Oh man, it would be awesome if the opening credits had Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta fighting Super Saiyan 3 Broly. Then after the credits are over, it zooms out to reveal it's just Goten and Trunks playing a video game.VegettoEX wrote:I think the vast majority of us have mentioned him out of somewhat ironic yet hesitantly-afraid hilarity, rather than seriousness.

Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
Agreed. It's also because back in the old days, before we had a DVD release featuring Broli, there wasn't much informations about him, except that he's a Legendary Super Saiyan. That is due to the fact that he has a unique form and personality that apparently made him popular.Chuquita wrote:I think it's partly due to Brolli's reputation (popularity?) in the U.S. that he's mentioned in the thread so much. Some glimpses I've gotten into how he's seen in Japan (at least through YouTube and Niconico) is more of a meme/joke character.
When I was a kid, I had this Beckett DBZ magazine that shows a page of exclusive merchandises. There were pictures of Super Battle Collection Broli figures. As soon as I saw these, I thought, "Awesome dude! Is he gonna be in the TV series?!" But eventually I found out he was a movie character. I liked him a lot. When Movie 8 hit the stores, I snagged it as soon as I could.

Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
I really don't like Broly, I just see him as a hulk rip off, and I think he's vastly overrated, he got defeated by a weakened SSJ Goku with the power of four near death warriors, but that is a typical Toei Dbz movie I guess. If anyone were to get a SSJ power up I do think that Vegeta deserves it the most, but if he doesn't i wont be too fussed.
I really can't get an idea of what the plot will be, besides being between chapter 517-518. (Hopefully)

Broli's definitely not going to be in this movie, OK guys? I have faith that not even Toei would try and shove in an already dead villain for a fourth movie appearance, let alone giving him two transformations (yeah, you need SS2 to reach SS3). I don't really care either way if Vegeta gets SS3 or we see Gogeta again, but I hope that's not the special grab of the movie. Just as long as it's got an original plot, with an original villain, and no Gokuu wankfest.

Oh yeah, it'd be his fourth movie appearance. I guess that's because, in my mind, DBZ Movie #11's villain is just a B-movie sludge monster who doesn't even look like Broli and happens to be born from his DNA.Super Saiyan Prime wrote:Fourth.Piccolo Daimao wrote:Broli's definitely not going to be in this movie, OK guys? I just hope they don't try to sloppily explain shit that doesn't need explaining. That's my only hope for this movie. No poetry (cuz' you see...it rhymes!)
Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
Perhaps. But still, we get a thread to discuss opinions regarding the upcoming movie -- we get entire pages of discussion about Broli who I'm sure isn't going to be in. I'm just generally surprised by that.VegettoEX wrote:I think the vast majority of us have mentioned him out of somewhat ironic yet hesitantly-afraid hilarity, rather than seriousness.
Anyway, I sure as hell hope we're gonna see a Makaioshin. Makaioshins just have to be explained sooner or later! Even better if it's by Toriyama himself.

Yusuke Watanabe, the scriptwriter, confirmed that the movie would be set during the "lost decade".

He says "between Z and GT", so it's not that "lost decade" which we've been expecting?kei17 wrote:Yusuke Watanabe, the scriptwriter, confirmed that the movie would be set during the "lost decade".

Also he apparently goes by the anime ("Z", "GT", duh...) rather than the manga (and possibly DBO), and I don't like this. Is Toriyama fine with this, even after years spent on DBO which revolves around the manga and ignores GT?

Which can't be true if we're getting young Goten and Trunks.hleV wrote:He says "between Z and GT"kei17 wrote:Yusuke Watanabe, the scriptwriter, confirmed that the movie would be set during the "lost decade".

Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
I think he basically means it's going to be set in the 10 years between Boo's destruction and the 28th Tenkaichi Budoukai, like with DBZ Movie #13 and the JSAT special, which makes sense, judging by the characters' designs.

Yeah, Google translator doesn't really do this sentence justice, which based on the comments is what most people are going from. What Kei is specifically talking about is this sentence:
So for the record, he doesn't say anything about "Z" or its anime adaptation. And as far as the "GT" bit is concerned, he basically says it's not part of the original work to him.
Here's the translation, via me: "Strictly speaking, it's between the 'final story' and 'just before the (tournament) rounds' of the original manga.""厳密にいうと原作漫画の「最終話」と「その直前回」の間です。"

Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
Thanks for clearing that up, Hujio! The things seem to be better than I thought, after all.
Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
Figured something got lost in translation
I'm not a fan of picking statements apart word for word but that "'just before the (tournament) rounds' " got me thinking. I was actually sure it would take place closer to the ending of the Buu Saga, which again, makes more sense when considering how Goten and Trunks were featured in the first promo poster. Could this mean it's actually closer to the end of that 10 year gap?

In addition, according his tweet, he received the offer around the time when Munenori Sawa, a pro wrestler, did a big thing at Tenka-ichi Junior. He won the tournament last September, so they seem to have drawn up this project much earlier than we thought.

"直前回" refers to the previous episode, so he still hasn't stated the exact time yet.Michsi wrote:I'm not a fan of picking statements apart word for word but that "'just before the (tournament) rounds' " got me thinking. More like "between the last chapter of the original manga and the chapter right before that". 回 here basically means "chapter" or "episode"; it's not talking about tournament matches.Hujio wrote:Yeah, Google translator doesn't really do this sentence justice, which based on the comments is what most people are going from. Ah... It's always those little things that get me. So we're still talking about the same time frame though, right? I mean, he can't be speaking of chapters 518 and 519, because that doesn't make any sense.Herms wrote:More like "between the last chapter of the original manga and the chapter right before that". 回 here basically means "chapter" or "episode"; it's not talking about tournament matches.
