You say you have the best of intentions and yet you posted this there:
"Heh, Oldboy. Back to the "unfriendly-ness" of the DaizEX forum. Looks like it's my turn today!
I haven't got banned or anything, but another member was incredibly analloyd with a post of mine. Looks like one of those moderator-wannabe members:
http://db.schuby.org/daizex/viewtopi...=2529&start=20
I have a feeling I'll be banned sooner or later for this."
If that isn't unfairly slandering everyone for just one person, I don't know what is. Why do you have to take part in OldBoy's "slamfest" if you mean the best of intentions?
My point is that, it may have turned out to be a misunderstanding on your part, but now the damage has been done as you've given OldBoy more ammo to continue on with more false claims.

Yes, I actually believed Oldboy's claims at that time. I said that I trust him, so he must have his resons for speaking. And I still trust him to this day. Sorry about it, but this is how it is.
Maybe he was one former member, but that much I don't know, honestly.

We're cool, I hope. I still feel really bad about this whole thing, but I'll get over it eventually.mrkitano wrote:Just to let you know that me and Campbell have our differences settled. Right, Campbell? There was only a bit of misunderstanding...
And everyone else is getting mad at you now - and I feel responsible.
Anyway - back on topic - I still don't see where Oldboy is comming from. Does anyone know if he was banned from here before? That might be the reason he seems so egar to attack the place.
(é) Yeah, I'm famous. Super famous. I start things.

See, but that's the thing. People come here, don't follow the (easily followed) rules, and then get banned for it. And because the way they acted here is allowed elsewhere they get offended. It's the whole "It's the internet!" thing. Annoying as hell, but true. A lot of people tend to blame things on the community that booted them as opposed to themselves and their own actions.Yes, I actually believed Oldboy's claims at that time. I said that I trust him, so he must have his resons for speaking.

And he didn't just jump on the dogpile, he posted his bad experience, and I see nothing wrong - or unnfair - in what he said.
Besides, he's said he's going to clear things up over there anyway.

This is part of my first post there referencing to a good DB site. Of all the sites out there, I've picked DaizEX.If any of would like to know more about DB, I recommend this site:
http://www.daizex.com/
It's very well done and it is built with a mature attitude, similarly to J's own Ringworld, unlike the millions of Geocities/ Angelfire/ AOL websites made by little boys...
This is all.
Oldboy then quoted part of the rules listed on this forum, to which I even replied they were kind of elitist (the part refferring to punctuation and spelling). It is still my opinion, but I accepted them anyhow.
Oldboy quoted this bit of the rules:
This is my own post in reply to Oldboy's quote:RULE # 1: GRAMMAR
You're typing on a message board. You want people to understand what you're saying. You want them to QUICKLY understand what you're saying. At the same time, be sure to use proper sentence structure when you write. Also, be sure you're adding in punctuation and spacing where appropriate. Statements end with periods. Questions end with question marks. There's a space in between sentences. You don't want to look like an idiot, and we don't want you to make us look like idiots for allowing you to post that way.
We've even typed up a special, if you will, "Grammar Primer" that we encourage all present and new members to check out. Following this style-guide will certainly help you fit in around here... not to mention help your over-all writing! Also, we would greatly appreciate it if you would not post in any colors other than the default black. It just looks childish.
Now here I emphasize the "You don't want to look like an idiot, and we don't want you to make us look like idiots for allowing you to post that way.", and it based in this that I used the "elitist" term.Yeah, that kind of rules are kind of elitist, and automatically exclude non-fluent English speakers.
But since I've seen John Byrne's forum rules, I became desensitized!
But as I said, I accepted the rules, and since I'm here I abide to them regardless.

Now here I'll have to disagree with you. It isn't "elitest" to expect everyone to be fluent enough in English to carry on a conversation in a proper manner. Those that learn Engliah as a second language are usually very good about using all the grammarical rules. It's only the native Engliah speakers who refuse to type properly. I'm sure if anyone came here and couldn't converse in English well, we wouldn't slam them - hell, everyone's pretty nice about reminding newbies about the grammar rule. Nobody says "Hey bitch, you need another comma in there, and you used the wrong "your" - asshole."mrkitano wrote:Now here I emphasize the "You don't want to look like an idiot, and we don't want you to make us look like idiots for allowing you to post that way.", and it based in this that I used the "elitist" term.

And if someone's having a really hard time learning English, perhaps they should look for a forum that's based in their native tongue.

Why do I expect people to post in English?
Because I can't moderate a forum where the posts are in a language I can't understand.
That said, the basic grammatical structure of most Latin-based languages is essentially the same. If you can type well in Spanish, you can type well in English.

Wow.
Is it me, or has there been a lot of drama here, lately?
Leave for a few months and come back to find people pulling each other's hair. What's even more frustrating is that there's not a single wet T-shirt in sight.

Drama. We've been getting a LARGE influx of new members lately, 90% of whom don't pay attention to any rules when they join, especially the grammar one. As a result, EX has to provide more warnings and even ban people a lot more frequently than he should have to, but all some people are seeing is the amount of times he lays down the law.Mattias wrote:Wow.

You know it's getting bad when the expression "it's not like yesteryear" applies to less than six months ago.

Found a wet t-shirt, but it's in the mud, so it doesn't count.

Silly boy! There are no girls on the Interweb! Anyone who claims to be a girl on this board or on the internet is faking.

People take having a Board with a grammar standard for granted. When you Staff a huge board with over half the members typing like retarded ducks on heroine, you'll start to enjoy Grammar standards on havens like this.
Bad Grammar, in every case, indicates an idiot or someone who generally doesn't have a clue. You won't find an insightful post or amazing argument from someone who types poorly. Bad Grammar = Bad Members.
And, as aforementioned, people who speak it as their second language are always good typer's. We have a ton on MFG, all of which are part of the intelligent set of members. If you've been through the process and discipline of learning a 2nd language, you actually learn some respect for it.

Indeed. I've met a number of the people on MFG who have English as a second language and they'd all fit in here just fine. Eglaya would be a prime example of that. She types in English a lot better than a lot of the native English speakers I've met on the net.
