Honest opinions on a Viz Kanzenban release

Post by the1payday » Thu Feb 16, 2006 8:13 pm

I know that Viz has not made any announcements regarding this since DBZ still has two Graphic Novels to go before it's over but...what are some opinions on a possible American Kanzenban release?

As long as they remian uncensored and unaltered (Mr. Satan, Majin, etc.) I'd love to purchase a Kanzenban english release.

Same here. I won't spend money on it if it's been edited, though

:( Yeah, I hate Viz's editing. Bulma's wearing a bra... :( Damn you, Viz! :x
I really, really need to get back into the habit of posting.

I would buy it for the colored chapters and the new covers alone.

If it was totally uncensored and the dialogue of Vol. 15 onward a bit revised, that would be even better, but would not alter my purchasing choice one way or the other.

Honestly, though, unless the Manga has really been profitable for them, I don't see it happening.

And with the Shopro merger and all...the idea of censorship removal is sketchy, but possible?

It's plausible if the manga was successful. This makes an excuse to keep selling a product that's finished its run. I'd gladly purchase the last volume (for the alternate ending).

I don't know how it's been for on the Viz side, but I know that the merger had a few effects on that which was on the Shopro side. I remember that in the second ep of Zatch Bell, the back robber's shotgun became an even more deadlier looking futuristic weapon. Some months later on the Night of the Naruto premiere, an old guy is not only smoking a cigar, but has a regular pistol pointed to his head.

That makes sense just like censoring tree thoughts.

I think that a lot of the censors from the first season were done so they could get through them faster. I also need to look at GN #2 again to see if that was in the manga or not.

You don't have to take my word, but it was. However, I believe it was angled differently.

Can someone scan a pic of this? This sounds more like a proofreading snafu than it does out and out censorship.

I think he was referring to the anime censoring of the tree. Shortly after Gohan taken to the wild by Piccolo, Piccolo gave him some apples while he was sleeping. Gohan wakes up and there's a thought cloud with an apple tree in it. FUNi "digitally painted" it out.

2nd dumbest edit ever...

...yes, the first is editing out Gohan's tears when Raditz grabbed him.

Did they confirm that they did it intentionally? Still sounds like the visual-media equivalent of a proofreading snafu.

If I was them, I'd deny that it ever happened. :P
