Hurcule Satan Question.
Last night while I laid in bed not able to sleep I was thinking... Where did the name Hurcule come from, I know it's from another dub but from wich one and does it mean anything in that language?
Also, whos to say Satan's first name isn't Hurcule? They never mentioned his first name in original anime or manga did they?
Edit: Well.. this is odd it seems do to some censors, my post makes NO SENCE! basiclly I was asking if Mr.Satan's dub name that originated from another dub have any meaning in that dub it originated in. The second question I was asking who's to say THAT name isnt his first name if it was never mentioned in the original anime or manga unless it was... I don't know now I have to write this long discription cause I cant say the "H" word... pretty funny though.

I think his name should be Clarance. That would be an awesome name for him. I can just see him yelling at Cell (who's obviously ignoring him), "Hey buddy! Don't make me box your ears! I'll rip you limb from limb!" And then Celll looks at him, and Satan's like "Hey, don't look at me. My name's Clarance." (then he runs away)
Ha ha, sigh, that made my day.

Ya. Hercurle is apparently how the French spell Hercules. At least, that's what I've heard. Sounds odd they'd just drop the s at the end though.Jerseymilk wrote:If I remember correctly, the name H-e-r-c-u-l-e originated from the French dub.

If you're talking about dropping of the S, it's similar to how the name "Mary" becomes "Maria" in Spanish. If you're wondering why they kept it like that for edited DBZ, you do realize how corny it would have sounded, had they called him "Hercules" right? As for another deal on this, which is funny, look at the end of this flash:Xyex wrote:Ya. Hercurle is apparently how the French spell Hercules. At least, that's what I've heard. No, it is spelled hercules, it's just that the s is silent... and for that matter so is the h... and the last e.Xyex wrote:Ya. Hercurle is apparently how the French spell Hercules. In a sense it is. He's obviously been inspirated based on a typical '70s/'80s pro-wrestler. My guess: Randy Savage.Dominator wrote:I thought Mr. Satan was just a wrestling name.

Well the wrestlers in Japan are even crazier than the ones in North America, so I think Toriyama was making fun of the ones in his own country too. If you think they put on quite the show here, then you haven't seen anything yet. Ya they have a wrestler who is a politician and member of their parliament too, but the guy actually goes to the sessions in his wrestling mask. Yep, odd little country that Nippon place is. >_>

He's first name should be 'Mista'. There, cleared up.
Hercule is downright stupid, some kind of Hercules rip.

Nope. "Mista" is "Mr." and will never be a name. Hercule is a fine name. First time I heard it I didn't know it was changed but I instantly got the joke.Bejiita wrote:He's first name should be 'Mista'. There, cleared up.

No he's supposed to be based on a wrestler. Hence the cape and belt, and all that big talk. Only difference being that he does similar Asian-style martial arts to the others instead of wrestling, which is technically a martial art. Though I'm talking about the original type of Greco-Roman wrestling, not the kind that Toriyama is basing him on.

Yeah, Mr. Satan's a parody of american pro-wrestling: the cape, the belt, the fans, the additude, the sideburns, the afro. Mmmmm, that's one nice 'fro.Jerseymilk wrote:No he's supposed to be based on a wrestler. Hence the cape and belt, and all that big talk. On a side note, anyone else think we should have a sticky of all the DBZ parodies and gags we can find? Just an idea...
BTW: Just to keep this on topic, when I first heard the name H*ercule it was at the start of the World Tournament with the people running around in costumes, I was too busy laughing to get the Hercules thing till a little later...it made more sense to me then than Mr Satan does now but for some reason I just can't help liking Mr Satan better...
