Why Mr. Satan
Why do they call Mr. Satan that name for? He is like the nicest guy in all of dragonball z(other than goku of course). I just think that he should get a nice name for a nice guy
There is some discussion about this on another topic :

It says this is kind of about religions from other countries being "cool" I guess. This is just my opinion.

I've heard from some sources (mainly unofficial) that his character is based off of Freddie Mercury as a tribute from Mr. Toriyama (who has been said to be a huge Queen fan). But it probably doesn't lead in to any clues for his name unless Mr. Mercury was associated with Satan in any way...The Lecherous Muten Roshi wrote:He's basically a spoof of a pro wrestler. Just remember, everytime something bad is happening to you. Something even worse is happening to someone else.
Why does everyone associate him with pro-wrestlers? >_> We clearly see him NEVER doing anything related to wrestling. He's a MARTIAL ARTS champion. I'd say I'm gonna go with it's to sound intimidating when he's really just a normal human with no special talent. >_>The Lecherous Muten Roshi wrote:He's basically a spoof of a pro wrestler. You have the name Satan, yet he really can't do anything the Z-Senshi can, which makes him incredibly weak. It's kind of a joke, if you think about it.

Looking at him, you can see he is quite obviously a caricature of an American pro-wrestler. The afro, the hairy chest, the handlebar moustache - all stereotypical American features. He could be just an "American martial artist" if he acted like Chuck Norris, or even Steven Sagal, but he acts like a pro wrestler: staging events to make himself look good, the loud proud character, claiming he'll defeat opponents with ease (showing off while doing so). All obvious pro-wrestler traits.Tsukento wrote:Why does everyone associate him with pro-wrestlers? >_> We clearly see him NEVER doing anything related to wrestling. He's a MARTIAL ARTS champion. Yeah. Just because he isn't actually a pro-wrestler, it doesn't mean he isn't a spoof of one. The above post pretty much explains where you can make the connection.desirecampbell wrote:Looking at him, you can see he is quite obviously a caricature of an American pro-wrestler. I've always assumed Mr. Satan was loosley based on Hulk Hogan (with a little Randy Savage mixed in). Hogan was/is very popular in Japan. Satan - Hogan just seemed to click to me.
The parallels are there with Satan being the world's martial arts champion = Hogan being the wrestling world champion, his has a finishing move, carries a championship belt, and the fans "mark" out for him and give him "pop" when he is in the ring.
Just my skewed view. Cheers!!

It is believed Mr. Satan is a parody of this guy:

His name is John T. Keehan a.k.a Count Dante. (Count Dante - Mr. Satan perhaps)
He was an American martial artist back in the 60's and 70's. He also appeared in martial arts ads in comics.

He's just a knock-off of any typical Japanese-style wrestler. Add afro.

!(okay, that was stupid)

Re: Why Mr. Satan
That's a popular English-dub name for him. Is it coincidence that Blue Water used it too?DB_Fan wrote:Actually, Funimation calls him H e r c u l eSaiya-jin wrote:I think a better question would be "Why does FUNimation call him Mr. SatanSSJ5 Piccohan wrote:Why do they call Mr. Satan that name for?
