DRAGON BOX RE-REMASTERED by ME pics inside... *New pics*

Post by Spikedude » Sun Jan 15, 2006 3:56 pm

Afer finnaly getting a hold of a DBZ V.1 Dragonbox, the first thing I did was make back up copies on my computer, I didn't feel like taking risks.
After messing around with the dragonbox on my computer, I decided to try a liltle remastering of the already beatiful looknig dragonbox. I have taken a screenshot of both my RE-REMASTERED VERSION and the ORIGIANL DRAGONBOX and I was wondering if people prefered my remastered version of the dragonbox, or the real dragonbox quaility. Samples are found below

Please tell me which you prefer and why. I also want to say that the original resolution is 640x480, I just lowered it a bit so I could host the images in imageshack XD

The saturation looks too high (a little too green) in the first one, so I think the second is better.

I'm going to post a few more images so that you can see how other colors look besides green XD

It's impossible to tell without pushing out your remastered signal to NTSC hardware, preferably configured correctly. Whenever I work on clean-up and such for AMVs, I never decide upon a final script until I've played back several test versions through the Hollywood/Netstream cards.

In all honesty, I don't see much of a difference between what you've posted :). If you're going to post more pictures, please provide a link to an off-site page with the images, so as to not kill this thread's load-time. Thanks!

LINKS! Links to images! That took way too long to load considering I'm on cable.

I find your version simply darkens the original. No better, no worse; just two shades darker.

There I posted one more image comparison, I'll find a few more where you can see some more colors, preferably one which includes freezer. ( I call him freezer because in the Latin version aired in South America, that was his name, so I apologize if any one gets offended, which I'd find rather stupid XD)

Same in French. That's what the pun is made on. I always wondered why "Kuula" was never pronounced that way. Instead, we all say his pun. :P

EDIT: Again, all I see different with yours is colour shading. Yours seemed 1 or 2 shades brighter than the DBoxes for the second two pics.

For the people that said its just 2 shades darker and its the "same" or that there wasn't much difference, but I was wondering which one people liked best, since there is a rather obvious difference, so I'd apreciate it if you could tell me which one you prefered based on the 3 sets of screenshots that are currently posted

Except for the one with Freeza, I liked the Dragonboxes better.

To really apreciate the remastering I've done you'd have to have both of the RAW video files, since it is impossible to show every color that appears in DBZ in screenshots

Could you make short clips using Windows Movie Maker or Virtual dub or something?
Where's the beef?

I have mixed feelings about the "re-remastering"... all it seems to do is over saturate the image, and it looks okay but it ruins any visual sublty.

Over-all, I think I like the original's better (but if the difference is merely saturation, it really doen't matter)

Yeah, it doesn't seem to make too much of a difference to me. I almost like the duller colors better. I mean, the show is just old and there isn't a lot you can do to change that.

Could you possibly save the images in non-BMP format? >_o Even renaming it into a different file type, it's still a BMP. Takes waaaay too long to load up just one.

Yeah, I assumed Spikedude saved them as png's so there'd be no lin image quality due to compression. I put all the images together and saved as a lossless jpeg.

It's about 800 Kb, but the 6 images by themselves were 2.7 Mb :P

I apreciate the work man, it looks much nicer the way you did it :). I hope you dont mind if I put that URL on the first topic, and yes, I did save them as a bmp to avoid losing quality

On another note, I'd like to tell everyone then I've done a lot more than simple DARKENING, If you know something about video filtering and have encoded anime before, then you can probably see the subtle changes and qualitites that the remastered version has to offer. I also like the remastered version better, because having lived in Peru ( thats in South America ) I have seen the dragonbox quaility video for years on my TV.

Your version looks like FUNimation's releases, while the Dragonboxes look slighty drained of color, but that's probably due to my evil moniter. I'm sure the Dragonboxes don't REALLY look like that... Or do they...
