Thanks.
They always promote Bulma with one of her most degrading moments.

Awesome! Love it! Is that the preview for the final episode of Dr. Slump Arale-chan? The episode title sounds rather final with the "Sayonara" and the "Bye-cha!"
Do you follow the most comprehensive and entertaining Dragon Ball analysis series on YouTube? If you do, you're smart and awesome and fairly attractive. If not, see what all the fuss is about without even having to leave Kanzenshuu:

This is really cool! "New" animation as well as an instrumental version of Makafushigi I haven't heard before.

Yep, you're all right. I found this as I was searching for Dr. Slump videos. Sad that the anime is quite unknown in the US.

Does that mean Dragon Ball took over the time-slot that Dr. Slump did when it ended, or did they just promo them together because it worked well (similar shows, adapted from the same author's material, both by Toei, etc.)? That's kinda nifty.takarajima wrote:The Dr. Slump video is the next episode preview for the final episode.
The DB video is the announcement of the start of the series.
And I agree keroyon400. I've only read the first 3 Dr. Slump volumes, but I'd love to get to see the anime too.

Yeah, DragonBall took over the Dr. Slump time slot (7:00PM every Wednesday on Fuji TV). After GT ended, the 90s remake of Dr. Slump took the time slot back. Back in the day this became known as the "Toriyama Block" amongst fans, as one of his series (Dr. Slump, DB, DBZ, DBGT, Dr. Slump) held that specific time slot for over an astounding 18 years! After that it was held by One Piece, until the series was moved to 9:30AM every Sunday, thus ending the primetime anime blocks on Fuji TV.Gyt Kaliba wrote:Does that mean Dragon Ball took over the time-slot that Dr. Slump did when it ended, or did they just promo them together because it worked well (similar shows, adapted from the same author's material, both by Toei, etc.)?
If you're interested in more information about the two series, check out the DragonBall anime page on Kanzentai. You can also view the next episode preview for the first DragonBall episode in our features section (link).

Yeah, DB/Z/GT took over Dr. Slump's time slot, then when GT wrapped up the Dr. Slump remake took its place. Then later One Piece started out in that same time slot.Gyt Kaliba wrote:Does that mean Dragon Ball took over the time-slot that Dr. Slump did when it ended
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?

Man, eighteen years is incredible. It bothers me that Fuji moved One Piece from that timeslot, because it really deserved it.Hujio wrote:Yeah, DragonBall took over the Dr. Slump time slot (7:00PM every Wednesday on Fuji TV). Thanks for the info, Hujio & Herms. It's the ability to find out cool stuff like that, that's had me poking my head back in here more recently.
18 years is definitely incredible, and I definitely like the line that was drawn there, from Slump to DB and back before finally passing to One Piece. That must have been one hell of a coveted time-slot for the channel.

The one who has uploaded that rare video on NicoNicoDouga (the video on YT is a re-upload) lent me the original beta video tape, so I ripped that and the other rare previews in decent quality

Wow, that footage is old!
Toriyama actually pulled in so many fans to watch Dragon Ball just because most kids wanted to see Bulma topless or something like that and just got into the story.

Those images look great, Kei. Do you plan on posting the full quality clips as mp4s or such anywhere? I'm a huge fan of the early Dragonball, so I'm kind of interested.kei17 wrote:The one who has uploaded that rare video on NicoNicoDouga (the video on YT is a re-upload) lent me the original beta video tape, so I ripped that and the other rare previews in decent quality![]()

Whoa...that is some rare footage!
Dr. Slump had a huge following in Hong Kong as well. In fact, the Cantonese theme song became a bit of a cult classic. Particularly due to the fact that it was sung by the late great Anita Mui. (Americans may recognize her in films like "Rumble in the Bronx" and "Drunken Master 2".)
