"DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
Y'know, you really need to stop constantly asserting your opinion on everybody else, Mr. Mark.

You accused RazorX of being delusional because he praised Kelamis, don't be a hypocrite, or stay away from the topic if you don't want read or debate about how bad the Z dub is.

I like how some of us agree on some things sometimes, but then totally disagree on other things, and then when we get to the things we disagree with each other on, we totally throw the person we sort of agreed with on the other stuff under the bus until it becomes convenient to agree with them on something else.

Actually, I said he was delusional for saying stuff like the Westwood dub wasn't rushed and sloppily done. Sure, we can't really be objective about the actual results, but we can't argue that it wasn't rushed and slapped together.MR.Mark wrote:You accused RazorX of being delusional because he praised Kelamis, don't be a hypocrite, or stay away from the topic if you don't want read or debate about how bad the Z dub is.

Let's compromise: both dubs were rushed and terrible!!
Because...they actually were.
Not that this topic is about the quality of the two Dragon Ball Z dubs, but rather the FUNimation Dragon Ball Kai dub.

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
So glad to hear that they're going to be making Ginyu Force Kai. I mean, the original was good in that it gave us the deep, fascinating back story of how the Ginyu Force came together, but it was hurt by the episodes-long posing sessions. I mean, one half-hour posing rehearsal took 20 episodes! Good to see that it will be trimmed down....
Wait a minute, if Ginyu is the one editing the series, doesn't that mean it'll probably end up just the opposite, in that all the action scenes will be cut and only the posing sessions will remain?!
Noooooo!
....
But seriously, I was a bit surprised that they broke the fourth wall in the preview, but I still got a laugh out of it.

The Gokuh-like speech is actually Schemmel's doing, and not just what's written in the script. I asked him about it on Facebook.Metalwario64 wrote:Schemmel did great here too, especially in the delivery of the "I haf'ta figure that you're not all that bad." line, and the "y'know... Yeah, I'm sure Schemmel at this point knows enough about Goku's character to change his speech patterns and such to fit more for the character.linkdude20002001 wrote:The Gokuh-like speech is actually Schemmel's doing, and not just what's written in the script. Could go either way. It could be argued that Ayres' yelling sounds more like a woman than a man, while Newstone's menace could be argued that it sounds more like a man than a woman. Generally it is not easy to tell which gender is doing the voice for both of them.MR.Mark wrote: But enough of her, er, "femininity" still came out that I wasn't fooled by what sex was doing the voice.
We can argue that the Westwood/Ocean dub was not rushed and with stronger evidence than otherwise because we, or at least I, know that the Ocean dub ran on batches of episodes. There were gaps in between sagas. For example, new episodes of the Ocean dub stopped at the episode The Cell Games and then there were many reruns of those Android-Perfect Cell episodes before new episodes of the Cell Games were received by Cartoon Network. Ocean episodes stopped at certain points throughout the series and had reruns until new episodes came in. Sometimes we had to wait months for new episodes, in order to give Ocean time to produce them.jjgp1112 wrote:Actually, I said he was delusional for saying stuff like the Westwood dub wasn't rushed and sloppily done. It's delusional to think that Ocean didn't have pauses in their airing of DBZ episodes 108-276. You may have picked up on the ridiculous internet rumour about this supposed "rush job." Let me guess, it's from the same source which incorrectly assumed the Ocean dub was completed in a year....youtube? It's absurd. I don't know why people give that rumour any consideration at all.

More like he's making up for lost ground by sneaking in lapsed speech in an effort to compensate for his failure in tone or delivery. Too little, too late.jjgp1112 wrote:Yeah, I'm sure Schemmel at this point knows enough about Goku's character to change his speech patterns and such to fit more for the character.linkdude20002001 wrote:The Gokuh-like speech is actually Schemmel's doing, and not just what's written in the script. He's probably just been reading criticisms of his work on the character. I don't see any evidence of him understanding the character on his own.

Well there ya go, right from the man himself, he studied his character, that's good to know. It certainly explains his improvement in Kai.linkdude20002001 wrote:The Gokuh-like speech is actually Schemmel's doing, and not just what's written in the script. More so with Ayres, though with most of his recent performance, there's no doubt he's male. Newstone always sounded like a women, creepy at times, but still a women, and still wrong for Freeza.RazorX wrote:Generally it is not easy to tell which gender is doing the voice for both of them.

Come on, you're really reaching for these put-downs now. He actually shows some understanding of the character and you still can't manage to express anything but negativity.penguintruth wrote:More like he's making up for lost ground by sneaking in lapsed speech in an effort to compensate for his failure in tone or delivery. As a mod, I'm now asking you officially and nicely to lay off. You're sounding like a broken record and it's getting on people's nerves. Even others who don't necessarily prefer the dub or Schemmel's work.

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I'm actually gonna have to agree with Penguintruth. Not necessarily on the delivery part, but it's clear he's only caring about the accent because people have called him on it. That, or someone else scripted it that way and he's taking credit for the work.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I've heard from the voice actors that it was rushed. I can't remember which actor, but I do remember it being quite rushed. More so than FUNimation's dub even. And the show was dubbed in about two years time, while FUNi's in about four.RazorX wrote:We can argue that the Westwood/Ocean dub was not rushed and with stronger evidence than otherwise because we, or at least I, know that the Ocean dub ran on batches of episodes. I haven't even gotten to the Vegeta vs. Zarbon fight on my DVR recordings. I feel all behind now. I guess I'll catch up eventually. But if I do have something to contribute then I'm gonna be another person who thinks Chris Ayres is good as Freeza. I like Linda Young but I think Ayres does the character better.
