Would DBGT been more of a hit if Toriyama was more involved?
Would this had helped the show at all?
Or was GT already a lost cause?
For me, it seems the series as a whole was at it's peak and kinda slowing down.
GT was and still is forever a mess.

Possibly since most people didn't like that GT had a poor story. I think Toriyama help writing the story would have been more fresh out better. GT had terrible plot inconsistencies and I would imagine that AT is a better writer then the people who help write the episodes of GT.

Yeah, it kind of depends on what you mean. Would GT be the same, but with Toriyama credited as the creator? If so, I feel like some people might be kinder to it, but it wouldn't solve the problems for me. But I do think if Toriyama had been more involved it may have turned out differently, probably for the better. There's no way of knowing for sure.

The chances are if he did write GT then there will be no Bebi or Super 17 since both ideas are based off of ideas from Toei since Tsufuru-jin don't exist in the manga and Hell in GT is different then Hell in the manga.

Wasn't Toriyama the one who came up with the idea for the Tsfruian's?
Re: Would DBGT been more of a hit if Toriyama was more invol
Wait, do you mean if Toriyama had more influence in the story, or if his name was tacked on? If you mean more influence in story, It'd probably be a better show (who knows, we haven't seen that) and people'd appreciate it more. If his name was tacked on, it'd be the same reaction. Just because it has the original creator involved, doesn't mean it's good. Just look at the Star Wars prequels.
Re: Would DBGT been more of a hit if Toriyama was more invol
The typical fans wouldn't be any different. They'd still hate and say bad things about it, and that "it never happened". If DBGT was as good or better than DB and DBZ for the majority, no one would say or argue that it's "non-canon", regardless of Toriyama's involvement.

Most definitely, well at least to me..

This picture is more interesting than the whole series..

I dunno if it'd have been a hit or not, but I feel like the M2 arc would've been full of lots of twists and turns, similar to the Namek saga. Toriyama was an ace when it came to writing inter-planetary adventure.

Funny how Trunks have guns when he can easily use ki blast instead. I guess AT thought it looked cool? Everything had guns in pictures back in the 90's.

I would. Something's canonicity has nothing to do with whether I like it or not.Dorexx wrote:If DBGT was as good or better than DB and DBZ for the majority, no one would say or argue that it's "non-canon"

Yeah, for instance my favorite movie is DB Movie 2, which is a flat-out alternate version of things that doesn't fit the main series.Bussani wrote:I would. Re: Would DBGT been more of a hit if Toriyama was more invol
I think GT would have been more of a hit if Toriyama had written the story himself, that's for sure. But then, it wouldn't have been GT but a very different continuation of the franchise.
But I'm not sure it would have been as great as the story he actually wrote. On the contrary of some fans, I don't feel the Majin Boo saga was any weaker than the other sagas, to me the franchise stayed strong until the very end.
However, I agree with Toriyama when he says that it's time to stop because he doesn't feel like going on (on this end message of the manga). I think the quality would have dropped to a certain degree because when the creator himself says "this should be the end right now", he wouldn't have had that "magic" he's shown for years. Lack of motivation and creation are notions that don't fit well together, when you don't care anymore about what you create and would like to do something else instead, you end up creating a mess.
I do think that his lack of involvement was a huge downside on GT, since the anime came up with what they wanted most of the time, which turned out to be quite random.
If I'm not mistaken, the Super Saiyan 4 (an important concept!) was not even designed by Toriyama, so not having the author's influence and designs on important parts of the story was probably a bad move. The "magic" was not there anymore, therefore the audience was gone too.

Nope, the Boo arc was a sign that Toriyama was just getting fed up with the series (it'd arguably gone on too long by that point, with farfetched plot device after farfetched plot device to up the scale of the characters' powers), so if he’d somehow continued on into GT, it’d be just as bad, if not worse, than what it turned out to be. One of the main reasons that people didn’t like GT isn’t because Toriyama wasn’t writing it (I mean, many fans like a good deal of the films and some of the anime filler, like the Anoyoichi Budoukai arc). It’s because it was just a badly executed idea.

That's correct, it was designed by Nakatsuru.Cold Skin wrote:If I'm not mistaken, the Super Saiyan 4 (an important concept!) was not even designed by Toriyama

It's funny you should say that, since I love the design of Super Saiyan 4. Putting GT's flaws aside, it came up with a lot of things that I really like. It's definitely the execution and presentation where it had problems for me.Cold Skin wrote:If I'm not mistaken, the Super Saiyan 4 (an important concept!) was not even designed by Toriyama, so not having the author's influence and designs on important parts of the story was probably a bad move. I actually feel that it wouldn't be better if Toriyama got involved.
He had stated that he wanted to leave the series alone, and even though i loved the last volumes of the Manga, look at them.
They are flawed! What if Toryiama had continued to do DragonBall. Wouldn't the series just worse? He was tired of doing DragonBall, and i feel that he wouldn't be into it, at least not directly after doing the entire Manga.

Where did you hear that from? I think he just design them, I don't think he had any part of any writing for the DBZ anime.ringworm128 wrote:Wasn't Toriyama the one who came up with the idea for the Tsfruian's?
