w0rd.Kanzentai Update wrote: This special is known amongst DragonBall fans by a few different names, such as the 3rd DragonBall Z TV special or the Movie Overview Special. This special was hosted by Goku and Gohan, who are dressed for the occasion in white tuxes, and covers all of the DragonBall and DragonBall Z movies that preceded DragonBall Z movie 7, "Extreme Battle!! The Three Great Super Saiyans". However, for years it has been virtually inaccessible to fans outside of Japan... until now! Thanks to our buddy kei17, we have an exclusive detailed look at this "clip show" special just for all of you that you won't find anywhere else!
Once you're done reading, be sure to check out Daizenshuu EX podcast episode #247 where VegettoEX, Meri, and myself had a grand time "reviewing" this special. I guess it's now one more of those things we can all check off of our "to see before I die" lists. Oh, what will we get our hands on next?!

DragonBall Z - Movie Overview Special
I just put this up on Kanzentai, but I think it deserves some discussion. Since I'm lazy, I'm just gonna copy-n-paste the update from the site:
Re: DragonBall Z - Movie Overview Special
It's a shame Fuji won't comission more of these. When Strong World came out a one hour recap with Luffy and the gang would've been a pretty cool way to buy them a week to keep behind Oda and also promote the current film.
I find it strange that the first six movies are presented in 4:3 but the next four letter-boxed. I wonder if that was a case of what film masters they had on hand or not. Hmm...

Re: DragonBall Z - Movie Overview Special
DBZ movies 1-3 were presented in a 4:3 format on VHS, but all the laserdisc releases have the letterboxed footage, so this sentence is somewhat wrong. Anyway, now I have only DBZ movie 3 on VHS. I have to check out the other early movies to confirm their aspect ratio. I will put some screen caps here when I get them.kanzentai wrote:Oddly enough, the footage for DragonBall movies 1-3 and DragonBall Z movies 1-3 used in this special are presented in a 4:3 fullscreen format, as that's how these movies were originally released in Japan on VHS and LaserDisc.
I am sure that none of film masters was letterboxed. The ending credits list TOVIC (one of the Toei Group companies) as the video studio, so Toei just used their video tape masters made for the VHS releases which they had on hand.I wonder if that was a case of what film masters they had on hand or not.

Pretty cool guide. It's something that would be cool to watch, even if it is just a recap and a clip show.
By the way, is there any chance I might be able to get a larger picture of this?

"Does anyone know where I can download this special, or where I can buy this?"
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

If you can't buy it anywhere, then they must have downloaded it as well. I feel pissed off when people say no. Something rare as this should be shared.Pokewhiz7 wrote:You can't buy it anywhere, and no.samuraix123 wrote:"Does anyone know where I can download this special, or where I can buy this?"

So ... what's this thing actually called?
Does the title "Extreme Battle!! The Three Great Super Saiyans – Special" actually show up anywhere? Or is it simply "Summer Vacation Special," as the eyecatch (?) says.

Kei17, those are from some fansub. Where did you get it?
Re: DragonBall Z - Movie Overview Special
If I'm not mistaken, it was Kei17's VHS (possibly copied onto DVD) which was sent to the Kanzenshuu team. So those caps he posted are most likely from his own copy.SylentEcho wrote:Kei17, those are from some fansub. Where did you get it?

Re: DragonBall Z - Movie Overview Special
First off, we didn't download it from anywhere. It was sent to us by kei17, who has a copy of his own on Betamax. Therefore, you can be pissed off all you want, but it is not ours to just hand out to everyone. We are here to simply educate and document rare aspects of DragonBall, which is what we did by making the page. If you want, we could stop documenting these things so we don't have to deal with people getting pissed that they don't have a copy of their very own.SSVegetto wrote:If you can't buy it anywhere, then they must have downloaded it as well. The yellow cards that appear at the beginning and end of the special do call it the "DragonBall Z Summer Vacation Special". Following the first yellow card is the actual title card, which does say "DragonBall Z: Extreme Battle!! The Three Great Super Saiyans – Special". I've added a video clip of the opening on the page, so be sure to take a look at that.Cipher wrote:So ... what's this thing actually called?

From what I remember of the story, a friend of his, or a cousin or something, had recorded most of the series' original broadcast run on Betamax (including commercials). This person gave them to kei17, who apparently owns a bunch of Betamax players, in exchange for him ripping them to DVD so they could be preserved digitally. From there, he sent us a copy as long as we agreed to review/discuss it on the podcast.SylentEcho wrote:Kei17, those are from some fansub. Where did you get it?

Wasn't there another one where Gohan and Goten are bathing and Goku comes out of no where?

"Fuji TV Year-End Special"
Re: DragonBall Z - Movie Overview Special
So he sent you copy of it on a DVD-R or something? Which is basically the same thing as if you were to download it. Now if he let you borrow his betamax and you sent his betamax back to him. Even then you would probably make a copy of it to yourself? How is that different from downloading it?Hujio wrote:First off, we didn't download it from anywhere. It's nice that you document Dragonball stuff. But why does that make you better than anyone else to keep rare stuff to yourself (You have your own personal copy that you didn't pay for that nobody else has)? And who is Pokewhiz7? He just came out of the blue and said no. And he isn't even Kei17. You personally don't have to share it , but I thought it would be nice to share it or whatever. If Kei17 did. People share rare stuff on this forum all the time.
I didn't personally even ask you or anyone. But Pokewhiz7 just came out and said no like a dick. Like he has full entitlement to this and no one else can have it. When I assume he doesn't even own a copy himself. It's Kei17, and now you.
I'm probably just as big of fan of Dragonball as anyone else. And just because I don't document stuff, or know everything in a daizenshuu guide, doesn't mean I'm not entitled to rare stuff also.
If you want to say I have something rare and keep personally want to keep it to yourself. I understand. But saying oh I didn't download it as if you didn't have a free copy. Or implying it's a legal issue if anyone else has it because they don't document Dragonball. That doesn't seem right to me.
Re: DragonBall Z - Movie Overview Special
Let me try to defuse this a little bit. I think from what little they've said, the point is the following:
-This is Kei17's cap of the special. He had a betamax of the special and he recorded it digitally.
-He shared his digital recording with Daizenshuu EX and Kanzentai under the explicit purpose of reviewing it only.
-They either:
A.) Do not feel comfortable releasing it to the public since it is Kei17's cap and it's not their place to break his trust.
B.) Kei17 specifically asked them not to and as good people they are respecting his wishes.
-In this case, Kei17 is the one who you should inquire with about his plans for the special. Politely.
-If he is not willing to release it, then it probably will not be released to the public. And if this is so, you should respect his decision.
-Further, the way the rules work on the forum it's sort of iffy if the whole thing would be allowed to be released specifically here since it's technically, you know, illegal. As grey an area as the thing exists in.

How exactly is it illegal? Hujio just said he got a free copy for himself from Kei17. And you can't buy it from anywhere. Is he legally allowed to have this? But you are saying if it was sent to other people on this forum, then that is illegal, but not for him?Ashura wrote:-Further, the way the rules work on the forum it's sort of iffy if the whole thing would be allowed to be released specifically here since it's technically, you know, illegal. This forum already has links to other rare stuff to download also. Whole footage to a movie.

Please remember that you are not entitled to everything. Temper tantrums will not in fact, get you what you want. Feelings of rage towards Mr./Ms. Pokewhiz over their statement is not kind. Common sense does, in fact, apply. You are not exempt from this. Kanzentai, as well as all people employed by and associated with them, owe you nothing. Thank you and have a nice day!

I couldn't care less if I had this or not. And no one owes me a damn thing. And I didn't even ask for it (I only implied that it would be nice to see it out there). But at least I don't go around speaking for other people. Pretend I own the thing, and tell people no, in other people's communities to make people feel uncomfortable.Eddie wrote:SSVegetto wrote:
