I have been posting on a fourms for nearly 10 years and I don't think the site has ruined other forums for me. The only forums outside of Daizex that I constantly post are Toho Kingdom, AVPGalaxy, TGWTG and sometimes Evageeks. I do tend to like this place more then those forums because it's smaller and more relax. This place has a lot of smart and nice members, not to mention it's the only good Dragon Ball forum that is still alive. Other Dragon Ball forums that I see now these days are full of noobs and really bad funimation fan boys. All of the good old Dragon Ball forums are gone (Like MFG and Planet Namek for example).

I see people bitch how daizex not having a off topic forum but I think not having a off topic makes the forum special. I can go on other sites for those types of topics.

It's one of the "best" forums I've encountered I have to admit, although sometimes I do think some of the rules here are a bit too conservative and somewhat biased. No offence but I do think some of the members and staff here can be asses, or at least "unagreeable" in a certain sense, but I guess I shouldn't argue too much since no forum is perfect. Again, no offence, just giving out my honest opinion about this place.
Attitudefan wrote:Yes. Other forums are full of junk posts, cluttering threads with pictures and no decent conversation ever lasts (It doesn't help that txt language is allowed).
You make it sound like all forums are crap except for this one. From my experience I have found at least a good small handful of forums that aren't bad (cool members, reasonable rules, nice staff, etc).

I never really fully understood why this forum doesn't have a off-topic section, if the reason is something like "It would distract people from discussing Dragon Ball and instead go to talk about other stuff" or something like that, than I would still disagree. I know plenty of forums that have off-topic sections and members there still actively discuss the main topic. Besides, I've always been curious about how the people here think about stuff other than Dragon Ball (movies, shows, celebrities, political stuff, etc).

About what exactly? The rules? Mr. EX is very open to having his mind changed when someone comes up with a good enough reason to. Not to mention the majority of people seem to like them, or at the very least put up with them. Which is all kinda moot since we all agreed to them, but whatever.

If I recall correctly, and people who know better are free to correct me, it's because EX doesn't want the forum cluttered with crap that will inevitably come from it. That's the entire reason the introductory section got crippled.

Yeah, it's meant to be a Dragon Ball forum, and there really isn't any need for an off-topic forum. If you want your off-topic forum fix, then go to another forum that deals with that sort of stuff.

We're actually really lenient about the rules; we're more "spirit of the law" than "letter of the law". Like your signature for example: way longer than the rules allow, but no one has been on you about it (though, it'd be great if you could cut that down).

I will cop to being an ass (but I've only be banned here once). I'm a huge jerk and while I try to keep it in check, I can get a little nasty.

If anyone thinks any of the rules are hampering discussion of Dragon Ball (which is the whole point of this forum) I'm sure Mike would be more than happy to hear suggestions. Really, if you think a rule enforced here isn't helping, shoot off an email; you won't be ignored.

Exactly. Most of y'all are too young to remember, but it only took a few people (okay, it was me and Tori-bot) to completely derail the whole forum for months.

I wasn't targeting the rules, just the way some members act around here.

Although to answer your question, I've always wondered the whole reason behind the "No image signatures and only 80x80 avatars allowed" rules, was to make this forum more "adult"? *Not saying that I'm against them at all, in fact, I'm absolutely okay with them.* I just sorta the small impression that those strict rules are there just to be strict. (I think there were a couple of other examples too, but I can't remember them from the top of my head at the moment.)

Like what I said earlier, I've always wanted to know how the people HERE think about other stuff that isn't all just about Dragon Ball, some of the members here seem to have very interesting thoughts and opinions so that's why I wonder. Unless you guys want me to track down every forum that every member here is also a part of and discuss with them there....

Really? One time when I edited my signature I got a message saying "Your signature exceeds the number of characters allowed" or something like that and wouldn't allow me to save it. Maybe my current signature just looks like its exceeding the character limit but its actually not/or some kind of bug?

Meh, I never understood the point of the Introduction section either way since you can't post there. Besides, how often do people here visit them anyways?

Rule #9 says that it can't be longer than four lines, so yes it's exceeding it. When it told you that it exceeded the number of characters allowed, it meant that it was exceeding the number of characters allowed by the forum software, not necessarily by VegettoEX.

Alright, fair enough. I changed my signature, so it should be much shorter now.

To be fair, the "number of lines" part is a guideline. It's more about the space taken up than anything else; a page shouldn't end up twice as long as it should be because everyone's sigs are longer than their posts. Get creative by using smaller font sizes or something, and nobody's going to punish you for technically having 5 or 6 lines.

I think someone made a off topic forum for the site called "Daizex random". I have no idea if it's still alive but the chat room is the cloest thing to a off topic forum. I personally never like chat rooms and forums will always be better IMO.

Yes, because here people type correctly...And while most forums I browse on have decent grammar, the way some people types just makes me cringe.

For the most part, being here made me Up my standards for what a forum should look like and how members should interact with each other (Not trolling and bullshitting at every opportunity) The grammar and spelling though is what I like most about Kanzenshuu (R.I.P. Daizex) Been on too many forums where those two are ignored and it's just a real pain in the ass reading people's posts.

Hooray for Higher Standards :)

When I was much younger I did subscribe to other forums and I found them unbearable. Nearly every other forum suffers from retarded mean people, internet tough guys, meme and spam abuse, one word posts, insanely huge avatars and signatures (it simply makes me facepalm when I see those two last points combined), piss-poor spelling skills, topics that go off-topic faster than the speed of sound, unfair moderators, moderators that go off-topic, unfair bans, the list goes on and on and on and on.

Did Daizenshuu EX ruin other forums for me/us? Or did they ruin themselves for doing a piss-poor job at maintaining coherence?

I agree, there is a forum that I go on that has mods that are reasonable so if there's a forum fight they know what to do. I don't know if there is a grammar rule but if there is then it's not too strict but it doesn't matter because every post makes sense even if they leave out minor things like a full stop, they have an off topic section and they don't have the whole "it has to ad to the conversation thing" and the forum is fine, it has interesting users, nice moderators, the topics stay on topic with the occasional joke/joker to lighten things up. And they allow big avatars picture sigs etc ad which ads a bit of personality to every thing and it never get's in the way of conversation. I have to say after being on that forum it has kinda ruined THIS forum for me, when I post on that forum I actually feel like I'm part of a conversation and every thing seems relaxed. When I post on here I feel like I'm a student in a classroom reading out his book report while the teacher glares at me. If it wasn't for all the great and knowledgeable users on here and all the awesome content on the main site I probably wouldn't pay much attention to this forum.

Yup, we hold people to a higher standard of discourse than any comparable forum. I'm proud of that. I'm glad that people fell compelled to make sure what they're posting is relevant, intelligent, and grammatically correct. If you feel embarrassed by your posts, there's probably something wrong with them.

I'm glad that we have strict rules for keeping avatars small and signatures short and text-only. If you can't put any personality into your posts without image-macro-jokes, 300px wide avatars, and huge signature images; then you don't have a personality. Your post here reveals a lot of your personality, in fact.

I can understand your frustration with the academic tone of the forum if you're expecting a more casual atmosphere, but because the forum is based (mechanically) on single topic conversations, the tone naturally becomes more and more academic. This doesn't mean you can't keep things light and make the occasional joke, though. In fact, it's incredibly common for a post to be clever, humorous, and personable - but the post then also continues on-topic. If you're posting with just a joke, you're not on topic; and you have to be on topic to be part of the conversation. That isn't a forum rule, that's just how conversations work. If everyone else is talking about the likelihood of a renewed Blu-Ray release and you interject with "the discs are inert", you aren't part of the conversation, you're interrupting those that are.

I love this place. I guess you could say it did in fact ruin other forums for me, because I've never seen a forum like this one with more mature users and such. It makes other forums I had been using look horrible because now I've finally found my comfort zone. :)

So many friendly users, more strict rules, plenty of Dragon Ball. I love it.

I come from a site (Metal Archives) that's basically DB but for metal and all the sub genres. Very strict staff, no BS, generally good users, and a tight community. Been there for years, so finding a site that's exactly that but for DB is an awesome catch. Sites like this and that do ruin other forums that are poorly organized, let users run amok, and have low standards. Sites that also don't have some weight behind them (Kanzenshuu has the database, metal archives has the vast encyclo) feel inflated.
