I forgot to mention this but....It would be awesome to see the return of Mirai Trunks in this timeline. There are so many interactions he can have, meeting the older and more conformed Gohan, his brattier younger self, the best friend he never had, Goten, his now changed father, his sister (if she is born yet), and Gokuu, who was previously thought to be dead.

Also he knock some sense into Trunks, which could lead to him being less "fresh" during the epilogue (and if you want to, GT)

Having him in the plot would beyond cool, and its not like he is a forgotten character or anything, thanks to the video games, like RB2 and Sparking Neo, which had him on the front cover.

Actually that would be interesting. I would also like to hear Trunks talk about what may be going on in his timeline. Did he become a hero? Did he haft to face unknown and tougher foes than the androids? that would be nice.

Tiny bit 'o kinda-news; ANN says millions of people have viewed the teaser on YouTube after a company called Cinema Today posted it there: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... lion-times
I thought this part was pretty neat:
Over half of the accesses came from overseas, particularly from Brazil, Mexico, the United States, Chile, France, and other countries. The video garnered over 3,700 comments in less than a week. Three quarters of hits for the film's official website came from overseas, notably from (in descending order) the United States, Brazil, Mexico, France, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
Even though it's not movie-plot-related, I still think that's cool to see all those different countries listed.

So, assuming the title of the movie really is Dragon Ball Z: Saikyō, Shidō ... what would the English title be like?

Yeah, but like everything else in Japanese instead of being right they're left.

Swell news, I say. I wonder if this will put pressure on Toei to release something else soon or keep a lid on the pot until next year arrives.

I can't imagine waiting until January before we get another news update. That would be torturous. It's frustrating enough for me to wait this long. I realize other Toei properties--to be even more vague, other franchises in general--do this sort of thing when it comes to their movies too, but this is Dragon Ball and that makes it more exciting a prospect to me than if it were a series I only casually followed. I mean, if they do make us wait that long, it can't be helped; such is life; but man do I want a legit news update soon that actually tells me a little bit more about what the movie's about.

As far as we know, "Saikyō, Shidō." ( 最強、始動。) is just a catchphrase they're using to promote the movie. If it were the actual title, it would most likely appear right under the Dragon Ball Z logo, not above it with all the brief one-liners. Even in the trailer it doesn't appear with the series logo, it follows the movie's premiere date at the very end.
JeffJarrett wrote:Dragon Ball Z: The Best, Begins (source)
This translation of "Saikyō, Shidō." has annoyed me ever since the English site launched. I'll buy translating shidō as "begins", but saikyō doesn't really mean "the best", it means "the strongest". I guess you could infer that being the strongest makes you the best, but I don't know... seems like a little bit of stretch. However, if they added the furigana like ベスト (besuto), then I'd buy it more. They've done weird stuff like that before, like most recently for the title of Dragon Ball Kai episode 82. You'd think they'd just write "the best" as 最良 (sairyō) or 最上 (saijō), but who really knows.

Yeah, they exist. In fact, almost all the punctuation you're used to is used in Japanese, such as periods, quotations, exclamation points, question marks, etc. However, I'm not sure what NeoKING means by saying "like everything else in Japanese instead of being right they're left". No other Japanese punctuations are written in reverse from how native English speakers are used to seeing them, as far as I can remember. Traditional Japanese is written top to bottom, right to left. But with the influence of Western writing styles, and the internet, a lot of Japanese text these days is starting to be written from left to right, top to bottom.

I'd assume "The best, begins" is trying to preserve the alliteration of "saikyou, shidou". It's not really that much of a stretch, especially if they're more concerned with providing a snappy tag line than in translating the original tag line as literally as possible. I don't think they necessarily succeeded in that regard, though.

Don't mind that, it's just a sarcastic remark. Not meant to be taken seriously.

I won't count on it since these type of films never do well that well in the US market. The chances of this getting a big theatrical release are very unlikely.

I'm actually hoping for a small theatrical release which is more likely to happen than a major release that you'll see for a big budget popular film. Hey, what can I say? I'm hopeful.

Funi did one recently for FMA's TSSoM. In the US, while most of the theaters were running the dubbed version, they had a couple of spots that were running both dub and sub showings. Unluckily for me, there wasn't a theater anywhere close to me that had it to begin with, but I'd still like to think they'd do the same for their biggest earner though, especially now that it's getting a new, full-length film...

Anime and foreign films never been that popular in the US market unless they are critical acclaim. Funi did release Evangelion 1.0 at some screenings in 2009 and they could do the same. I still don't think this will ever get some type of release in theaters and will likely get a direct to video release.

4) Fighting in space for extend periods.

Akira Toriyama saying at the end credits that the movie is cannon to the manga.
If those things happen then I would turn off the movie. Like how DBZ characters are and I'm glad that they are not super mega strong as fans like you wank them out to be. It seems like you are the only one that cares about this type of stuff.

Pokémon and Digimon managed theatrical releases back in the day, and Dragon Ball has had a theatrical release previously in the form of the live action Dragonball Evolution, so I reckon that this film will probably have some kind of theatrical release. Perhaps not a proper wide release, but certainly something of some kind. Especially with both the demographics of the older fans and the Kai kids to cater to.

I think most studios will think that no one would go see the movie other then fans and don't want to waste money on distributing a film for a major release. Screening at a anime con is more likely since it seems like anime films have been known to screen there. I don't think the DBZ fan base is big enough in the US compare to Japan to have the film be released commercially.

I imagine DBZ's fanbase is at least as big as FMA's here in the states, especially when you consider the Kai generation of fans, the Z generation of fans, and the possibly nostalgic, casual fans. As I've already said in this topic, Funimation did a limited screening of The Sacred Star of Milos earlier this year. It ran for a varying amount of time at a few select theaters across the country (from 1 day to a couple weeks), mainly showing the dubbed version, though a couple of places were running the subbed version too. So, I imagine that "DBZ 2013" could get a limited screening. May not be likely, but it is still a possibility at least...

Isn't that a big reason why this movie could get some kind of release? Besides Pokemon, DBZ might be the biggest Japanese property in the States because just like it it attracted more casual viewers.

FMA is not that big, not even close.
