: Vegeta's hair
All pure-blooded Saiyans hair are black, everything that isn't black is just errors.
Re: Vegeta's hair
While that is true, Toei has done this even with series that stay with a consistent color (when color is shown). It's just one part of that laziness, not willing to do the research.
And that is true, Raditz, Nappa ('s eyebrows), Vegeta, Goku, Bardock, etc all had black hair.

Re: Vegeta's hair
I've always felt Toriyama regretted that rule, didn't he even tell Toei in the Bardock sketches he didn't really care if they wanted to vary the hair color?

Re: Vegeta's hair
I thought the Bardock special was when he informed Toei of the rule, when their initial designs had different hair colours?Blue wrote:I've always felt Toriyama regretted that rule, didn't he even tell Toei in the Bardock sketches he didn't really care if they wanted to vary the hair color?

Re: Vegeta's hair
If I recall correctly, his notes said that the idea he had always had in his head was that they all had black hair, and he may have said in reply to seeing their designs with different hair colours, but he also said "I always saw Saiyans as having black hair, but if you'd like to have them have different hair colour to make them easier to distinguish, that's okay too".

Yeah that's the quote I'm talking about, thanks. Reading it over it just kind of seems like the good ol' "eeeeh whatever" Toriyama attitude.Ashy-kun wrote:If I recall correctly, his notes said that the idea he had always had in his head was that they all had black hair, and he may have said in reply to seeing their designs with different hair colours, but he also said "I always saw Saiyans as having black hair, but if you'd like to have them have different hair colour to make them easier to distinguish, that's okay too".

I think more likely he's just being polite there. After all, it's not his work in that case, and of course, there's also the fact that he was working on other pieces here and there too.
