I wouldn't even go as far as to say they like it at night. Toonami was only given so much funding, and don't forget that it doesn't occupy the whole night's lineup.

I really hate this argument. I don't see "damn" or "hell" as real swears. Why would you want someone in a dire situation to yelling out "darn". It's so unnatural. It's not like South Park language. It's just a more realistic dialog.

It's not really swearing to me, at all.

But nor is it realistic, they just bloody abused of the damned words more than they should. Even if they weren't needed at the precise time/script.

Only depending on how you want to translate it. But it is true - In Japanese, there's a fair lot of "Kuso", "Yarou" and such sprinkled through the dialogue in Z and Kai.

The language doesn't have specific curse words so much as just rude ways of saying your words that can be translated to profanity in English. Of course, in DBZ when our heroes are fighting for their lives and others, cursing is natural when the stakes are high as hell.

If anything, they're still quite calm for these situations. There should be a lot of f-bombs, 'shit', and 'son of a bitch' (or just 'bitch') just to stir things up and avoid falling a repetitive state of 'swears'.

I think really as long as you can provide a good context as to why you'd translate it to a swear word, and such, then you can excuse some swearing. Like, I don't usually like to go as high as "Shit" and such, too often, in my translations, because of the general audience intended for the show. But even some PG films can get away with at least one swear, like "shit" and still not shoot up to like a 12. But my ponit was, I don't usually like to go to words like "Shit" too often, as it can become a little needless, but sometimes, it is needed for a nice sharp shock, or because the context can justify its use.

For instance, I more often than not use something like "Damn" for "Kuso", depending on the user. Like I'm not gonna have Gohan use "Shit", when he says "Kuso!" However, one of the few times I've translated a character as saying "Shit", flat out, was when Vegeeta has just done his Final Flash, to no avail, and Cell starts making his slow walk towards him. I feel, in that situation, when Vegeeta pretty much knows that he's got slim-to-no chances of getting out of this alive, he would just go "Shit!"

Another factor, I feel though, that's being overlooked, is what can fit the mouth flaps, and whether you feel that an actor delivering the line could make it look believeable to how the show's been animated. For example, another Vegeeta "Kuso!" moment. Trunks has just been killed, he does his long "KUSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" and his mouth is gaping open as he screams it. Somehow "SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!" doesn't work, for me, in this case. It doesn't sound like it would come out right. In this case, it almost seems tempting for it to be a "FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!" moment, but that's way too much for a show like Dragon Ball. Something a little more... Mature, perhaps, but not Dragon Ball.
