Well that's what it really means, but it's not seen that way. When a dog is put to sleep people say "it was destroyed", but they didn't blow it to bits they just suffocated it. "Destroyed" is a very general term, it could be used for non-living things as well, and that dis-attachment from life is what makes it more palatable.
Dogs aren't "suffocated" when it's said they are "destroyed". We give them an overdose of highly concentrated anaesthetic that basically shuts off "the switch" in their brain that keeps them alive.
Sorry for going off topic, but I don't want a misconception like that spread.
Are you sure? That's not what a professional dog breeder has told me. That "switch" explaination seems like something a vet would tell you when you're 8.
(PS - are there non-professional dog breeders?)

It's an overdose of anaethesia given through a syinge. Regardless of what you call this "switch", you're not suffocating the dog. That's just cruel.
As for "non-professional" dog breeders, as long as it's the breeder's job (ie: employment) to breed dogs, then he's a professional. The word almost always gets misused as a synonym for "highly-trained" or "specialized."

I've been a certified vet tech assistant specializing in overnight emergency at a major 24-hour animal hospital for almost three years now. You're going to tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about? Guess what? You know what the qualifications are to be able to label yourself a "professional dog breeder"? Get a male and female dog of the same breed together and have them have puppies, register them with the CKC(which is insanely easy to so) and sell them. A lot of so-called "professional dog breeders" are the bane of a vet's life because half the time they don't know their head from their rear. I don't care what that "breeder" told you. She's probably talking about other breeders because some of them do do that. Not vets.
I used the term "switch" because it's the easiest way to describe it in an understandable way. You weren't supposed to take it literally. Hence the quotations. Honestly!
I'm sorry EX, and also my apologies to Duo. I just had to defend my post.

Whoa, nelly! I didn't mean to kick the beehive. I was just
asking, geez.
But for the record, I never told you you "don't know what your talking about", I only asked "are you sure". I found little explanation in the "switch" thing... I like explanations, not metaphors, and I was just looking for "yes, I'm a certified vet" or "no, that's just what I've heard",
sorry for asking.
You didn't need to insult the "pro breeder" or bite my head off, I just wanted to know what this "switch" was (which you never explained, by-the-way).

To Jerseymilk, though I am grateful for your apology.
I would ask everyone to get back on topic...but, hell, I don't really care.

Conan the SSJ wrote:Hm, "Destroying" to me seems like a cop out. Shoot, it ranks up there with "perished" as being something a watered down show uses when they absolutely must say "kill", "die" murdered", but just go with one of those two. A lot of American made cartoons and butchered anime have gone with this concept, as did the Ocean version of DBZ.
Exactly. That's what came to mind when I read it and why I found it annoying (though glad to see it was changed to "murdered" in the graphic novel version).
Hell, I still remember Ocean's DBZ only using the words; "die", "death", kill", "murdered", etc., in the first 4 episodes and 2 later ones that seemed like basic flukes.
I felt their adaption of the series after Gotenks was introduced was more mature than before though they did "slip up" a bit in my eyes. But that's going off topic (plus it's been a while since I last saw an Ocean dubbed DBZ ep).

I had heard that (should get to read the 8th SK graphic novel soon). However I've also heard that in Viz one person/group deals with Shaman King and another deals with One Piece.

This talk of destroyed reminds me of the Gundam Wing editted dub. =/ Where any and all mentions of "die", "death", and "kill" were changed to something much tamer. They even toned down "kill time" O_o;;
Thank god those days are over.

I don't understand why we're talking about the various words for "kill" here. Viz never censored anything relating to death. Kill...murder...all that is there. All the images are untouched...
We're talking about a couple name changes and the dumbing down of Sexual humor and removal of cussing.
Then again, the latter two aren't really a big deal to me. I don't consider sex a very humorous topic and cussing isn't necessary. Of course, why do they have to do "Curse it!" of all replacements?! Seriously...if you're going to change it, make it something bad ass. Then again, maybe not, because I can't think of a single badass replacement for "Damnit!".
Whatever.

Oh, but there WAS visual changing.
a lot.
In Vol.40/24 they altered the guns of the two mad gunmen into wierd lazer things, and made "zapping" sfx to boot.
They also removed the gun wounds on the old couple and Bee.
So yhea.

Aw hell.
Now I'm confused for why they censor guns into lasers. Lasers do more damage than a bullet does.

It just boggles the mind, god forbid an old lady have a tiny bullet hole in her head,
yet Babidi can have everything above his upper jaw punched off so that we have his teeth and toung along with squirting blood left.

It's even weirder when you look at Yuugiou where they keep guns everywhere along with Kaiba's fun dialogue.
"Even if I blow your brains out, I'll simply wipe them from the controls and keep going!"
Something like that.

I don't see what the confusion is. "Ray guns" just aren't perceived to be nearly as violent as "real guns".

As far as I'm concerned, it's because little kids can't find laser guns. And that censoring is old. The oldest proof I found of using laser guns instead of real guns, while this isn't censorship, was in the Spider-Man cartoon, aired in the early 90's. They used laser guns like there was no tommorow.
I'm pretty sure though that these guys will regret this once someone decides to create a laser gun.

Ray guns have been used in Sci-Fi for practically a century now.
But they're the only kind of gun that can destroy a T-800! No other kind of gun will send a Terminator to the next dimension!
But what happens when that Terminator reaches that next dimemsion? There could be people living there!

I saw the new volume 4 and 5 and am confused a bit. It's not ok to show Bulma's boobs, but it's ok to show Goku's "little saiyan"?
