Re: Earth's Special Forces
That was really impressive! Those models look absolutely fantastic for a non professional group.
Re: Earth's Special Forces
New Piccolo model.

Re: Earth's Special Forces
Haha, I was going to post that, but you got here first, good stuff. Awesome work from GodGundam and Enix.
I love the clever scripting the team have done, it greatly reduces the wonky defomation, that the old quake1/halflife .mdl format suffers from.

This is pretty cool. The only downside to this is Jeice's hair. When he flips it, it looks kind of like a block.
Re: Earth's Special Forces
Yeah, there were some complaints about it on ESF forums. In any case this was just a sequence of model's moves and I doubt you'll see that part of Jhees' hair in the actual game (unless you're gonna be able to do the dance, which I highly doubt).funrush wrote:This is pretty cool. Are those models completely from the ground up? Cause they're really great.

Re: Earth's Special Forces
It's quite possibly these are drastically altered Budokai models, I mean. Of course the textures are different and clearly the model itself is different now. But AA and bloom can kind of hide all of the faults it may have.
Re: Earth's Special Forces
Well, it's nothing like that AFAIK. All ESF models are made from scratch.Luke Groundwalker wrote:It's quite possibly these are drastically altered Budokai models, I mean. Re: Earth's Special Forces
Definetely from the ground up, they have a higher polycount for one. Also these guys have been doing this mod for nearly 10 years and I think by now they've got the skills to make models of that caliber from scratch. Second, both the ESF and ZEQ2 teams actively discourage ripping commercial models and posting them on their respective forums.
10 years ago when Bid for Power got legal notice from Funimation, it put the wind up a lot of modders. It's funny though, they never really went after the Mugen character makers who did characters and games with sprites and sound directly ripped from the arcade and console games.
One other thing I just noticed, Piccolo has 3 fingers and a thumb just like in the manga, to remove the fourth THAT cleanly, usually takes more skill and effort than what a lazy arse who just rips models possesess.

Re: Earth's Special Forces
Whoa! I hadn't even noticed Piccolo's fingers. If that's not awesome attention to detail, I don't know what is.

Re: Earth's Special Forces
Glad to see ESF is still alive and kickin'. Hard to believe I've been following this mod for nearly a decade. The new models look fantastic! Half-Life models are a dying art form, but the ESF team always manages to outdo themselves. I'm also impressed with how they've managed to bend GoldSrc to their will in recent updates. Hope we get news about the next release soon.

Re: Earth's Special Forces
Those are all looking pretty great quality.
The ice one with the red ribbon submarine reminded me of that one raging blast one with the ship, but I liked the submarine better!
The desert duel somehow looks to me though like it's engulfed in a cave.
The cell games one looks the best. I just love the colors on that one.

Colors are nice, but it's missing the dirt under the ring, and its got too much green...TRL wrote:The cell games one looks the best. I just love the colors on that one.
Cell blasted the area to clean and flatten it, so there should be dirt under the fixture. The surrounding area should also be mostly brown once you wander away from the ring itself. Once Cell destroys the ring, they move a little bit away from the hole and the scenery becomes more like a desert...so where is it in the background? =P

Re: Earth's Special Forces
This is probably as close as where going to get of a western made DBZ game. It's a shame because judging from the quality of current games I believe western devs could do a better job.
Re: Earth's Special Forces
You're right that's a detail they've missed. I guess they're going for the initial look of the scenery when Cell first made the arena. The area changes to almost complete desert like mountains later but I think that's because of all the fighting. Grass can't handle that much ki!TheDevilsCorpse wrote:Colors are nice, but it's missing the dirt under the ring, and its got too much green...TRL wrote:The cell games one looks the best. @nitroex: There's always Zeq2lite. Doing a pretty good job as well.
