State of the Content Updates: July 2012 Edition!

Post by VegettoEX » Mon Jul 30, 2012 11:20 am

Hey, everyone!

I don't know if we will do this regularly, if I just happen to want to waste some time right now, if we'll never do it again, if it even makes sense to ever do again... don't know, don't care. But here's a list of content we have recently published / finished / gone live with (in addition to the regular news updates, podcast episodes... etc... sleep...)!

FEATURES:
  • All of the feature pages have been re-formatted to match the rest of the site.
  • My Dragon Box Isn't Perfect?!: All of the videos have finally been added to once again complete the page!
----------------------------------------------

ANIMATION STYLES GUIDE:
  • Section Main Page: Compilation of tons of research and documentation done over the years. In-progress section, with the main page detailing the overall structure, process, main differences, styles, etc.
  • Minoru Maeda: Main Animator Man #1
  • Tomekichi Takeuchi
MUSIC DATABASE:
  • Dragon Ball CD Sets: Finally re-introduced to the section. There were actually a couple random tracks that were translated and added to the giant set, some minor notes added for each set, etc.
INTENDED ENDINGS:
  • Nothing major -- just slightly rewritten with a more formal style and a bit of clarity updates.
THEME GUIDE:
EPISODE GUIDE:
  • Almost too much to list. All of DB's ending credits, all of the DB TV episodes, moving into the DBZ TV episodes, etc.
MANGA GUIDE:
  • All main pages from Kanzentai are up, Official Manga Spin-offs page was updated, and working on getting the remainder of the chapter pages ported over.
MOVIE GUIDE:
Probably forgetting a ton. Happy to add things in if the other dudes wanna remind me.

Actually, all of the opening theme pages are up, except for "WE GOTTA POWER". Everything you weren't sure of originally being on Kanzentai, were indeed ported over from there. Otherwise I think that's everything, for now.

What exactly do you mean? There are comparison shots in the guide, although I can't speak to how "full on" they are.

Thanks for the help, but I think I'm good with the six I did. I wanted varying types of character models, and Gohan really falls in with Goku pretty well.

Really awesome work on the Animation styles guide. I loved all the side-by-side comparisons - really makes you appreciate the differences in quality and style. I'm very much enjoying reading through all the guides, too!

One minor thing I noticed, though, was on the Filler Plotholes & Contradictions page, under Garlic Jr., you state that "Goku also has his Nyoi-Bō in this movie, which is impossible, because he left that atop Karin Tower." However, I'm pretty sure the last time that we see the Nyoi-Bō (in the manga, at least) is actually on Goku's back when he first appears at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai in the turban. I know that there are some shots in the anime much later on where we see the Nyoi-Bō connected to Karin Tower (I guess Goku put it back...?), but in general I was always under the impression that Goku kept it. Or am I forgetting something major here? =P

One major example of this is Masayuki Uchiyama, whose animation got noticeably worse throughout Dragon Ball Z as many of his more talented key animators were promoted.
Now that I have the time, I'd like to try and go through and be a picky bastard. I think this sentence sort of implies that Uchiyama's animation, personally, became worse due to the loss of key animators. It makes more sense to throw in a 'team' or simply refer to Last House by name.

I'm glad to see that you're working on porting the chapter pages from Kanzentai. It's like Akira Toriyama's version of the episodes' title cards, and it's always good to have access to the author's versions of things (even though I already have them somehow, since I have all tankobon and I'm collecting Kanzenban as they are released... but somehow, I never really pay much attention to it when I'm reading the manga, I'm too eager to continue reading, so it's like I discover them for the first time sometimes!)

You guys have done such a wonderful job so far, and it keeps going even further, thanks! 8)

First off, I am glad the animation guide is out. I read through the whole thing and really enjoyed it. It's everything I want to say about it.

And yes, Goku brought his Nyoi-Bo back when he returned at the tournament.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Whoops, saw this in Maeda's article. It sort of implies that he was the sole animation supervisor:
not only as its animation supervisor

I know it's not July anymore, but I updated the list with some more stuffage. Most significantly, the Features section has been overhauled.
