This is the last thing I'm going to post in regards to GT since I'm getting off-topic, but DBZ doesn't exactly make a whole lot of sense either. Just look at the Boo arc.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:I don't think anyone is literally saying that GT makes no sense (that it's incomprehensible). I'm actually a pretty big fan of the Boo arc, so I never sat there thinking "Toriyama, what the fuck are you thinking?!" while reading that arc. The plot in GT, however, seemed almost nonsensical at times, to me anyway.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:This is the last thing I'm going to post in regards to GT since I'm getting off-topic, but DBZ doesn't exactly make a whole lot of sense either. I'm also pretty apathetic towards Bra, since she's basically a background character and we didn't see enough of a character to base an opinion of her. So yeah, she's just another female character to put into another hentai manga, and that's all her role will ever be.

Re: Bra
The problem is that the things Bra is good for are the things no Dragon Ball series would ever indulge in for an extended period of time. She's basically a sitcom character. We've seen goofball Chuck Avery comedy in the series but we rarely see down to earth, sitcom style comedy. Episode 288 of DBZ is an example of that kind of slice of life moment devoid of (most) superheroics. The majority of Bra's scenes in GT, particularly when Vegeta gets involved, are basically Dragon Ball: The Sitcom. And they're arguably the best moments GT has to offer. If GT had more of that then Bra would have been more relevant. I'd also argue that GT would have been better.

Re: Bra
I liken her to a young Bulma. Or she has the potential to be. Ie. A non fighter main supporting character. Definitely not good for nothing if she has her mother's smarts and her father's fiery will.

I'd actually argue that all three series would have been better. I know that Z episodes 117, 125, the pre-Cell Games and Great Saiyaman material, and GT episode 2 receive a lot of re-watches from me.TonyTheTiger wrote:The majority of Bra's scenes in GT, particularly when Vegeta gets involved, are basically Dragon Ball: The Sitcom. Dragon Ball: The Sitcom is a great show.

Re: Bra
Only in the daizenshuu... I mean, the animators of GT obviously meant for her to be older. Otherwise the clothing wouldn't make sense, and neither did the flirting by those two bikers. The Time Traveller wrote:How old is she again?10?Zephyr wrote:Look at her outfit. Also, if you're 10 you're too young to go shopping for clothing and liking it... right? That's a teen thing.
Re: Bra
Didn't GT set up a date? If so the show dictated she was 10 not just a guide book. In which case the GT writers are just being forgetful. As for shopping for clothes and liking it, I know a lot of little girls that enjoy that kind of thing so...I don't think so. It makes me wonder if this is the kind of thing that was responsible for the dub changing when GT took place.

Re: Bra
No, there's nothing in the series itself that indicates when it takes place. Toriyama was the one who designed Bra's GT appearance along with the rest of the main cast, but there's nothing to indicate he designed them with any specific ages in mind. The reproductions of his character designs in the GT Perfect Files are just referred to as the characters "several years later".Blue wrote:Didn't GT set up a date? Re: Bra
It wasn't the dub, it was old advertisements and whatnot. FUNimation's attempted date change was never referenced in their dub.Blue wrote:dub changing when GT took place.

Re: Bra
So does this mean GT never had a date set in stone? Or it did but the characters ages were never revealed and one had to go and do the math for themselves? Sorry about this, I'm not good with dates in general even more so when they involve a portion of the show I rarely watch.Herms wrote:No, there's nothing in the series itself that indicates when it takes place. Re: Bra
Officially GT begins in Age 789, five years after the end of Z. That's said in the GT Perfect Files and the GT Dragon Box. It's not clear when this was decided upon though, which may explain the character designs not necessarily matching their ages. Although personally I've never had much of a problem with them. Like TripleRach has said a few times, Bra in GT may dress like a teenager, but she pretty much has the figure of a little girl. And does Pan in GT (age 10) really look any older than Gohan does at the Cell Games (age 11)?Blue wrote:So does this mean GT never had a date set in stone? Re: Bra
Ah I gotcha now, thanks. But wow, as Bura stated that adds a whole other level of creepiness to a bunch of teenage boys hitting on Bra.

Re: Bra
Barely, if at all. People always say she looks like a teenager, but...I don't see it. She's more or less the same as Gohan at the Cell games (of course, the games called him "Teen Gohan", too).Herms wrote:And does Pan in GT (age 10) really look any older than Gohan does at the Cell Games (age 11)?

She obviously takes after Bulma.Blue wrote:Ah I gotcha now, thanks. But wow, as Bura stated that adds a whole other level of creepiness to a bunch of teenage boys hitting on Bra.

Re: Bra
I'm sorry, I can't fathom how Bra can be 9 years old. The 5 year thing has to be a mistake just based on how she dresses and how her scenes unfold. I can't rationalize it any other way. Anime or not, there's no way in hell she was meant to be anything younger than a teenager. It all of a sudden makes her attitude really out of place, Vegeta into the worst father ever, and males of driving age into pedophiles. It's too bizarre to accept. So either Toei forgot her age and just ran with her being a teenager despite it only being 5 years or the official time frame given is just wrong.
