What Dragon Ball media do you consider canon
Besides the manga, what other Dragon Ball media do you consider when thinking of the Dragon Ball universe? Like, what movies do you consider "real" in a fictional tense, do you consider GT part of the actual canon timeline, the specials, filler? Personally I want to accept GT since I like the characters but it just doesn't make much sense as the end of Dragon Ball IMO.
Re: What Dragon Ball media do you consider canon
The manga is canon to the manga, anime to the anime (and GT to the anime), and probably at least some movies to the anime. The anime/GT are obviously not canon to the manga.

tsss no that is not what I meant, like WHAT do you consider to be true when you think of it. Like if you made a wish to be transported to the Dragon Ball world, would you think GT would actually come after Z or no?

GT certainly wouldn't come after Z... plot hole city.Nex Carnifex wrote:tsss no that is not what I meant, like WHAT do you consider to be true when you think of it. Like if you made a wish to be transported to the Dragon Ball world, would you think GT would actually come after Z or no?
As for what's "true", I like to take the "multiverse" prospective, which would mean the manga and anime exist within in the same universe (with exception to some filler material), while the movies exist in a different Dragon Ball universe.
I have a Dragon Ball collection of sorts which can be seen here.

"Everything is canon, but it doesn't exist in the same universe."
Here's my personal outlook:
- The manga happened.
- The JSAT happened.
- Some of the Gohan training filler from the Saiyan Arc happened.
- The driving episode happened.
- Trunks fooling with the timeline caused TFS DBZ Abridged to happen.

So you don't consider Goku's final transformation to be SS4 just SS3 right?

But Akira designed it, I just feel it was meant to be, or maybe not...I wish Akira would come out and say if it was real or not...Kendamu wrote:I'd say that's pretty obvious.Nex Carnifex wrote:So you don't consider Goku's final transformation to be SS4 just SS3 right?

Re: What Dragon Ball media do you consider canon
I feel GT started out completely and utterly wrong and nonsensical in terms of Dragon Ball. To many random characters were showing up stronger than Kid Buu that were just to convenient to drive the story forward, no more acrobatic plot devices like Dragon Ball had, it was just OMG, it just so happens that a bunch of super strong fighters just show up which if they had earlier would have killed us all instantly, good thing we've had constant challenges all our lives up until this point so we could be exactly at their power level to provide an even challenge. That I find hard to accept, but later GT got good when Akira started helping do to it's unpopularity. It's just that if you accept part of GT, you need to accept the whole thing, that's why I wish they made a manga for it and corrected all the retardation like Rildo, the worms, the dancing guys, and pretty much everything until Baby. And then refined that. Maybe a fan will do it one day, and Akira will like it better or something and say its canon. Yeah I kind of take it seriously, I really love thinking about the character's progression of power it's like I'm somewhat insane in that way.

Toriyama did not design Super Saiyan 4. That was done by anime character designer Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru.Nex Carnifex wrote:But Akira designed it, I just feel it was meant to be, or maybe not...I wish Akira would come out and say if it was real or not...

It's not like it didn't happen....... GT just doesn't exist same universe that the manga happened in.Nex Carnifex wrote:But Akira designed it, I just feel it was meant to be, or maybe not...I wish Akira would come out and say if it was real or not...Kendamu wrote:I'd say that's pretty obvious.Nex Carnifex wrote:So you don't consider Goku's final transformation to be SS4 just SS3 right?

No he didn't. Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru was the one who designed Super Saiyan 4.Nex Carnifex wrote:But Akira designed it

Re: What Dragon Ball media do you consider canon
You know what I think, I think that GT happened, but since it is only done in Anime form it is only canon to the Anime. BUT, since it isn't in manga form then I can assume that the manga form would not contain the inconsistencies that the anime version contained just like the anime version of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are much more inconsistent than the manga. So GT's main plot can just be taken and cleaned of things like low end feats when being reimagined in manga form. Or does that sound ridiculous...
Re: What Dragon Ball media do you consider canon
The manga is the main canon.
The anime has it's own canon in which I include CERTAIN filler.
I guess one could say GT is the sequel to the anime of DBZ, not sure how I'd see it though.

It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

Not really, people can take DB just to be a story and not fret over continuity.Nex Carnifex wrote:Well these are questions ever tru dragon ball fan needs to answer one day
But to answer your question: I think the manga continuity is seperate from the anime's (which I think includes GT).
I think a minimal amount of filler happened in the manga universe, for example Gregory. I also think movie 9 happened, mainly because it doesn't contradict much at all. The JSAT special happens too, and after that Dragon Ball Online. I guess that's it.

Hardly. It's just a damn manga/anime series, you should enjoy it in the way you see fit to.Nex Carnifex wrote:Well these are questions ever tru dragon ball fan needs to answer one day

I consider bootleg toys to be the one true canon.
