DBZ "frame rate"
DBZ "frame rate"
I only used frame rate because I don't know the reall word. How many pictures per second did Toriyama use? I ask this because when goku was going to namek and he was spinning on the rope upside down(sorry no episode #) it looked really complex.

Toriyama did not animate the series but i'm guessing that it was somehwere on average between 23-29 frames a second depending on what was happening. That's the standered for a weekley airing cartoon. I'm not sure though.
What you could do is pop on a DVD and pause an episode frame by frame and count how many frames were used in that second.
Yeah 12 frames does seem to be exact. What I meant when I said 23-29 is that when you still frame it, Pressing the button, lets say 24 times is 1 second but the pictures moves every '2' frames on standered. I think I'm making sense here.

Well if Bill Gates invented the mouse...El_Diablo wrote:I don't know how you could think one man could animate an entire series.

It's 12 frames per seconds for most weekly anime (excluding more complex sequences). Keep in mind that 24 FPS is "normal", and used for higher budget works, as well as live-action.DBZ MAN wrote:i'm guessing that it was somehwere on average between 23-29 frames a second depending on what was happening. Right-o. A lot is different "these days" (when speaking of higher-quality TV series, OVAs, etc. and digital animation), but the typical process of how it was done way back when is that everything was animated at 12 fps, and then "scanned in" (or what have you) at 23.976 (~24) fps, which is standard NTSC-Film (this is its natural "progressive" frame rate). It is then telecined up to 29.970 (~30) fps for playback on televisions (this is what "interlacing" is).Domon wrote:It's 12 frames per seconds for most weekly anime (excluding more complex sequences). But there's all sorts of variables that come into play. Unless you're DBZ. In which case it's absolutely 12 fps -> 23.976 fps -> 29.970 fps

VegettoEX=Holy crap I had no idea you were that smart! (I mean I knew you were good and all but wow!) Now I realize I have nothing real to add to this topic so I guess I'm done...VegettoEX wrote:Right-o. I think some people are not knowledged at the fact that Toriyama drew the manga, and Toei animation made the anime.Saiya-jin wrote:thanks I'll try that. I didn't know that Mr. Toriyama didn't animate it!
I'm not clever on the subject of framerates, it's always something I haven't payed attention to, but I've always thought the animation in Dragonball Z is very good for the time is what made in. But even watching it now, I don't get the feeling that I'm watching this old 80's show, because I was born in the 80's and I am used to all this old style of cartoons, I used to watch crap like Heman, and even nowadays you see stuff like Dextor's Laboratory, I mean, look at the bad animation there? For a new age cartoon they could do a much better job. I don't watch it anyway.

I'd have to assume that the digital animation was done at a native film frame rate (23.976 fps).TheMajinRedComet wrote:What was the fps on the newer movies, like 12&13?
